Well, the topic is rather foreign to me, due to my very recent introduction to most any music whatsoever... sweatdrop I do like the old opening to Death Note... (Not the new, so much, though) Older Version. heart b

Japanese Music genres especially the above mentioned are almost the same if compared (although some artists and bands are exceptions). You must also remember that not all J-pop and J-rock artists end up having anime theme songs, a fine example would be Number Girl. I have moods, sometimes I would go for Mikuni Shimokawa (Artist who sung for Full Metal Panic, Gensoumaden Saiyuki), Mika Nakashima(said to be under Jazz category but still has pop elements). Sometimes I wouldn't prefer listening to the cookie cutter voices, being all high pitched, namely Ayumi Hamasaki, Utada Hikaru, Round Table feat. Nino.
Some may think J-rock as just V-kei and the like, giving that gloomy aura and gender bending appearance but it also isnt always the case. You have alternative rock like Sambomaster(the vocalist always gives me an image of Jack Black if he were japanese xD) My list could go on and will probably take a few days to finish... So I guess I'll suggest Asian Kung-fu Generation. besides Haruka Kanata, Rewrite, and Flashback they have a whole pile of awesome tracks
