"Well, here it goes..."

The brown lioness picked her way through the damp lands, after she had parted ways with Banji. Such a sweet lion, perhaps a bit too sweet...but she didn't regret it. Perhaps that's what Mana had meant, to find something to live for. A new home...maybe the chance at a new family. It was something to keep her head up and not give up.

She heard of the pride that lived here, but she didn't know much else about it. Peering through the trees, she still couldn't see much, and hadn't a clue as who to talk to. Maybe if she saw someone, she could ask if it was a possibility to meet the king or queen.

Once she saw someone, anyway.

Asali'jua opened her bright eyes halfway, peering out into the dimly-lit swamp. She lay almost fully submerged in one of the murky pools of the swamp, taking an hour or so out of the day to cool off and relax; Jabali could handle the cubs for a little while, she was sure. If her son Nari had been here, he would have been helping to babysit, but she'd sent him away in hopes that he might come back with a mate.

As she thought about her brown-eyed son, a whisper of feeling tingled through her mind, compelling her to rise. Never one to ignore intuition, she pulled herself from her resting place - just in time to come face-to-face with a dusty brown lioness, as it turned. She smiled even as the water sluiced off her body, leaving behind soaked and brown-tinged pale fur that at the legs was outright muddy.

Startled, the brown lioness stumbled back, but managed to keep herself silent. She didn't just expect someone to pop up like that, out of the ground, literaly. She gave herself a moment to gather her wits again, so she would be prepared to speak calmly. No use in trying to ask for a favor from a stranger if you couldn't even speak clearly!

Nyota bobbed her head awkwardly, trying to show a bit of respect before vocalizing her request. "Umm, hello." She peered around for a moment, as if to see if any others would appear so suddenly. Maybe....maybe not. Her rose-coloured eyes settled themselves on the lioness in front of her, certain that she was the only one around.

"I was looking for the prdie that....that I heard lived here?" She flushed lightly, hoping that she was right, since it would be quite embarassing if she was wrong, all this time.

"And you have found it," the sun-marked lioness replied, smile soft on her muzzle. She looked the other over, from scars to feather-necklace. She was a good color, a very good color. It more muted than rich, but a nice brown nonetheless - not that she was one to be picky when it came to coats. Red was just about the only one that would make her wary.

"I am Asali'jua," she offered. "What is it you seek?"

Nyota felt like the other was looking over her. Perhaps just her body type, her health? She wouldn't blame her. Nyota was a bit small so far, but she new that she held children again. Her body had begun to flesh out a bit more, especially since Banji could catch better food then she ever could.

But her mind shook her back to the present. "A home, I think," she said, without really realizing it until the words had drifted out of her mouth. Oops, that was silly. She moved her head a bit closer to her neck, as if hoping to not get repremanded for such a blunt comment. No use trying to cover it up, it was already gone, away from her.

"That you may have found as well." Asali dipped her head graciously, and a faint purr came from the back of her throat. "If you decide that life here agrees with you. In the meantime...what is your name?"

"And tell me, please, what you have heard of us."

One ear swayed forward towards the other liones, quickly followed by the other, and then her face. Perhaps? That was much better than anything else, really. Her body language smoothed into a calm state, feeling a bit less foolish.

"Nyota'ausi," she replied, her name that felt more like a curse than anything. "I heard about these areas only in passing, through the birds in the trees, the beasts in the grasses. Sometimes other lions, though they were few and very far between one another."

"Nyota'ausi." Asali considered it for a moment, before nodding. "You will be given a new name, if you do decide to become one of us. Our children are sent on quests to find their name, but as you are no child...we will simply get to know you, and determine something fitting from there."

"Now...come with me, why don't you? You should meet the rest of us - not that there are terribly many."

Nyota's body tremmored lightly before she nodded towards the other, feeling a bit more confident, though this whole thing did seem a bit odd to her. Though....with how her life had been chewed up and spit out lately, she didn't seem to mind it that much.

"Yes," she replied, picking up her paws to follow after the queen intently, pleased that she seemed to be accepted well, so far.
