New Character Announced! It's Lucas!

That's right,
it took a long time,
but the Dojo has finally released new info
on an actual, playable character!

Meet Lucas, a cute little guy from an Earth Bound game

The last screenshot up there looks like he should be saying

I can't wait until more info on this character is released!
I want to learn about his special moves and Final Smash!
Also - does anyone find it strange that a nearly unknown Earth Bound character
was announced before even Ness?

Lucas is probably replacing Ness. He was supposed to take his place in melee, but Mother 3 was pushed back, so they threw Ness back in.

Ness and Lucas are so different in the Earthbound series that I'm almost certain that Ness will return. The best way to compare them is by saying that Ness is the offense-magic based Black Mage and Lucas is the defensive-magic based White Mage.

Plus, I heart using PK Thunder to rocket into my opponent! It's fun! Ness has to return! >_<

Anywho, I started playing Mother 3 recently, so as a Ness user, I approve of Lucas replacing Ness if in fact they have the same moves.


We'll know if Ness is making the cut once they do Lucas' attacks update, I suppose ( I think this applies to the other copy characters as well )

Lucas is the main character from [Earthbound] 3.

As for Lucas and Ness having the same moves, they don't. Here is Lucas' move list from Mother 3:

He does, though, have PK Flash... which is, in my opinion, the worst move in the game. It's slow and inconsistent. It takes forever to get off and even if you do manage to pull it back down to your opponent, if you're hit Flash will no longer register.
There is the shield, also.... Which I seriously hope they don't bring back either since it's virtually useless. Only being able to block energy projectiles like Samus' Blaster or Fox's Lasers makes it a very situational. The slot could certainly be better filled by something else.

Hell, if it were slowish, I wouldn't mind if Lucas had a self-healing move... something like Yoshimitsu's Meditation move in Soul Calibur/Tekken.

I'm also certain he'll have PK Love, since it is his strongest move in Mother 3. Not sure how it'll work, though, since it just causes the screen to flash. >_<

hmm, no pk thunder move means he'll have a different jump, but one of the screens shows something that looks like the Ness' fair.

I was about to disregard that as being a Wikipedia entry... until I noticed that it is then sourced out to Nintendo Japan's website...

I still don't feel, though, that they'll remove Ness. He's too different from Lucas, and to unique in the scheme of characters, to be removed. Especially when there is plenty more space in a DVD than in a Gamecube disc. I easily expect 40 playable characters in this game.

I wouldn't say that... the website says Lucas is timid (and from what i've played from Mother 3, this looks to be true)

after playing earthbound, I can tell you that Ness isn't timid.

also, I dont know if Lucas uses toys as weapons yet... i need to get farther into Mother 3.
