	You lose some. Yes, that's a hat. It's supposed to sit on my head. I had an inkling that the pattern was not right when it didn't list a gauge. This is a pattern published by a yarn manufacturer, and I'm assuming a knowledgeable knitter... without a gauge listed. The pattern called for superchunky yarn on size 10 1/2 needles. I knit it with bulky yarn on size 10s... and it completely ate my head. either way, I thought the new knitters might get a good laugh out of it. biggrin You can't be perfect.

	I don't have the right to point and laugh... I did the same thing with a hat. I did, however, unravel the entire thing and start over again. I hate to waste yarn.

	It's 100% wool, so tomorow it's getting a good felt. If it still doesn't fit, it has a very interesting shape and will probably make a very nice purse...

	Oh dear, that hat is unfortunate. At least it's wool so you can felt it down to a better size.

	rofl Okay, that is exactly why I a) don't trust patterns, and b) always try things on as I knit, making adjustments as needed.

	Well... it's felted. And it fits my head. I don't know whether I have a "merry idiot" hat or a smashing tentacled candy bowl. Here is the pattern, woith sizes for baby and adult. Somehow I doubt it fits anyone no matter how you knit it. The hat that doesn't work. if I may quote: Quote: This pattern will work for an Adult size hat if you use Crystal Palace Taos double stranded and size 10 ½ needles or Crystal Palace Iceland with size 10 ½ needles. You will need 3 balls of MC and 1 ball of CC for Taos and 2 balls of MC Iceland and One ball of CC. No. it doesn't. trrrrrust me. Iceland is at 2.5-3.5 sts/inch on 10.5 to 13 needles. The Galway I used is 3.5-5 st per inch on 10-11 So to make myself feel better I made the really cute spiraly hat. yay.

	At least the baby hat has a gauge. I think you could knit/felt a lot of those. It looks awesome! The spiral hat rocks too. heart

	before you felted it. My reaction is trying hard to not roll on the floor laughing. It was a cute idea, until you realized it was too big. snorts with laughterthen proceeds to laugh out loud* However, not to make you feel too bad, it could have gone the other way around, having had made it too small. true story After the felting, it looks great!

	The spiral hat is super simple: knit 6 rows of Stockinette stitch. On every right side rows decrease (SSK) at the beginning of the row and increase (YO) at the very end. Change colors. Knit 6 rows of reverse stockinette stitch. On all right side rows decrease (P2tog) at the beginning, increase (YO) at the end. You should have a biiiig parallelogram. Knit until the straight edge with all the decreases will fit around your head. Sew the slanted sides together. You should now have a cylinder. Thred yarn (or embroidery floss) though the holes at top, pull. Viola! hat. Pick up and knit stitches for a band, if desired. Ann Norling makes a pattern for the hat, which I can link if you wanted to see it/buy it.
