So, how many of y'all think that the .22 LR has enough power to penetrate a Z-Skull?

I think it can, it may not have the most power, but there isn't much surface area.
HOWEVER, I'd prefer a .17 HMR, .17 HM2, or a .22 Magnum over a .22 LR.

I'm more fond of .38 special and .380. They'll penetrate the skull and/or make a mess of what's inside.

9MM and .45ACP are great hole creation rounds, but I'd think that would be overkill for the target in question.

I'm with you, but I don't necesarrily believe in "Overkill" in this type of situation. You never know when you'll have to kill a human who's attacking you.

Personally I'd go with something chambered in .40 S&W.

Yes, for a light, powerful weapon it's pretty good. It can kill by getting into the head. and destroying the brain. Though it looses power after a while. You'd have to hit in either the temple, the nasal cavity, or the eyes to be marginally gaurenteed entry.

I'm wondering if one of these would penetrate a skull. My rifle is a 1000fps rifle, and it's pretty quiet. If this can penetrate, I'll use it. I've seen it penetrate a champagne bottle, through-and-through, and next cow skull I find I'm gonna give it a test. If it works... I'll let you guys know. Anybody have any thoughts?

One of the main reasons I don't think .22lr is sufficient in the case of an outbreak.

Also, rimfires aren't very reliable in my experience. The last thing I'd want is to have a squib or FTE that requires a butter knife and 5 minutes to clear.

Other than putting the eyes out, I wouldn't risk my chances on an air gun round.

That is, unless it's one of those antique hunting rifles that were developed in the 19th century. Lewis and Clark carried a couple of large caliber compressed air guns that could take down a wild boar or deer. I also seem to recall that Austria had a contract for a military repeating air rifle a full century before Mauser produced the first practical bolt action rifle.

But a .177 or .22 air gun pellet isn't going to do more than cosmetic damage.

Perhaps if it was fired out of a 1,300 fps rated air rifle, and then again those are with the .22 "bb's".

I'd prefer some good ol' Winchester 300 mag. Zombies, people, engine blocks, bears, robots, and aliens; I'd have it all covered.

Good call making it plural. XD

Oh man, the sporting goods store a block away from me stocks it too... The guy at the counter let me hold a round... It was awesome! And then I bought a black mask, a steel helmet, duct tape, and gloves. I wonder if they will still sell me a gun...

So I grabbed my .22 and missed every time! gonk
