The sun was centered high in the lands over head, throwing down beating rays of hot light and bathing the Kusini pride in a wave of heat. Even the gentle spots of clouds that cradled the molten ball of gold did little to give shade or offer a break from the relentless midday sun. Many of the pride members were staying in their dens or lingering near the river and most of the lands seemed fairly deserted. Izulu, however, had no interest in being anywhere near where anyone else had taken up and was instead lingering beneath the great bows of an ancient tree. Around him, the fields stretched out in all directions but one and on that side ran the line of the great forest. The particular tree Izulu had taken up place beneath happened to simply be a straggler that had grown too far from the line and now stood alone in the midst of the field. Perhaps, long ago, the wind had blown it’s seed a little too far from its family.
Izulu huffed softly as he plopped his little chin upon his forepaws, the brown mismatched socked paw sticking out farther than the rest. His brilliant blue eyes glanced up at the sun as it drifted haphazardly through the large green leaves of the tree, splattering his little blue pelt with glimmers of green light here and there – ultimately making him appear amusingly patched. However, his expression at the moment was simply nothing even vaguely amused. He looked grumpy, irritated, and completely unhappy. Which was not surprising, in any case, for it was hot and humid and he was generally miserable. His fur was fluffier than he wanted it and the sun was beating down too hard for him to go bother finding Kinya or Sithela. He just wanted sunset to roll around so that the heat broke soon.

If the young cub was moaning about the heat then he should have heard Umbia moan. Her black and red coat seemed to shout at the sun to bathe her in it's stupidly hot rays all day long so she could do nothing but hide under a tree and hope the heat would pass by. However as she laid and got hotter and hotter she found her throat was feeling dryer and dryer.
Moaning a little more she struggled to her feet and slowly walked towards the familiar water. She didn't see anyone while walking there and in the end she was so happy to see the water she just collapsed in it with a rather large splash letting the cool liquid lap at her sides. At least it was cooling her off and so she stretched her neck a little and started to drink some of the water.
The only problem Umbia had now was that she was more in the suns view now then she had been, so after drinking and rolling about in the water somewhat she got up, feeling cooler and ran from the water and towards a rather large tree that looked far too old to still be standing but it looked as if it gave a decent amount of shade. So at last she was under it and she collapsed, panting a little. She hadn't noticed she was sharing the tree with someone else, she was too hot to really care.

Izulu had noticed the older female come trotting from the embrace of shade in the distance and had watched with only half an interest as she plopped herself into the water. He grimaced at that, trying to imagine was the muddy banks felt like and how horribly difficult her fur was going to be to get back in place. He supposed she must have done it in order to offer herself some form of relief from the heat, but he wasn’t sure he would have done that if he had been dying from it. It just seemed like such a bother to get his fur messy and wet for such a silly reason. Of course, Izulu was always complaining about something, so it wasn’t likely that he’d be happier either way.
He frowned as she came towards his tree at such a galloping pace, and he was just about to say something about his own personal space when the female plopped in – sending a small torrent of water droplets from her fur. He grunted as he pushed himself up from his laying position, shaking his fur from where bits of water had landed on him. His eyes narrowed and he turned to look at her, a small frown on his maw – he looked, at the best, unpleased.
“Excuse you,” he muttered with quite the air of arrogance for such a young cub, “you could have said excuse me before you splattered me with all that water, you know.” Oh, what a nice first impression he made!

She looked at the male cub and snorted, "Oh get over it."
She turned away from him and laid herself out in the shade. She laid on her side, with her legs stretched out in different directions so that she could keep as cool as possible. Her head was on the ground and her eyes closed. Oh it was so nice to be wet and in the shade. Shame about the company but she could ignore that.
However she felt a little cheeky so kept rubbing her tail alongside her body and then flicking the water in his direction, she could hope that he would leave after all!

As the water droplets began to fling in his direction, a little growl developed in his throat. Of course, being a cub, it wasn’t half so impressive as it would have been had he been a little older. Regardless, he knew his place in the pride and knew, at the same time, that she simply had no claim to the blood he did. Of course, being Izulu, his blood-ties to royalty meant a lot more to himself than it did to other lions of the pride – he simply was just unwilling to see it.
“Go find your own bloody tree,” he muttered, eyes fixed to the back of her head as if he could shoot lasers from them. Of course, if he had been able to do that, one could only assume that she would have long been fried by now. “There are a dozen others around here and you could find another one instead of moving in on the one I had first,” he hissed, trying to relax back into his laying position but finding that the new rigidity of his body (caused by her irritating attitude) made it quite uncomfortable.
He clenched his jaws as he watched her, each flicker of water towards him making him grit his teeth all the tighter. She really was working up his attitude and he didn’t like being played with to begin with.

She just chuckled.
"Get over yourself, seriously."
She spoke in a flat tone not really caring too much about what he thought. He needed to learn to share after all he was tiny and well blue. Blue, seriously, what a rubbish colour to be? Well it didn't bother her too much she wasn't moving, oh maybe she should tell him that.
"Oh and I'm not going anywhere so get use to it and learn to share." Stupid males!

He snorted, eyes glaring down at her rather viciously. “Learn to share? Perhaps you should try and learn not to be so rude,” well, that was honestly the pot calling the kettle black, but as far as he saw it she had been rude to him first. Honestly, what kind of nitwit splattered someone else with water and then intruded on their privacy uninvited? The thought made him wrinkles his nose and a sneer was clearly etched on his little maw.
“I don’t share anything,” he hissed and began to trod away from the tree. She could have the stupid thing, there were others that he could rest under. Besides, a drink of water sounded good to him right now. With a little leap, he clambered up onto a rock that hung out into the river slightly, then leaned down to get a good lap of water for himself.
Honestly, the nerve of some of these cubs around here! Did they not realize he was royalty? True, there were a lot of royals, but he knew almost every single one by first glance, and she was certainly not one of them. What had been wrong in his grandparent’s minds with letting so many bothersome lions in here?

Umbia just laughed, she wasn't about to move just because a stupid cub couldn't be bothered to share. He had to learn one day and that day just happened to be today. She didn't care in the slightest whether he was leaving now either, she wanted to make him realise he was far too up his backside so if he was going to be rude, she was going to be annoying.
"Leaving? Well I might just join you."
She got up and shook her fur, it was still somewhat wet, which she was happy about and decided to follow the annoying cub. Some people just had to learn and he was most defiantly one of them!

A small sneer spread across his maw as he realized that the brat was following him. Why couldn’t some lions just take a hint? Izulu didn’t want company, now or ever, and would prefer that she just buggered off and annoyed her own family. Honestly, did she not have anything better to do with her time?
He huffed and spread out across the rock so that there was no room for her to climb up and sit – maybe she’d take that as a hint and just go away. Regardless, he glanced down at her, eyes narrowed slightly. “I didn’t invite you to join me,” he muttered rather coldly, icy eyes watching her every movement.

She didn't have anything better to do, especially in this heat so when he jumped onto the rock she just laid in the shade looking up at him.
"Does it look like I care?"
She was here to be annoying now until he realised how rude he was. She had no problem with doing it, especially as he had stopped somewhere that gave her a little shade, it made things much easier for her. She wasn't going to say anything though, she was well aware he would probably go somewhere with no shade if he knew that.

His teeth gritted as he lay there staring into the depths of the river. Well, she was beginning to be quite the little nuisance, and he wasn’t going to be able to handle this. He sighed rather loudly and glared down at her for a few moments, trying to think on what in the world he could do to make her go away. It was obvious that being angry and cruel would do nothing to harm her. The only thing he could figure out was perhaps trying to satisfy whatever in the hell she wanted for a few minutes.
“What do you want?” he asked, just barely keeping it from being a hiss, but not able to keep the coldnss out of it regardless. He didn’t want to play this game, or deal with her, he wanted to be left in peace. If she didn’t bugger off, he’d just head home or find one of his older relatives to make her go away. His aunt Syeira, he heard, was quite the sharp tongued lioness – but she was just as likely to give him a good piece of her mind as she was to give this girl some. He’d take that chance if he didn’t find a way to make her shoo, or at least quit following him.

"What do I want? Well thats an interesting one. I will have a think about it." She continued to lay where she was thinking about his question. She would like him to be a friend instead of trying to get rid of her and then maybe one day when it's not so hot she could teach him to loosen up a little? That seemed to be a good idea.
She looked up at him and smiled softly, she wasn't going to let a cub push her around, well she wouldn't let anyone push her around. Sitting up and stretching she turned her red eyes to him.
"OK I thought about it, and I want you to be my friend. That way I will promise to be less annoying but it has to be genuine! Don't try and fake being my friend because it won't work!" She was pleased with her idea though she was sure he wouldn't be but hey it was upto him. She was happy to just continue being annoying!

He narrowed his eyes on her as she decided to think about what she wanted, his tail lashing angrily behind him. Who in the world did she think she was? He wasn’t here to negotiate anything with her and that had honestly been some form of a rhetorical question – he didn’t want an honest to god answer, he just wanted her to bugger off and leave him alone. He sighed and glanced away, waiting for her to say whatever it was that she wanted to. It was obvious that she wasn’t going to give up on getting whatever she wanted to out of him and if he walked away again she’d probably just follow him – why wouldn’t she just go away like he asked? Well, demanded?
“You what?” he hissed, pushing himself up and staring at her with narrowed eyes. She wanted him to be her friend? Did she not get him at all? He was mean, grumpy, and downright bitchy – he didn’t want anyone to be his friend. He wanted most of them to go away. However, he flopped back with a sigh, teeth gritting as he thought it over. If he said no then she’d stick around and just generally drive him up the wall, maybe if he agreed to it then she’d just bugger off quicker or at least quit being so damn pestering. However, if he took what she said seriously, he’d actually have to try to be nice. Oh well, maybe he could use her for something good down the road. “Fine, whatever,” he hissed again, rolling his eyes back towards her, “so what do I have to bloody do to convince your I’m your friend?”

Umbia chuckled.
"You know if your going to be grumpy its not a bad thing to have someone you can moan to. I don't want you to prove anything, I just want you to relax. No need to prove anything." She was a reasonably level headed girl. She knew how to be annoying and she knew how to be clever. It came in handy when coming across arogant cubs.
She wriggled about a little, yawning before settling back down. She wasn't really going to say much. After all he had to learn how to become friends with someone, she wasn't going to tell him how to do that.

He snorted as he listened to her, looking down at her with a bit of a huff. “What on earth would I have to moan about, especially to you? The only things that get on my nerves are other lions that can’t respect someone’s boundaries.” He frowned immediately after that statement, however, as he realized that getting mean with her probably wouldn’t make her any more tolerable. “I mean that I don’t have anything to complain about, I just prefer to be alone,” he muttered, flopping his tail slowly.
He couldn’t understand why she couldn’t simply come to realize that some lions just preferred to be alone. He didn’t want to spend time with anyone, he would be with his family if he did, not out here talking to some random female that decided he needed a friend. He had two brothers and a mother that nearly acted his own age – they were enough company for three cubs over. He sighed, letting his eyes glance back towards her – he might as well find out something about her if she insisted on sticking around.
“My name is Izulu’Anga,” he said, turning his eyes away and staring down at the slow flowing river instead, “I suppose you have one to, yes?”
