Rengo yawned as he slipped through his old homelands, looking carefully around at everything. Not much had changed, really. He was looking rather worn, but after Ny was pissed at you that could happen..
He sighed slightly and his tail flicked, he'd asked Nafsi for some alone time after that amazingly embarrassingly ordeal he had to endure with her watching. Not that it wasn't embarrassing for her, too. His mother was sparing with her fury and Rengo couldn't help but feel a little bitter at that. He was sure his mother and Nafsi weren't too far in age... after all, his mom was considerably young... but Ny had still treated Nafsi like some teenage female that had stolen his heart and had sneaked him away or something...
His eyes floated over the left most of the three watering holes and he headed down to it, moodily slapping a paw at his reflection before he began to drink. Ah, this was very unlike the upbeat, friendly boy.

Njozi and Taabu had been back in their homelands for quite some time now. After all, Njozi had already found himself a pretty lioness and would probably be making her his mate any day now. The only downfall of his homecoming was that Rengo had not been here when he arrived. They were the two boys out of the first litter and had always been particularly close. Njozi didn’t want to gush his manly thoughts to one of his sisters – after all, the chances were pretty high that they would laugh at him, even if only teasingly. He didn’t want that to be thrown back in his face. They were probably likely to side with Ihlo too and just let him figure it out on his own, or tell him that the way a female’s mind works is none of his business. Girls were hard to understand sometimes.
He had found himself wishing more and more for the companionship of his slightly older brother and often roamed the lands on the off chance that he might be heading home. Of course, Njozi also made daily rounds to make sure there were no nasty rogues lurking about, so it wasn’t really going much out of the way. It’s the thought that counts, right? Still, imagine the pale brute’s surprise as he saw his darker counterpart lurking near the water hole. He had been by here a little earlier and had not seen Rengo, nor had he heard of his arrival from any of the pride. The silly git must have just gotten home!
“Rengo!” he called with a big grin plastered onto his face, his big form loping into a galloping run as he bee lined straight for the pink-tufted male batting angrily at the surface of the water. It was only a few moments before Njozi had closed the distance and launched onto the dark form – sprawling both of them out against the ground. “You’re home!” he said with that grin still intact, his larger form pinning his smaller brother to the ground.

Rengo had also thought of his slightly younger brother often on his travels, though more out of homesickness than because he wanted to share problems, he wasn't aware that he had a little problem right now.
As he heard his (nick)name called in a deeper voice (much deeper than he remembered it. How young had they been since they'd parted? Cubs? Juveniles?) A slow smile split his own features since he'd gotten home and he moved to stand and face his brother. Too late!
They both sprawled backwards, half into the water with a thunderous splash. A laugh escaped his maw as he hugged his paws around his opposite in coloring. "Njozi! It's so good to see you!" He replied, shoving his brother playfully off so he could stand and shake.
The mirth of seeing his brother slowly faded though and he coughed. "I wouldn't go near mom for a while, she's pissed." He said, seriously. It wasn't hard to guess who she was pissed at, of course. But Rengo wasn't ready to explain that just yet!
"How are you? Wow I haven't seen you in forever... you got big!" He exclaimed, his slightly younger brother now slightly bigger than he! "What have you been up to all this time?" This was a much nicer home coming than the one he'd gotten from their mother, that was for sure!

Njozi chuckled and pushed himself up onto his paws, taking a step back and shaking his body to send water flying from his fur. He was considerably less wet than Rengo was himself, considering that Rengo had been on the bottom, but he still had a good amount of water drenching his own form. Of course, shaking it out that way just made him look a little puffy, considering how large and fluffy his was. He certainly wouldn’t want Ihlo to see him this way – she might laugh at him.
“It’s good to see you too,” he said with a slightly lopsided grin, sitting down slowly in front of his brother to get comfortable. “And I did, yeah? You’re not so little yourself,” he chuckled out, although he really was bigger than Rengo. He was going to end up nearly as big as their father, or at least that was what mother said. It was hard to imagine that he had gone from such a tiny little cub to this size, much less eventually being one of the largest lions he had ever met.
“You pissed her off that bad?” he muttered with a quirk of his eyebrow, then he simply shook his head, sending his fluffy, black half-mane whirling around his face. “She wasn’t half so mad when dad and I came home. Well, actually, she wasn’t really mad at all – other than telling us she’d kill us if we left again.” He frowned, staring at his paws at the thought of his mother being so upset. Then he simply smirked and eyed Rengo with those deep, red orbs, “of course, we did tell her before we left.”
“Well, I was out training with Dad and Bibi, like we told everyone. I went and met some of our family in the pridelands and stuff, but I spent a lot of time learning to hunt, and getting lectures,” he wrinkled his nose as the ‘lecture’ bit, obviously not one to sit and listen to Syeira talk about duties and responsibilities. “We came home, eventually, and now I’m doing what I was told to do. Watch the pride, make sure Damu doesn’t kill anyone, and so on.” He laughed softly as he said it, but he really did take it seriously. He had seen Damu’s problem first hand.
“Oh, and I met this lioness..” he said, very quietly, almost inaudibly and immediately began to stare at his toes. Yeah, talking about her still made him feel nervous.

He made a face. Their mom threatened them even though they'd told her where they were going? Well she wouldn't like the fact that he and Nafsi were going to go off to the jungle then, was she? His tail twitched as he sat himself near to his brother, staring at the water with a small frown on his face trying to fathom how.... crazy his mother was. Not insane, nothing was wrong with her mind... but she needed to chill out. Of course, Rengo had always been pretty easy going.
"Yes I pissed her off that much. I wish I ran into dad first.." He grumbled. "It didn't help that N... er my friend.. was watching it all." He wasn't sure why he didn't mention Nafsi's name. Perhaps he didn't feel like being teased right now, he was sure Njozi would read too far into it!
He grinned slowly and glanced to his brother. "Oh? Is she from here or the pridelands?" He asked easily, quite happy for his brother. "What's her name?" He was simply curious, he wouldn't push the matter if his brother didn't want it pushed. He did not tease... er... half as much? "Does mom know?" He grinned playfully, implying he'd tell her if she didn't.
Really he'd do no such thing, even if his mother was on good terms with him right now!

“Dad probably would have just congratulated you about that green leopardess we heard you ran off with,” he said with a little smirk, his eyes shining. Rengo didn’t have to say her name to have him start teasing. After all, Njozi was smart enough to realize that if he had brought a friend back, then it was probably the same friend that he had originally left with. He frowned, however, and glanced back at Rengo, “you didn’t leave her with mom, did you?” He knew how crazy she was, and he certainly hoped that he hadn’t. The poor thing might not be there when he got back.
“She’s.. from here,” he said with a little lopsided grin, a slight blush to the flesh beneath his pale fur. Talking about Ihlo always made him grin like this, or laugh, or stutter. She just made him happy in general. “Her name is Ihlosenka,” he purred out, staring down at his feet, “and I think I’m going to ask her to be my mate soon.” He avoided Rengo’s eyes, but the grin was still there, if somewhat sheepish now.
“What?” he said sharply, jerking his head up and staring at his brother rather wild-eyes. Tell mom? Why in the hell would he do that? “You can’t.. say anything about Ihlo to her. You saw how crazy she went when you were gone for just a little while, what do you think she’d do if she realized I was going to move out of the cave to be with Ihlo somewhere else in the pride? She’d kill me.” He shuddered at the thought and his face seemed a little paler, if that was at all possible.

Rengo could feel his face warm but the blush was not as easily detectable as it was in his brother. It was easier to see he was feeling a bit shy and embaressed by the way he avoided looking at Njozi, instead staring off toward the river that was not in view from where they were sitting. "Ah.. congratulated me about what?" He was quite proud that he hadn't stammered in that sentence. "I was small when I ran off with her Njozi!" Nafsi was a bit older than him... and not interested. Why would she be interest? Ah! Why did he want her to be so interested so badly?
Ihlosenka... no, he had never met her. "Oh? From here... it really has been a long time." He laughed, looking back to his brother, feeling warm and proud that he was doing well for himself.
He roared with laughter as his little tease got his brother worked up and shook his head, trying to speak through his chuckles. "No, no! I am only kidding Njozi! I wouldn't open that can of worms on mother right after she flipped out on me!" He stated, grinning at him. His tail curled around his paws and he snorted. "She still has us all sleeping in that den? Isn't it a little... packed?" Ny had told Rengo about the new litter, he still wasn't sure how he felt about it thought. Five little brothers and a little sister... they must have been a paw-full.

“So, what does that matter?” he said with a smirk on his jaws, an eyebrow quirked in his brothers direction. As much as Rengo liked to get him flustered, he loved to do the same to him. It was just brotherly teasing. “Maybe she likes them young, yeah? Besides, you’re not little now.” He quirked a brow suggestively, but in the end, he simply laughed. He really should stop giving him such a hard time – he did just get home.
“Yeah, you’ve been gone longer than I have, and when I first met her she didn’t even have any idea I was part of our family,” he said with a weak laugh, shaking his head as he remembered back to the day. Even thinking about her put a glimmer in his eyes.
He looked automatically relieved as Rengo said he wouldn’t tell mom and he visibly relaxed, although he did shoot him a rather mean glare – but it was all brotherly love underneath. He shrugged then and glanced in the direction of home, “well, I mean, the den isn’t really too tiny and the little cubs don’t take up much room. They sleep with mom and dad and Amani and Tifu and I stay to the other side.” He shrugged with a little smile – he didn’t mind, because he loved the little ones. “Besides, it won’t be like that too long. Soon I’m leaving, and I’m sure Tifu and Amani will leave one day too.” It was true, the older kids were starting to branch off, and Nyunya and Taabu had the little ones to care for now.

He took a deep breath. "It doesn't matter." He admitted, albeit a little shyly. Ah, so Rengo did have feelings for Nafsi! He dragged his front paw in small circles in the dirt, as an excuse to stare at that rather than look at his brother. His brother was the typical 'good flirt' or something (in Rengo's mind, anyhow) and Rengo was just... a gentlelion? No... no... just... dull. Perhaps dull wasn't the best word, but it was the first word that sprung to his mind. Okay, second.
Nafsi... liking them young.. Rengo gave a chuckle at this and shook his head, this conversation was weird. "I wouldn't know how to tell anyhow.. so... yeah. Never mind." He tried to push that subject away.
Rengo could finally look up at his brother again, now that they were speaking of Njozi's girl troubles and not his (no! he didn't have any! he swore!). "Well.." He squinted at Njozi. "You don't really look like a royal." He smirked lightly. "Mum made all of use too white. Well... not me. But still. Dad may look exactly like what a royal around here should but none of us really inherited that... well except Tifu. And some of the new little ones, I guess."

He chuckled softly at his brother and reached up to bat at the bit of pink mane dangling in front of Rengo’s eyes, a teasing swipe that was meant to make him jump but not really scare him in the slightest. “What do you mean I don’t look like a royal, eh? I’ve got all this cream from Dad and Bibi, and then I’ve got this sexy black mane,” he gave his head a good shake as if to emphasize it, sending his mane whirling a little around his head. He let a lopsided grin slip on his mug, eyeing his brother from beneath the haphazard tuft of mane falling across his own eyes, “once I told her who I was though, it took me forever to make her be quite about ‘royal’ this and ‘royal’ that. I haven’t felt that awkward in my entire life.” Sure, he might like to brag about being part of the royal family sometimes, but that prim and proper attitude she’d tried to pick up to impress him had made him nervous. He was glad she had stopped that finally.
“Have you met any of the little ones?” he said with a grin, his eyes thick with affection as he thought over the little brothers and sisters. They were enough to make Njozi change the subject and do it gladly. He was happy to be an older brother and loved to dote on them. He’d spoil them beyond reason if their parents didn’t watch out.

He laughed. "You don't!" He insisted. "It's true, most of the royals look like Asi, not like mom!" That was his opinion anyways. He didn't mention their great-grandmother though, he couldn't. He didn't feel right talking about those who've passed on. "You know, like dad and grandma."
His tail flicked and he shook his head. "I haven't yet, what are they like? Do any look like me?" He grinned, he'd been the odd one out in the litter.

“You’re just jealous,” he said with a little huff, though it was all teasing and play acting when it came right down to it. He chuckled and nodded after that, however, and glanced towards the direction he knew the den lay in. “Yeah, most of them do look like Dad and Bibi, but we have a few oddballs other than just us, right? I mean, Bibi has a lot of red cubs and they’re totally not anything like the rest of the pride royals.” He nodded as he thought about it, realizing that a lot of the royals really did mate with lions that looked nothing like the rest of the pride. “Bibi had a new litter too, did you hear about all of them?”
“Like you?” he said with a little grin plastered on his mug. For a moment he simply shook his head, as if he couldn’t believe how conceited Rengo was, but then he simply laughed. With a nod, he glanced back at his brother, “yeah, Shuujausi looks like you a bit. I mean, he’s all black with mom’s white on him, no pink though. Kinya got that pink mane though.” He shrugged, but his smile was still in place, “they’re little rascals, just like you’d expect, but I think a couple of them might turn out to be Usare’Wasii. I know one at least looks like he got dad’s ‘humongasaur’ gene.” He smirked as he used the term, emphasizing it simply because that’s what their mom called it.

He rolled his eyes and smiled. "Jealous, right." He grinned widely at his brother and laughed at the mention of their grandmother. "Mom mentioned something about little hellions though when I was walking about before meeting you I think I may have spotted Uumikaji actually in a good mood. Can't be that bad... unless I was mistaken and it was Azima. Didn't get a good look, they look too much alike." He shrugged a little and grinned. "But with grandma's temper and Uumi's... whole personality... I'm not surprised they're worth three paw fulls.
He chuckled. "Well it had to be passed on to some of them besides you, right? I wonder if it's actually from father. Aren't there any other gentle giants in our family line, hmm?" He smirked, eyes dancing with delight at the word 'gentle', basically teasing Njozi.

“Well, I think Bibi’s temper is a little different than Babu’s, you know?” Njozi didn’t seem to find it odd that they called the pair by different names. He had spent more time with Bibi than any of the others and the term was completely affectionate. He simply called Uumi by Babu because it fit with Bibi. Of course, he didn’t really understand why Rengo refused to call Uumi by anything other than his name – even if he did pick on him, he was still his grandfather. “Besides, she doesn’t seem to be very mean to her kids, and I think she’s said something to Babu that made him chill out. I heard they had a big fight when we came home, and since then he’s been pretty sugar and spice. Well, he has a few lapses, but you can’t expect someone to change overnight.”
“Yeah, I guess someone else had to get it,” he said with a small smile and a little shrug, “but I do feel kind of bad that they’re going to be Usare’Wasii. I mean, I was so lonely being gone and away from everyone, and I know that’s what they’ll have to do one day.” He shrugged it off though and glanced back at Rengo. “Well, I mean, we’re related to the pridelander royals and Mufasa was really big, and Grandpa Asi isn’t really.. small.” He chuckled and shrugged, glancing at the sky, “who knows, though. Maybe it’s from Grandma Ari’s line – no one really knows much about the first Kusini members except for her, and I think she took the secrets to her grave.” There was a glimmer of sadness in his eyes for the death of his Grandma, but he hadn’t known her extremely well, so it was gone quickly.

He smiled slowly and nodded. "Oh, quite different." He agreed. Uumi's temper... was much more childish and very much unchecked. Their grandmothers was usually a cold anger and much more intimidating than their grandfathers. "Then again they're always having big fights." He added with a little smirk, shaking his head and sighing. "I hope I never have big fights with N..." He stopped dead on the first sound of Nafsi's name. He'd been about to say her name and... well he wasn't... they weren't together and... He coughed and tried to cover that up. Oh how hard he tried to fool his own heart! "With.. a girl." He muttered lamely, not sure how to fix that slip up.
"Lonely." He repeated, thinking it over. He'd never been too lonely while traveling though he still missed everyone. "Well, it will be alright since... they will return here." Hopefully, anyhow. "Ah but the pridelanders aren't a big bunch as a whole. I'm sure Mufasa was something special." He grinned. Indeed, he was bigger than most of the males his age he'd glimpsed while in the pridelands. "But still, it does add up in the family line." As Njozi went on to speak of Ari he fell quiet too, the mirth sliding from his expression. Yes, she must have taken many secrets to her unfortunate and untimely grave, something no one could do anything about. It was too bad!
