“And what if he isn’t your father?”

Ausi spoke out as she gazed upon Vulcan’s sitting form. They had made camp at the beach and had spent all night together, talking about him and his past. From what he told her it was hard to believe that they weren’t related… but, still, something about him and his sly smirk made her uneasy. It was easy to see that he was Firekin- he had the attitude and the body mass for it, the brute strength. Apart of her feared him… even though he said he was her brother, she couldn’t let it go. Something just wasn’t right.

“I think we both know that the outcome will be as I said it was, I am his son and I am your kin. The question is, how will you handle it?”

He had her eyes and he could tell that made her unsay. The eyes that they both shared didn’t lie and she would have to see that soon. Once he spoke with Akamu everything would change.

“Tell me, sister.”

His words rolled off of his tongue slowly as he spoke, eyeing her rather darkly.

“Where is this mother of yours? And you’re missing sister?”

That was a sore subject for Ausi and this could be seen as her eyes narrowed and her ears flattened backwards in slight hesitation. Why the hell was he asking her this? Ausi’s paws slowly crossed one another as she settled herself to face him, blue eyes gazing at a reflecting color.

“I don’t know what happened, but somewhere along the line my mother stopped loving my father… I guess. So she left and took Mati with her. I have not seen Mati or my mother for many years now. But I do not hold it against my mother.. for leaving me, but… my father. He didn’t need that to happen, not after he brought us up all alone…”

She stopped and sighed. She was rambling again.

“Sorry. To answer your question, I do not know, but I’d like it if we didn’t talk about it anymore. Its isn’t easy losing your mother and sister at such a young age.”

“Don’t you think I know that feeling, Ausi?”

Vulcan asked as he cocked his head at her, frowning slightly.

“I lost my father at a young age and soon after my mother passed away. I know your pain and I can understand and respect why you do not want to talk about it. So I’ll drop it for now.”

He wouldn’t press heavy subjects on her, he wanted his sisters to like him, and he wanted to know this long lost side of the family.

“May I ask another question?”

“Yes.”

Ausi’s tail flicked from side to side as she nodded at him and awaited his next question.

“Your mate, do you two have any cubs?”

he had not seen any little ones running around, but he expected that she was a mother by the way she held herself and how protective she was with her sister and family.

“Yes, Fedha and I have five cubs. They aren’t so little anymore. Perhaps… after you see father and all of this is shorted out, if you are truly my brother… then maybe I could introduce you to them.”

He nodded slightly and chuckled at her words. She was still unsure of his relation to her… but soon she would have to believe him, he wasn’t wrong… he couldn’t be, no, not with this. When he first saw her… first heard her father’s name.. it clicked, those eyes- that name. They just had to be related.

“Ausi, thank you for this. Once I speak with Akamu I am sure things will smooth out. I just need to do this for myself, you know? I need this."

“Why, what are you looking to gain from all of this?”

Ausi questioned as she eyed him. Apart of her felt his pain and sorrow… but another half questioned it. He was old enough to be without a father, he was older than her. Why did he want to know his father now, out of the blue?

“Understanding. Understanding of why he did what he did, what happened back then in the Firekin and if he even knows I am alive.”

He paused.

“it’s the worst feeling… you know? My father doesn’t even know I exist. I just need to let him know that he has a son out there somewhere.”

“Well, Vulcan, once the sun hits the water I will take you to him; I really do hope you find the answers you are looking for while you’re here.’

With that the two stopped and gazed at the sun as it slowly started to trickle across the ocean’s waves. Soon the truth would come out
