I know. I just sent him an invite to boot. but to be honest I don't think he'll join but it would be so cool if he did. in any event regarding staff I'm not too sure how to go about picking for that job. a vote or something maybe

First you look at who is active, reliable, and will do the job. Look to see who is most supportive in the guild and the like. At the time being you don't have that many people or threads to watch over so you should be able to manage on your own for a bit.

True. I normaly don't start looking for staff until I have 20+ members on a forum. (I admin about 5 of my own forum boards)
