Kainda knew her time was near once more. And instead of feeling like cowering in her den until she was no longer in heat, this time she felt excited knowing that in a few days she would be again… It was like destiny had marked her, like a huge chance was coming and she had to try to take it. She felt dangerous almost, like she could wreck havoc, and she knew that had she been where she was born, where there were many wolves, she would have been. Her father had had to kill a rival and had badly wounded a few others to win her mother. Violence had been followed by passion that had been followed by love, all those seasons ago. Such was the way of things.

She felt good. As she ran along, settling into a steady lope that would eat up the miles and that favoured her long legs, she was well aware of many things. She was Kainda, the Hunter’s Daughter. She was a Dawnwalker - she was Clan. Her bonded was Muroki. She was young and healthy. She was oh so female. She could bring death to her prey and could run away swift before hers. She could give birth to a new generation, young and vulnerable but new and vital. She felt powerful, she felt proud, and she felt lust for life.

She ate well, feasting after a good kill (her new found energy and confidence helped a lot) and plotted. She didn’t want a romance, for Kainda was still young and hated too many restrictions, but she wanted the pups. They would be all the love she needed, she could raise them and bring them up to be strong wolves. Her pride, and assets to her Clan. Unfortunately her generation had all left her homelands and besides, it was too far away.

Besides, she had her mission for the clan. She had to keep moving, stay on her path. Rally lions and other creatures to their Cause. Win back the Temple. She couldn’t let down her friends and her bonded, Muroki.

Still…

She imagined a few males trailing her, trying to win her favour, fighting for her…she imaged small warm bodies snuggled within the curve of her body as she lay in a den, the tug-n** of small mouths… Kainda grinned and wagged her tail with fierce joy at the images. So she kept on the move, looking for hints of her own kind as well as lions for the Clan, for she wished to lead a merry chase of life and death. Or better yet, find a lone male to seduce, since with her mission she couldn't afford possible injuries from any over-angry suitors.

Such was the way of things.

A yawn split the male's maw.

Perhaps she was in luck. A dusty-brown colored male was walking along the grass, his head low as he sniffed the ground, nose hovering over it. He'd sniffed some stuff today; a hare, a gazelle, an antepole, but out of those, only one had really been helpful. The hare had made for a nice meal for the day, and the lanky creature was just looking to see if he found anything interesting, rather than food.

Maybe he'd find a fruit. Maned wolves actually liked fruit, though he didn't quite know why. No, he didn't know they were originated not from africa, but somewhere else, and there the maned wolves ate fruit-- rathe roften, too. He'd ate small game since he was old enough to hunt, but whenever he found a good fruit in this insane place known as africa to the two-legs, he'd gladly ate it.

But now a new scent found its way to him. That of wolf. Another wolf, a female wolf. And what an interesting smell, too. It was somehow.. different. However, he wondered if she was nearby, and threw his head back and howled, with a yip mixed into it.

As soon as the sound of another wolf reached her ears, Kainda slowed down to a complete stop. She called back, then grinned, before getting down to business - all eyes and ears for another sign of another of her kind. But mostly, she put her nose to work (since they relied more on that than anything else) and dropped her head so she could sniff out any scents. Whoever it was was downwind, but maybe she'd have some more luck...

Ah! Yes. The gods smiled upon her once more. Kainda found some pugmarks and started to follow them. Seemed to be male, seemed to be healthy. Perhaps this was what she'd been hoping for for the last few days. Soon enough she'd know!

And so she did. The dark brown female padded along until she was a few lengths away from the male, both ears forward with curiousness. Her tail wagged a few times, hopeful. Back to her normal self though in her mind she still felt that odd sense of power and confidence.

"Hello."

He kept walking for now, nose to the ground, ears perked. He could smell it better now, and soon enough he heard paws tapping the ground, and as he lifted his head, the female was in sight.

He wagged his tail and smiled.

"Hello! " He said, purple eyes sparking for a bit. That scent.. It was odd. But fumbi wasn't gonna act different-- at least, he'd try not to. He would be himself, the world-loving maned wolf, who believed everything happened for a reason. A good reason, mind you. "Who are you? "

"I'm Kainda." He seemed friendly enough so she approached him some more, taking another few steps forward. Inclining her head again, nose outstretched, and sniffing once or twice. Then she relaxed. Yep. Smelt good. Didn't hurt he was a nice brown as well. And those eyes. She was glad that she didn't have half a dozen suitors. Kainda reckoned that this one would be fine. So long as he didn't turn out to be a nut... So long as they got along and were 'friendly' enough for a while.

"Hunter's Daughter. And you?"

He blinked in amusement slightly at the introduction. Hunter's daughter.. It probably meant something. "I'm Fumbi. Uh.. Dads son. " He said meekly, tilting his head slightly. Hunter seemed to mean something. But he had no idea what it was. But he didn't feel like asking. He coould feel emotion from her, as he'd always been sensitive to emotion and.. Well, it grew rather contagiously on him. Very contagiously.

"What brings you out here? " Dumb question, perhaps. He was out here too. But still. Small talk, for now, anyways. It was good.

The gods help her, she giggled. Dad's Son indeed! He was kinda cute. He'd definitely do.

"Oh just seeing this wonderful world and meeting people as I go. And you?" Kainda closed the gap some more and offered him a smile. Small talk was fine. She was happy to dally with him for a week or so if needs be.

"just lookin' fer stuff a lilttle out oft he ordinary. " He said, wagging his tail slightly. Life had gotten ordinary. Stand a lil over there, walk that way, eat here, sit there, sleep under that bush.. He loved life but gee, something different wasn't bad.

"What can I do you for? " Hey, perhaps she wanted some company, or something. Meeting people, right?

What could he do for her, eh? A little voice in her head snickered at that, though it didn't show outwardly. If Kainda had had a shoulder-devil, it would have nudged and winked at her, while her shoulder-angel gasped at the implication. And maybe worried about burning spinach puffs or something.

"Oh....walk with me for a while? Not met another wolf in a months. Please, Fumbi?"

PostPosted: Wed Oct 03, 2007 3:16 pm
"Ok! "

He wondered if he'd answered that too quickly. But something told him to spend time with this Kainda. Maybe it was because of this emotion that was contagious, or he wanted company, or it was something instinctive. That smell.. Maybe. "Where to? "

"Where ever our paws take us, I suppose." Her bright eyes sparkled a moment, and then she started to pad off, pausing to smile at him over her shoulder. He'd follow her right? Walk with her. She had no idea how to seduce anyone, besides being friendly and affectionate and possesive for a time.

Her instincts told her that he should be hooked by now. After all, he seemed old enough, he had no rivals...

He lifted his head.

It'd been a nice few days, though they had also been.. kind of odd, in a way. He didn't quite think right for now, and he wondered when the buzzing would stop. But the buzzing wasn't all bad. It was kind of good. He peered at kainda a bit, and sighed slightly. What had they been doing lately was.. straaange. Yea, very. But he rather not go into that.

They'd been looking for a good place to spend the night, as it was getting dark, and today had been rather tiring. This place seemed sheltered enough, though. It was a tree with a few bushes around it, and a den, long forgotten at the roots. "Whats this place look like? "

Much less tired, though she feigned equal fatigue, was Kainda. She was alongside him and rested her head briefly against his shoulder. Never in her life had she imaged what the last few days would be like, she'd been so caught up in the start and end of the story. Not the all important middle. The odd confusing middle. Still, that was almost done with. Something told her she'd completed this mission and should get back to her other one.

"This looks fine. Smells dry and all the animal-scents are old seeming."

PostPosted: Wed Oct 03, 2007 3:43 pm
"Yup. "

He smiled slightly. He wanted to get in there and sleep. Yes, sleep. Goodsleep. Normal sleep, please. He'd met her wanting out of the ordinary and he'd got it. Yes, Fumbi had enjoyed it, but for some reason, he wanted sleep. Good ol' sleep.

"I'll go inside. " He said, slipping insude the den and getting rid of a few old cobwebs, and doublechecking if there was no one in. Soon enough, he was kicking out a bit of dirt, which was.. dirty dirt. Yes. "All ready! " He announced, peeking his head out of the den.

"Thankyou." She chirped, and she waited for him to settle down. Kainda would rest nearest the exit as she had every night they'd spent together. She was kind of sorry she was leaving Fumbi behind but she didn't want a proper mate yet and despite his nice personality, she felt little for him but a weird sort of friendship. A loose bond.

One she intended to break. She had enough to do, especially with the new life she hoped was growing within her, without trying to explain about Clan to him. He'd be fine without her. Probably happier once their hormone levels dropped.
