Tope was ready physically... he was tough and already diffrent looking in body form than his father. The pudge that had started to form-was now muscle and lean... strong. He had to be strong... things to come-made him strong. He had worked at building his strength, integrity, skill... everything so that-he could protect her...
The one he loved.
He lay now, exausted from his latest 'work out'-sweat slickening his fur. He was panting, his front legs stretched out as the rested in the small shallow pool of water-a trait he learned from his mother. He was mentally prepared to full-fill the deed his mate wanted so badly...
He was ready. But there were things he wanted to do before he left...

Like Tope, Jini had been training. However, her training had involved stalking prey, hunting and creeping. Every morning she would rise, track the herds and pick out an antelope as her victim.
Somedays she failed miserably and alerted the herds so that she couldn't catch a thing. Other days the hunger would drive her to make that kill. Sometimes, if she were lucky, she'd catch one on a day where her belly didn't need filling and she'd release the startled antelope back to it's herd.
She'd stand and watch it join the others, feeling powerful in the fact that she had given the simple creature a second chance at life.
She was becoming good. A little too good, in fact.
Even her limp didn't hinder her now. She had learned that speed didn't matter. That in fact, it was being silent, working with one as the wind.
Today, as she rose from the den to seek out her mate, she felt the gnaw of hunger at her insides.
She would hunt for food today and maybe Tope would join her.
She parted her jaws and called to him, a low, affectionate grunt that carried a fair distance despite it not being a full-blown roar.

Tope felt the cool water making his chest and mane heavy. He was getting used to his new look, but there was still a major resemblance to his father. He sighed, a smile across his lips. How he missed his father and mother. How is mother used to whisper to him and his siblings in the night... How wonderful of a father Umo really was. Tope could not help but feel-horrible for the deeds that happened.. for hurting his father-and soon... hopefully before he died... he'd see them again. Perhaps...
He heard a familiar sound and responded with his own deep call. He stood up, feeling the water leach down his legs. He began to pad to where he call came from-from the den that she and he shared.. that would shelter a family one day... hopefully. He sighted her and quickened his pace.
"Ah. It is truely a beautiful day onces my lady steps into the sun"" He said, stepping up in front of her and giving her an affectionate kiss.

Her heart jumped to life at Tope's amswering call and immediately she quickened her pace. She met him with a purr, leaning into his muzzle with her own, touching with a tender kiss. Oh how happy he made her!
"You flatter me." She laughed, rubbing her side against his and thwapping him gently against the cheek with her tail tuft. She half turned backon herself to gaze at him with her vibrant eyes.
"I wanted to ask if you felt up for a spot of hunting. I'm about to go myself and could use the companyof a handsome young male like yourself." She smiled playfully.

Tope had matured greatly since they had first left the pridelands that night. He had also taken to talking poetically-romantically-for his Jini brought light upon his once meager existence. HIs pink eyes searched the area around them as their bodies contacted. Oh his beautiful Jini. How she took his breath away.
I think that is a splendid Idea Love." He said, butting her softly with his head. Though he was large and such-he still was not as sure footed and fast to catch large prey, not without her.
"Only if you promise to not laugh at me"

And his matured look had not gone unnoticed. Without him, Jini would have barely even realised that she was an adult. Yet looking into his strongly defined, adult face she knew they were grown. Knew they were older.
"I would never laugh at you. Besides, hunting is a woman's speciality." She winked at him. "I'll teach you the tricks. I've been practicing so much recently I feel like I could do it with my eyes closed!"
She purred, linked tails with him and tugged him in the right direction. "At this time of the day the herds are usually wallowing in the mud by the waterhole." It wasn't the best of locations for them to be, open land, the mud making things difficult, but if they failed they'd get a drink at least.
"Things have moved so fast, haven't they? Seemed like only yesterday when we were just cubs." She sighed. "Things could have been so different if I hadn't met you. But I suppose fate has a way of pulling us in the right direction." She purred, tucked her head against his mane.

Tope basked in JIni's attention. She had grown from a playful little girl into a lithe and stunning female. Not only could Tope not keep his eyes off her but-he could not keep his heart off from her as well. He recalled seeing her for the first time-just a small girl and back then-he really didn't like them all that well-but now... he loved her with his whole heart.
"You'd laugh at me... I know you would." He said with a laugh, nudging her with his pink eyes shut in glee. I don't doubt you. It seems to me that your shoulder has been getting better as well... you do not limp as badly."
He simply followed her, oblivious tot he fact that he would have gone in the wrong direction if she had not directed him justly. "I was just thinking about that-when we were young... did I tell you one of my younger brothers is here with us-in the Kusini? HIs name is Pya... he reminded me of how old we really are...

"You'll do wonderfully." Jini replied, moving gracefully but slowly. She wasn never truly in a rush. Her training had taught her patience, the gift of taking your time. Besides, calming herself down had indeed helped with her arthritus.
"It does feel better. But it might be because I've not wandered out into rogue lands recently." She sighed. "Sometimes I do miss travelling, but I'm lucky to have a home here, too."
"He is? Maybe you should introduce us." She chirped. "It would be lovely to meet another of your family members. What brings them here? Are your family no longer at the swamplands?"
She laughed. "Oh Tope, we're only as old as we feel. I don't feel old especially when I'm with you. We're only old when we're seeing our kids', kids' having children." She smiled happily. "Can you imagine being great grandparents?" She giggled.

Tope gazed into the distance. He had never really enjoyed traveling around. If he had been raised in the swamplands-he'd still be there-happy... to be in one place. He turned and smiled to her, yes... lucky to have a home... Tope felt a small pang of pain in his chest-his parents would have a definite home if Tope had not been born. He sighed, looking back to her contently. I will run it by him... if i see him around. I think he is here for a female-how ironic... came here for a woman... thats unheard of huh?"He said with a teasing smile.
The thoughts of being grandparents stirred odd thoughts... and apparently-by his brothers words... Umo and Kika were already grandparents... he imagined his father with a grandchild... and a smile crossed his face. Cubs... I think Cubs should come before grandcubs... silly.
I'll feel old indeed-when children are brought into the world.... speaking of which... that mission we have-with the firekin... when.. do you think we shall venture to them?

"So you come from a family of romantics, huh?" She teased lightly, ears twitching thoughtfully. "And yes, I guess cubs do come first, don't they?" She smiled. "I wonder what it would like to be a mother? I think we'd make pretty good parents." And she honestly did. Parenthood was something she always fancied having an attempt at. She wanted to have cubs to pass on her mother's legacy. To ensure that Kiburi was never forgotten.
At Tope's words on the Firekin she automatically slowed her step lowering her voice. Not that anyone would hear them or anything. She just preferred to keep it hush, hush. If anyone found out they might try to stop her and she just couldn't do that.
"I think I'm almost ready." She replied. "I don't have to be fast, I just have to be silent. If I can manage that can take my revenge." She replied. "The last thing left to do is get directions, after that we'll make our way there. To be honest I'm worried about the journey rather than the deed. I've never crossed a desert before...but my mother did. And if she can then I can." She nodded firmly.
"Look, there they are." She began to lower herself, slinking into the grass with the precison of a shark. Her eyes fixed, her goal in sight. "Would you like to do the chasing, love?" She asked in a hushed voice.

Tope listened and tried to imagine he-a father... little cubs running around... hopefully both their traits would pass onto them. He knew that when his siblings were born-his father and mother were estatic that Umo's marks came through on each one-but this new brother-Pya... he was unique... so who knew. He hoped Jini passed on something from her mother...
"Directions Huh? No one I know has any clue either-but I recall my Father speaking of them once or twice-no directions... just passive talking. But I am sure we can find someone to point us in the direction... and... We will make it Jini. Your heart desires this so much-that even if we start to die out there-your soul would last longer than mine-this I am certain."He said.
He lifted his head and spotted the animals they were to hunt. He smiled-nodding his head. That was one thing he could do very well... his speed and strength were way better than his agility and his lithe. He started to step foreward, slowly-quietly... towards the prey.

"I'm sure we'll be able to. A desert can't be too hard to find, right?" She smiled lovingly, glad that she wouldn't be making that journey alone.
Then, seeing him agree to the chase she gave him an affectionate nuzzle and moved to take her place. She lowered her body, crawled forwards, barely even stirring the grass. When she did, she froze and lowered her body, waiting for the prey to settle again before continuing.
After what seemed like an age, Jini had finally made her way to the perfect pouncing spot. She lay at the crest of a rise in the ground, hidden by tall, yellowing grass that covered all but the tips of her ears.
Now she would lie still and wait for Tope to make his move. She'd find her target and bring it down.
Suddenly, she was ravenous.

Tope nodded. A desert, big yellow sand dune place right. Dry... no water... yeah... he was sure he could find one... but he was a bit scared. He wasn't used to dry... he liked wet... but he'd adjust. He'd be there for a short while-get what was to be done done and return... back to here-or where ever Jini wanted... He sighed, blinking his pink eyes slowly. "We will do fine He said assuringly.
Suddenly, the hunt was on and Tope knew his part. He was the bulk, tackle, break legs, bring down and hold but he had to catch up with the prey. He started forward slowly, his muscles tight. One step closer each time-he could smell success... He could feel the burn of his sinew-wanting to spring... He spotted a younger prey... not so sure about itself and wandering a bit off from the others... it was his target.
He was off, legs moving at intense speed. If only his father could see him.

She lay there, posied, her back legs quivering as she tried to hold herself put. And then she saw Tope making his move. He was large, stocky and graceful, full of strength and splendour.
Oh he was wonderful.
Her heart soared and she raised her head slightly, peering over the grass to watch him.
The herd caught sight of him and began to move, their hooves trampling thunder into the earth. Some of the herd headed towards her and regaining her focus she pressed herself to the earth, waiting for the perfect moment to strike...

Tope headed forward, his pink eyes spotting those creatures heading towards Jini's hiding place. He smiled, leaping into the air and coming down with a thud, pounding the earth with his large feet, stiring up dust as he let loose a roar. "Come on you beasts..." He shouted, his brown mane ruffling in the breeze. He had to be stronger-faster... if they were to go to the firekin and do what they must-he had to protect Jini...
He was her lifeline as she was his now. He had no family to turn too... only her... forever. He caught up to one of the creatures and attempted to toss his front end on its hindquarters, to see if he was strong enough to do the deed himself... but was jumbled off and continued to chase it...
It took two to tango
