Lefika sat at the edge of a cliff, overlooking the sea. She watched as the waves rippled and twisted and crashed into the rocks below. She observed all the artistic curves and sways. It was like the ocean was dancing. Yes, the ocean was very passionate today.
As for herself, Lefika was troubled. It had been several weeks since her son had left to find himself. It had only taken Lefika a few days to find her muse. She knew it would take Sepoko much longer, Sepoko was always so repressed. But... she hadn't been apart from her youngest son for so long since he was born. Sepoko was anxious, timid, and self-sacrificing to a fault. He wasn't a fighter, and he didn't have much self confidence to go on either. Would he be able to make it on his own?
In doubt, Lefika turned her eyes to the sky for guidance. A cloud shifted, letting warm light fall down onto her face. Don't worry about it, it seemed to say. She sighed. "I know," she told the sky. "But I cannot help myself."
Dropping her head, she returned to watching the dance of the ocean. Passionate seas... passionate seas probably meant change was coming...

Lefika heard the other approaching from far, far away, but she paid him no mind. It wasn't her business to tell creatures where they could and could not go, and these were open and free lands. She would continue of going about her business communing with the sky, and she would let the traveler go about his or her own business as well.
As it turned out, though, the traveler decided to make it their business to accompany Lefika on her rocky perch. She made no move to greet or shoo her newfound company, felt no need to acknowledge them in any way. If they wanted her attention, they would ask for it, and if they wanted to be left well alone, they would remain quiet, and that would be that. From the corner of her eye she saw an interestingly olive-toned young male take his place just behind and diagonal to her. Then he spoke, and finally she rolled her head back to glance at him. "Indeed," she agreed. "She is in top form today, but I fear the old girl may be bracing herself to weep upon the wide world. Look." She pointed at the horizon, where clouds gray as her own eyes gathered. "Her eyelids droop." She shook her head. "I hate it when she cries, but she does it to nourish us all. It is her sacrifice." With that, she returned her eyes to the sky.

He was staring. He was staring, quite decisively and obviously, at Lefika. What manner of staring was this? In return, the stoic lioness shot a blank stare right back. It wasn't a glaring, and it wasn't questioning, it was merely analyzing, trying to size the boy up. He was skittish and nervous for sure, and he didnt' say much for himself. Polite he was, yes, but stiflingly so, and far too reserved for his own good and his own age. Lefika sniffed and nodded, bowing her head a little in greeting. "A pleasure," she told him, but did not return her own name. A name was a precious thing, not to be given freely to just anyone who walked by. If he wanted her name, he would ask for it proper. With that, her eyes returned to sky watching and meditation as long as the nervous, infatuated young boy behind her would allow.
