UPDATE!!
- All of the Yugioh Reprint volumes can be bought cheaply with free(?) worldwide shipping at www.yesasia.com! they are my new best friend. They should be yours too.

For those who may or may not know, Yugioh was recently re-published in Japan with new and different cover art. This would be well an good, almost uneventful, if not for one notable change:

Takahashi learned to draw.

I'm sure that everyone is in just as much shock and awe/horror as I am, and undoubtedly many questions arise.

Did Takahashi actually get exponentially better as an artist?
Did he hire someone to color/ draw the covers for him?
If he actually CAN draw now, why did he learn AFTER yugioh ended?
Could Takahashi actually draw beforehand, but was just lazy/rushed/thought it would be funny to draw poorly?
Was it because of all his free time to slack off that he actually practiced drawing?
If he didn't draw the cover art, why didn't he just hire someone to draw his people from the start?

Clearly, there is much to be asked, and even more to be answered. Your thoughts/questions?

This is WTF worthy. Of course, my computer is having a hard drive attack so I can not actually see these covers, but regardless.

Where on Janime? I know that he's making YuGiOh R and that GX is a manga now.

But his style has changed a lot since the first chapter of YGO, though his ugly people are still very ugly. I miss the old Yami, actually. I really liked the creepy thing he had going on!

first two are up. Images of the others are embedded into the Janime site. Oh well. At least I'll know what to look for at all the future cons.

I don't like the first cover reprint, but the others look really good. It's like a total revamp of book covers! But it's not a complete switch to realism, which is really nice. I couldn't stand that hair in realism... Yuugi still looks like a dork though.

In general symbolism, nakedness is a sign of purity.

I can see the fundamentals of cover design on all these pics. They all have at least one thing in common [not counting characters and numbers and whatnot], but it's there every time. The last cover bends the rules a little bit, but the same basic principle is still present.

It all has to do with "leading the eye", ooo~
