(( An RP between my two characters. ))
Nissa lay in the den, a pout on her face and eyes narrowed. She hated this! She hated being cooped up in this dark, dismal place, trapped by her mother lying in front of the entrance.
She sighed, looked down at her paws, dark claws unsheathed from their little places in her toes. One day when she was bigger, she wouldn't let anyone get in her way. Not her mother, not her 'father' nor any of her siblings, though she was fonder of them than most.
No, once she was big and strong she was out of here and she was never coming back.
Her mother stirred and she tensed, looking up at Ivie's shadow in the dark.
The inexperienced mother stretched and opened her eyes, blinking blearily around the den at her children. Her beautiful children. They were all so wonderful, though they were not Fedha's.
She paused, wondering briefly about Dharba and where he was. She sighed. He was such a kindly lion, so sweet-natured. She had been like that once. When she had been a cub she would never have dreamed of being so sneaky and manipulative.
Her eyes settled on Nissa and she couldn't help but scowl a little. "Sleep, now. You've had a long day."

Nissa hissed, curling her forepaws across her chest and regarding her mother with a scowl. She loved her mother, she knew that, but she also hated her, hated her for the way she was treated.
"I'm not tired and I'll sleep when I want." She huffed, twitching her tail with frustration. Then, slowly, trying to break off the heavy atmosphere, Nissa decided to ask a question of her mother. "Why do you chase that lion, mum?"
"You wouldn't understand. You're still too little to know the feeling of love between male and female, of the bond that joins them and keeps them together." Ivie sighed dreamily. "It is a connection that maybe you will share when you come of age."
She halted Nissa's words with a raised paw. "Because even though you think you are grown up, you are far from it, Nissa."

"Love?" Nissa wasn't sure what she had seen today, pass between Ivie and Fedha, but she was sure as hell that it wasn't love. What was wrong with her mother? Didn't she realise she was chasing nothing but flitting dreams, dreams that were too fast and too faded to ever be caught?
She scowled. "Mother, you don't know anything about love."
Ivie growled, ears flattening, teeth bared. She had tried her best to be a good mother, tried her best to protect them and keep them safe. Sadly she had gone about it all wrong.
She was suffocating them, wrapping them in cottonwool.
Besides, her cubs had only ever been tools for winning Fedha's heart and that plan seemed to have gone terribly wrong now.
"You are a young fool Nissa just as I am an old fool."

That was the problem. Mother and daughter were too much alike. They were both stubborn and strong-willed. They were determined young females, desperate to get what they wanted.
Ivie wanted her male.
Nissa wanted her freedom.
And as of now, neither of them seemed able to get what they wanted.
"He doesn't love you mum. I could see it in his eyes. Your lies won't work on him."
Ivie was on her feet, snarling and growling like a thing possessed.
"How dare you!" Her chest heaved with the pangs of the truth of Nissa's words, though she would never admit it. "You watch your mouth! Don't talk to your mother like that!"
"He will love me. He will."

"No he won't! You're deluded!" She hissed, getting to her feet and stomping a paw against the ground. "And, if he's not our father, then who is? Just some random male you happened to trick into mating with you?"
She sneered.
"Yes, I know how cubs come about. How could you let a stranger do that to you just so you can force a male into loving you?"
"How dare you!" Ivie stepped threateningly towards her daughter, tail swishing violently to and fro. "Who your father is doesn't matter. Is it wrong to try and get what I want?" Do I not deserve a bit of happiness? She thought.
She hissed and without thinking, struck out, striking a blow across Nissa's head.

They'd had argumetns before but no matter how heated they got, Ivie had never swung for her! Nissa couldn't believe it, her face was a picture of shock.
Her head burned where she had been struck.
Then the shock turned to anger and Nissa could feel it bubblin through her veins like molten lava. "You'll regret that." She hissed. "You're nothing but a whore! A lying whore! I won't lie for you anymore. If I see Fedha again, I'll tell him the truth." She hissed.
Riddled with guilt and anger, Ivie stepped aside, her body trembling at her daughter's words. They were true, though, very true, but she would never admit it, not in front of her daughter.
"Get out....GET OUT!!" And her tone was not to be argued with.
The green, petite lioness could be terrifying if she wanted to be.

Nissa hesitated for a second, and then, with tears in her eyes she fled the den and didn't stop. not until the den was far out of sight and the scent of her mother out of her nose.
She collapsed in the dirt, tired and angry, and wept until she trembled with fatigue. Then, she curled up and waited, waited for the pain in her chest to go away.
Ivie, heavy with guilt, slumped at the entrance of her den, shaking now that the anger was leaving her. She felt bad, but then she remembered Nissa's cold words and knew she was within her rights to punish her.
Besides, Nissa would be okay, she was strong. She was sturdy and stubborn and fierce.
She was like her mother.
And that, of course, was part of the problem.
