[Oh yah, I forgot to say: Feel free to toss anyone in here, Mwovu will be off for a while, but he'll be back once I get done with him what I want done, ie, his little color change. If we talked about RPing in the thread I made, feel free to hop in even more biggrin ]

Sullen, tired paws tread heavily on the dusty earth of the Ela'Wadiyi lands. A still young, grey hued lion made his way sluggishly across a clearing, jagged crimson tattoos, seemingly etched onto his back marked him as one of the pride. They were the marks of a hunter, a beloved son, and a slave. But that was all in his past. This, this was his present. His future. These lands that now seemed so lifeless held the key to his true happiness, but, this young lion wasn't sure where he was to find that satisfaction and joy.

He had been restless lately, pacing, not being able to sleep, his mind racing with thoughts that he didn't know how to put together. He had believed that simply finding this place would make him happy, and, of course, after living harrowing months with the Darkfire, this place was a haven. He knew that was a fact, but he wasn't believing it. Upon his first arrival, he had felt happiness... Or had he? He had been excited to meet others, integrate himself, but not anymore, his heart just wasn't in it. Something held the lion back. But what was it? He didn't know.

Breathing out a long, phlegmy sigh, the sole remaining member of the Wolf Clan came to a halt. Dark red gaze traced the jagged outline of the mountains before him, taking in the serenity of his home. Closing his eyes, he rose his head, letting the soft breeze pass over him. The white feather adorning his mane twirled in the wind, a constant reminder of what he had once been. The morose lion stood in sheer stillness and silence for a few minutes, hoping the answer to everything would just come to him. Maybe the spirits of the land would guide him in the right direction, but alas, his answer was not in the land today. Blinking crimson eyes open the lion moved on to a scrubby patch of grass. He pondered over moving on in his meandering of the lands, but he was too exhausted to pass over such an inviting spot. Reaching the grass, the young lion simply collapsed in a heap. The stoic creature laid his head onto his tired paws, but sleep didn't come; he simple laid there, pondering away.

The dark lion was not the only creature drawn to the scrubby patches of grass that afternoon. The grass which grew in haphazard patches about the red earth had been intriguing the sleek white female for a while now- and had become the number one excuse for her lagging. The brutish male seemed content so long as he had a reason [although they both knew the reason was weak at best], and had decided to keep himself busy by roaming the outskirts of the mountains. That was good enough for her, and she had to admit, she was glad to have him off for the afternoon.

Amédia sniffed, raising her head out of a small sandy hole she had dug. This earth was rich in good medicine, buried beneath the red sand. It’d been a while since she’d met these kinds of roots- now the only problem was finding them. She could feel them close, but that was about all she had to come from.

She followed an even trail from the patch of grass she’d been nosing. Up ahead seemed promising. But unfortunately- there seemed to be a young male resting on the spot! Had it not been for the pace of his heart, she would have taken him for sleeping. Smiling sheepishly the lioness aproached, walking a circle around to be sure she did not startle him. The thick tattoos covering his back marked him as a native to the red lands- a friend of Ona, perhaps?

"Hello dear heart." Amedia smoothed. "You wouldn't mind me poking around the ground here, would you?"

Just as the solemn male had laid his head down, the breeze perked him back up, as it brought in the scent of another. As he sensed it, he concluded that it wasn't someone that he had met before, which really wasn't saying much, as the poor lion had yet to meet most of his pride. Head perking slightly, he set his crimson eyes to scan the horizon, looking for the source of this disturbance.

A shiver quickly ran down his spine, making the lion shudder momentarily. He wasn't sure whether to be excited, or scared. Instinct told him to run before whoever was around got whiff of him as well, but good reason told him to stay. The dark lion's mind raged with the conflict for a few moments before he made up his mind. His instincts were taking over, he'd flee for his life. But it seemed he had made up his mind too late. As he stood to bolt off, a soothing voice reached his ears, though it didn't necessarily comfort him. Standing stark still, wild, doe eyes dashed to the source of the voice.

Before him stood a white, yellow marked lioness, one with a kind air to her. However, the male had never seen her before, and his suspisions were turbulent. He had enough trouble communicating with this he did know. Still staring intetly at the lioness, he nodded in response to her hello, and tore his gaze away to look down at the ground before him. Taking a few, quick steps back, he looked back to her,

"Ye--No! I... No, no... Go... Go ahead."

The white creature shifted in concern and daintily sat up on her hind legs for a moment as the other scrambled a few steps back. His words were stammered and quick, and she touched her paws together and privately scolded herself. She should have known better- the lions here were still wary. Sometimes she grew so attached to the mortal earth that she felt, in some way, connected to everyone. But she dismissed the concerns in her mind and settled, deciding instead to lower her head and smile apologetically.

“Oh! I don’t mean to trouble you so. You don’t need to get up.” She added, and made a careful circle around the hard grass. “I’m just poking around, you’ll have to forgive me. Once I start looking for something, I tend to forget I’m being rude.” The goddess chuckled and self consciously pushed some of the dirt off her paws. It fell without much hesitation, leaving her white coat eerily clean. “Or, when I’m troubling thoughts I suppose.” She admitted. “My name is Améh- a bit of a traveling healer of sorts.”

Her strange eyes fluttered about as she ran out of conversation, and embarrassedly attempted to recompense bothering him. “...bumbling, really...” She continued, and shifted. Something about the male’s eyes...he seemed downtrodden. She doubted rambling on was helping any. “You...” Amédia did many marvelous things in her reign over her domain. But- she was not always the most eloquent speaker. “...aren’t sick, are you?”

He didn’t feel sick; but she hoped maybe the offer would dismay any worries he might have had.

For a few more tense seconds, the gray male stood silently, with his mouth agape, before the white lioness. He wasn't exactly sure what to say to her. More wavering silence passed before the female spoke again. His eyes narrowed softly on her as she spoke, and in response, the male quickly shook his head in a stern fashion, signaling to Améh that she wasn't intruding or bothering him in the least bit. It was he that was being rude, inapproachable even, but that thought didn't cross his mind just yet.

"Améh... I'm Mwovu'Waya... Er, or just Mwovu."

The male cringed lightly as he introduced himself with a gruff voice. He hated his name, absolutely abhorred it. It wasn't his birth name, the one given to him by his parents, but a name that had been attached to him while he was enslaved with the Darkfire. He still hadn't gotten over the trauma.

The more time passed, the more comfortable Mwovu began to feel around this new lioness. She obviously wasn't here to cause him any harm. Letting his stiff posture loosen, he moved back to the spot where he had previously been before jumping back.

"No, don't... Don't worry. The land is yours... As much as it is mine... Améh."

After a long blink, he lowered his solemn eyes to the ground, gazing at the red dust and picking at it with a sharp claw. He sighed, wondering just what it was this lioness was looking for in the dirt, but didn't feel it'd be polite to ask. He'd been rude before, he wasn't going to be again, if he could help it. Her next question brought a barely visible, but sheepish smile to his lips,

"Sick? No... At least... Sick with nothing... Nothing this world can heal me of."

Mimsey
“Oh?” She asked quizzically, gently swooping her dainty form around the tree. A challenge, maybe? But it was true- if Amedia knew anything, it was that not all things could heal as easy as cuts and bruises. She was sorry to see the young lion so glum. Usually she could rely in the youth to be anything but. Yet; perhaps she arrived on that conclusion after too much time around her aging companion. The thought of him brought a slight quirk to her face, and her ringed eyes batted once in consideration of it.

“You’d be surprised what the earth knew.” She remarked softly. “And what it can find ways to cure. Only problem with earth is that it doesn’t like walking. Sometimes you have to go to it.” The white lioness gestured, her sleek neck tilting to the side as she observed the tree in front of them. “Old tree- they nurse good remedies. The oweda root can cure blindness if you get it at just the right time- and to just the right person.”

“But nothing for sad hearts.” She frowned, and shook her head. “That would be something to find.” She added honestly. “But if you don’t mind me to ask you- what troubles you so?” She asked, a strange mixture of words or accent tumbling from her lips. “I’m afraid I am best at other things- but maybe I can listen?”

Crimson eyes drifted back to Ameh, her interest seemed to have been piqued. Mwovu's head perked up as she spoke, her soft voice projecting such wisdom. Taking a few careful steps closer to the lioness, Mwovu sat down, on his brown, there was the furrow of consideration. His gaze slid to the tree Ameh mentioned, and then back to her.

Her words hit him deeply. 'You have to go to it'. Yes, that was it. To alleviate this burden from his shoulders, he'd have to leave these lands, as there was nothing here to help him. The though of leaving his newly found home brought another pang of sorrow to his heart, but he knew he wouldn't be gone forever. He just needed someone who'd help him. But who? What he needed was the impossible.

Blinking hard, Mwovu cleared his thoughts, attention redirecting at Ameh. He sighed heavily at her question, shaking his head slowly,

"I want to be who I once was. Before the Darkfire took all I had."

Mwovu looked down quickly, trying to hide the pain in his expression that the memories brought. To be restored, body and mind, it'd be a blessing. To have his white pelt back, he always thought of it as a gift from his mother, may the gods rest her soul. When Mwovu's gaze swung back up to Ameh, there was a new sense of determination behind his eyes,

"Who can do that? Who can fix me?"

A kind of sorrow danced over her eyes as her face dropped. She did not know who ‘darkfire’ was- but sensing pain alone was enough to make her shiver. “Bad people…” She reflected softly, thinking. “To make you feel you’ve lost yourself. Something no one should be able to take.” She pressed a paw to the earth, as if to feel it beneath her. “So many dark days, but there are good days too. I think you need to let in the light.”

At his question, she quieted. “I do not know… I think only we can fix ourselves, if we are really to be fixed. But sometimes it takes others to help us realize we need fixing. Perhaps speaking to others will help? People who know you- or haven’t known you yet?” Her strange ringed eyes solidified in intent. “Hard to heal sad hearts. We’re the only medicine for it, but another is even better. And the more you have, the stronger it gets. You have to listen to what it tells you to do. It usually knows the better.”

What was her own heart saying? She knew it whispered, but as of yet she made no notice of it. For another time, maybe… “These Darkfire,” She continued. “What keeps them on you, even though they are gone? Whatever that is. That’s what you must find and fix. Like a poison.”

A light breeze blew by the two conversing lions, ruffling Mwovu's thick mane. He sighed slowly in reflection of what Ameh was saying. The female was a highly intelligent, highly spiritual creature, the dark male figured. It brought comfort to him, her wisdom. Never in his life had someone been around too give him advice, especially not of the emotional type.

"My medicine..."

The young male mumbled to himself, ruminating on what Ameh had just said. Maybe she was right. Maybe being so secluded is why he still felt like this. He was positive that he had ended up like this as for a lack of social contact in the first place. But would others help? He figured the only way he'd find out would be to go find out on his own. At her question, he looked to the ground in shame, the terrible memories he carried with him flooding his system,

"The memories, scarred into my mind... Can't cleanse them from my mind. Enslavement, torture, I can't forget."

What happened to Mwovu when he was a cub was attrocious, and he felt he just couldn't get past it. But he needed to find a way. To find those that inspired him to be what he had been before this tragedy, that would be his cure. Ameh was his first dose.

Her heart hurt for him. In all her life- and many lives, she had not been able to harden her heart to the way of mortals as others did. Some gods claimed mortals could never be changed- always hurting one another, causing strife, tormenting the weak… How quick they were to toss out the good with the bad! She was sorry such things had happened to Mwovu, and the rest of his clan and people. Sometimes she wished she could say she understood the hurt and pain that others suffered- but really, how could she know? She felt their pain. She felt it in her constantly as her domain sought to rectify it. But she did not know the fear of mortality, or how the pain could continue to lurk long after the scars had healed. She lived in a continuum of constancy.

“I wish I could say they’d go away.” She frowned sadly. “No one should have to live with such memories… but, maybe you will fill yourself with new memories. Better ones that scare the bad ones away.”

Affectionately, she touched his shoulder with her paw, her strange eyes veiling. “I’m sorry things like this have happened, Mwovu. But I have good faith in others. You'll find a way, I promise.”

Mwovu could tell his companion was pained by what he was relaying. Slowly, his eyes slid back up, fixing once again on the empahetic lioness. He was glad for this chance encounter. It was good to get his thoughts out, share them with someone else instead of keeping the burden all on himself. But at the same time, it shamed him to burden someone else with his problems. Ameh seemed to be relatively chipper before he'd bump into her. He really hoped he hadn't ruined her day. Mwovu worked up a light smile, trying not to seem like such a downer.

"You're right, you are. These memories are a tragic burden... But, I have to move on, don't I?"

That light smile widened with her touch. Ameh's kindness was such a small, simple gesture, but he felt himself a little better already, at least for a moment. He would find his way, he knew it for sure, now.

She smiled softly. It might have hurt- but sharing things like this only reaffirmed her hope in mortality and her resilience in defending them. Not to mention- it wasn’t often she could offer any help. Her mate would rather stoically face the world and to hell with trying to fix his problems. It was why she had attached herself so reverently to him- but seeing the change in Mwovu also restored some faith to her.

Amedia’s head nodded. “Sometimes it’s all we can do to move forward. I wish you all the luck fate can bring, Mwovu. Viede et thall.” A private blessing, although he probably wouldn’t feel it. Wherever his travels took him, she could at least ensure him good health and resilience until he found what he was looking for.

Her head bobbed in affirmation, and she smiled. She was a delicate creature- but in moments of high faith she could almost appear proud.

Mwovu tossed his head lightly, clearing his bangs from hiding his red eyes. For the first time in an extremely long time, his gaze firmly made eye contact with another being. It was a big step, for someone like him. There was a hint of hope behind his eyes, instead of his usual depressing haze. He'd only known this lioness for a short time, but there was a depth behind her that was rather mysterious, intriguing. Maybe someday, he'd find out more about her, but not today, he wasn't bold enough to ask. Not yet.

"Thank you. Thank you, Ameh, for your time, your words, your help. I will go search, search for my cure. Hopefully, our paths will cross again someday."

The small male dipped his head in respect to her. Mwovu smiled again, and nodded, reluctant to head off, finding comfort in being around someone of such wisdom and kindness, but he had gotten what he needed. He had gotten a path to follow. With another nod of thanks, the dark lion turned, padding off into the red, dusty horizion. He turned his head, giving his new friend a last look before dissapearing. He'd find her again, given everything worked out, thank her once more. Mwovu wouldn't forget this kindness.
