Uumi'kaji yawned as he moved through the Kusini grasses toward his and Sye's den. He was supposed to spend as much time as he could with his children, he was having a hard time committing to it. But he'd promised Sye he would be a better father this time around. He really wanted to, too.

Sirati's small form rolled through the dry grass, reveling in the feel on her fur. And yet . . . she was bored. Her mind and heart craved adventure, or at least something to do. Her small ears caught the sound of something moving through the tall grass nearby, and peeking her small head over the tops of the grass, she noticed her father.
With a grin, Sira scrambled to her paws, and raced after her father, before landing in step next to him.
"Hello Dad!" she said with enthusiasm, hoping that he would be in a good mood.

Uumi gave a very small start and looked down at his side. Oh, one of them had found him before he could find them. He gave little Sirati an awkward smile, he was still getting used to smiling all of the time. He wasn't sure what pleased him so much about Sirati's colors, but something did.
"Hello, aren't you with any of your sisters or your brother?" He asked, slowing his pace so she could easily keep up. Oh he wished he knew what he was supposed to ask her, or if maybe he should just tell her to go away in his nervousness of being a 'good father'. But he couldn't, he'd promised Sye he'd try!

Sirati smiled kindly up at her father, hoping to put him more at ease. He always seemed rather nervous around her or her siblings. Usually, though, if it was just her, he seemed to do better. Sirati had no idea why, but she guessed that perhaps her father favored her for some reason. She loved that fact, and she planned to keep it that way.
She trotted along beside Uumi, pleased that he had slowed down so she didn't have to run. It was a small courtesy but Sirati and her tender paws appreciated it. At his question, she rolled her eyes, a typically youthful response.
"No. They're probably off playing somewhere, but I came her to find you, and here you are! What are you up to, Dad?" she asked, practically bouncing with enthusiasm. She was rarely this excitable and only tended to act this way around just her father or perhaps her sisters.

Uumi smiled to himself at her answer and felt his heart swell with a bit of fatherly pride. Something so rare he couldn't remember the last moment he felt so pleased with himself! Most of the time his cubs avoided him (while he avoided them) and none tried to find them. Already he was doing better with litter three!
"Oh I was looking for you." He said and grinned at her, leaning down and lightly nipping at the top of her head. Okay so he was looking for any of the children, but he wasn't about to tell Sirati that. "I was wondering if you would like to hang around with your old man for the day?" His tail flicked. Wow. He sounded like a fool in his own ears.

Sirati grinned happily, and playfully swatted a paw in his direction at the n** on her head, all the while rejoicing. Out of all her brother and sisters, her father had chosen her. Like any child in a large family, she reveled in the singled out attention, and practically danced in step next to him.
"Spend the day with you? Definitely! That sounds like fun," she said with a giggle. At any other time, she would have been disgusted by her girly behavior, but around her dad, she could be like this. When around her mother, she would be serious, like her. But she could be daddy's little girl around Uumi. Sira lifted her muzzle up smugly, and pleased as punch, strutted along with her father, hoping that some of her siblings might be nearby to see them.

He just watched her and chuckled to himself. He was leading her toward where the hills and the river met, it was one of his favorite spots to just sit and think. He realized this might not be all that fun for a cub though. His eyes floated upwards to the sky. Ah! Well it was cloudy today... if Sirati got too bored or they ran out of things to say (which was probably a definite for Uumi) he could suggest cloud viewing. He never really liked picking out shapes before.. just staring at the masses was calming.
"We'll go to my favorite spot." He said and smiled down at her, tail flicking. Oh already he wanted to just nap! Being a good father was hard work! "So what have you been up to these last few days Sirati?" He was trying to keep conversation going because his breathing was becoming a little funny; he was walking too much. His breathing problems had been since birth, it was nothing new for him but his new litter of children didn't yet know of his breathing troubles. And it was awkward for him!

Sirati was an observant young cub, and as she strolled along with her father, she couldn't help but notice that his breathing sounded a bit off, almost as if he had run a long distance, or had been playing a lot. Sira, was curious, but didn't mention it, as perhaps he just wasn't feeling good, and she didn't want to ruin the moment. So, rather than forcing him to talk, Sirati began a pleasant chatter, that would hopefully give Uumi some time to breath normally.
"Ooh, your favorite spot? That's sounds awesome! I get to go see your favorite spot, and I didn't even know you had one. What have I been up to? Oh, nothing really. Playing with Sith and the others, talking with Mama, exploring . . . Hey! Did you know that there is a rock nearby that has a paw print in it? It looks like some big and heavy lion just stepped on the rock and left a big print in it! It's really cool . . ."
She continued on in that vain for awhile, hoping that she wasn't getting annoying.

Uumi's ears flicked back but after a moment he smiled. He'd never listen to a cub (especially his) speak to their full potential... as in he'd never let them get more than a few words out. It was cute, even if it was a smidge annoying.
"A rock with a paw print huh?" He said slowly, brows raising as he looked to his daughter. That didn't sound too amazing... unless she meant a really big lion! "Will you show me it later Sira?" He smiled down at her, somewhat interested in the rock but only to see if it was really as interesting as she thought. A cub and an adult had very different ideas of 'interesting'.
He swallowed and his breathing calmed and went back to it's sickly non-patterned heaving. It ping-ponged, mostly because he was nervous. He wanted to make sure he was doing everything 'right'. Sye would probably laugh at him at this point.

Sirati got the overwhelming feeling that her father was nervous about something, but she couldn't figure out what. Surely it wasn't talking to her! Sira considered herself easy to talk to, plus her father was so much stronger and more amazing. Sira shrugged it off, and padded along on her scarlet dipped paws next to him, her muzzle turning up into a bright smile.
"Sure, Da, I'll show you the rock later, if you really want to see it. It's not that important, I just thought it was really interesting," she added, feeling slightly foolish as she realized how childish it was. Surely her father didn't care about a rock. There were so many more important things for her father to think about. Sira lifted her chin even higher, preening under his attention, happy to be walking next to him. She wanted to impress him, and show him that she was like her mother, strong and beautiful.

"No, I'd like to see it." He insisted, smiling. "In a little while." He added, ears picking up the fast flow of water crashing past the rocks. He wondered if he actually should be bringing his daughter here... it was a little dangerous. A lot dangerous. He'd almost drowned in this same river now that he thought about it...
"I don't want you going too close to the water." He said firmly, giving her a stern look. The land started sloping upwards and suddenly the river was in view. It was beautiful, it was powerful. Yet it was still calming and he enjoyed when it mirrored the sky's color, just like his Syeira's eyes. He wondered if she knew that is why he was always here... at the river. Or staring at the sky. If he was braver he would make her let him stare into her eyes all day... but no, he was a weak lion. He frowned slightly and sighed, shaking his head and trying to get rid of the thoughts. Another time he could mope, he had to stay cheerful with a little one about.
"I fell in this river once, a long time ago." He told her, trying to carry on conversation. "I got very sick from it, your mother was the one to take care of me." He didn't add that she was probably the only lion in this land that would put up taking care of him. That and she felt guilty for him coming to the Kusini lands at all. He smiled sadly again, then let his gaze sway to the sky. They'd had such... a horrible beginning. He really did want to make things always good with Sye... no more arguing... but that just wouldn't happen with them. "So you should stay away from the edge, never swim in this water alright Sirati?" He looked to her, serious again. "It's just my favorite spot to come and watch."

Sirati listened soberly to her father's words, and nodded sagely.
"I promise, Dad, I won't go near the water . . ." She was sorely tempted to, though. The water was mesmerizing as it went by so quickly, rushing and flowing along. She wanted to get closer to the edge, but didn't dare disobey her father's wishes, so she sat back on her haunches, and sat up straight and tall, her blue eyes taking in the beautiful sight.
It truly was a wonderful sight, but Sirati was also a young cub, and like most young beings, she began to get bored. She took a swift glance over at her father, but he seemed to be still mesmerized by the sight. With all of the progress she had made with her father so far, Sira didn't want to ruin it by running off, so she stilled her mind, and frowning in concentration, attempted to copy her father's behavior.

He jerked his head away and shook himself odd odd thoughts, sometimes it was easy to get lost among his own mind when he was near this river. He watched his daughter for a few long moments and smiled softly.
"Would you like to go show me now?" He asked, standing and stretching his lanky body. He didn't realize cubs got bored easily, he had been fairly easy to please as a cub. In some ways, any how. He often liked being alone and watching the sky or the pridelands from pride rock. He didn't mind watching his siblings play... usually he would pick on them. He'd been such a little turd.

Like father, like daughter. After allowing her mind to relax, Sirati found that she was enjoying watching the river and the sky. It was very . . . hypnotic in a way. She heard him speak and felt him shift, and looked over, snapping back to attention.
"Show you what? . . . . Oh! The rock. Actually, it's no big deal. This place is much more fascinating. Look at how fast the water moves, Dad!" She turned her attention back to the swiftly moving river, and bounded to her feet. "I'm gonna get a closer look," she cried, happily, and forgetting her promise to her father, she dashed over to the water's edge. The color of the water was the same as her bright eyes, as she watched with rapt fascination.
She turned back to glance at her father, a happy expression grazing her muzzle. "Daddy, come here and get a closer look!"

He was quite surprised she didn't want to see the rock any longer and was quite enjoying her time here! Well all the better for him, right?
"Wait!" He yelped, though it caught in his throat in the sudden panic that seized at his throat and he started to cough. He stumbled forward, toward her. Why was she running so close to the water! He'd told her only moments ago not to! His eyes were wide and he looked a little crazed, especially while the coughing was going on. "Sirati!" He managed to wheeze out.
Sye was going to kill him, slaughter him!
"Sirati get away from there!" He finally breathed, but it was pointless because he was beside her, one paw slightly in front of his little girl as he tried to take deep, calming breaths.
Didn't she listen to his story before? If she was to fall in she was dead for sure!
