(1) Problems being experienced with posting the dragons
First, let me say this topic is for information only. This is not to point any fingers at anyone at all! I just want to make everyone aware of some current situations and problems we are encountering with our dragon eggs and hatchlings. With that all said, here I go...
The Incubator thread here in the Lair guild was started as a means to help bring our eggs safely to adulthood when the Gaia image glitch started. For the most part, although we've lost a few eggs, the thread has been successful. And it's one of the more active threads here in the guild.
Recently, we are running into some problems. First, there is an increasing amount of eggs and hatchlings "coming down to the wire" in reaching maturity, ie, having 2 days or less. This has caused some panic in getting these eggs and hatchlings posted around different threads and guilds to assure their reaching maturity (hatching or becoming an adult). Second, there seems to be more and more soft shell eggs and sick hatchlings.
The intent of the Incubator thread is for all of us, especially those who post eggs and hatchlings there, to pull together and help each other get adult dragons. We've got 90+ members in this guild and, to date, we've had over 7,000 posts. This is an amazing statistic when you compare this to the DragCave Guild with its 400+ members and only 400-600 more posts than our total posts. So, we should not be having this many problems getting our eggs and hatchlings to maturity.
To help "endangered" eggs and hatchlings, several of us have been going above and beyond the call of duty. Umrae, Kimmiora, bd004 (aka Arrie Warclaw), Aldora, Scubaso, and I (if I left out anyone, my profound apologies!!!) have taken these eggs and hatchlings around to different threads and guilds to get them the necessary clicks and views to save them. It is not our responsibility to babysit your eggs. We've done this in spirit of camaraderie to our guild members. We are happy to keep an eye on the dragons but, when we have over 20 scrolls and people with 4 or more babies, this becomes a difficult task. Additionally, there has been an increasing number of endangered eggs and hatchlings in the past two weeks.
One of the resources we use to help these endangered babies is the Sanctuary post in the DragCave guild where several of us are also members. It is set up similar to our Incubator post but has MANY more eggs and hatchlings (takes me about 10 minutes to get through clicking there). However, even there the Sanctuary is experiencing problems due to its enormous volume of eggs and hatchlings, recently prompting this post...
Quote: Lokumun Wrote: Current status: FULL!! Limit yourself to two or three dragons at a time per person, less is better. The sanct is overflowing --PF13
What does this mean?
(1) One of the main resources we use outside of our guild to save endangered eggs and hatchlings was recently unavailable. This status in the Sanctuary has been fluctuating between "hitting the limit" and "full." When the status is "FULL," no new eggs or hatchlings are accepted until the status changes.
(2) If you get an egg or rescue an abandoned, you can continue to post them in the Incubator thread. But, EVERYONE must help to these babies. Go to the first post on this thread. Click the scrolls and click the eggs and hatchlings. We're all in this together... that's the purpose of the Incubator thread. Just reminder, continue to post your eggs on the Incubator thread - not here. This thread is a discussion thread only.
(3) According to the Aesop fable, "The gods help them who help themselves." If you're willing to go through the trouble of stealing eggs and saving abandoned ones, then you also need to post those eggs in other threads, such in the Forums, Chatterbox, other guilds, etc. This will greatly increase your chances of getting those eggs hatched. You can either post your babies in the text of the messages you write or in your signature. If you do post them in your sig, be sure to check them periodically as this can lead to soft shells or sick hatchlings. Beady is constantly shifting her eggs and hatchlings in and out of her sig to prevent these problems.
(4) On a personal note, I don't try to get any eggs if I know of a planned vacation or event that is going to keep me away from my computer for a couple of days or longer (like when I visit my Mom in Mexico or the upcoming trip to visit my older son in Florida at the end of this month). I judge the amount of time to get my eggs to adulthood. Granted if I have unexpected problems occur, I contact a few folks to help me out.
If any of you have anything happen that prevents you from giving your eggs/hatchlings the attention they need, let us know in the Incubator thread. We'll do whatever we can to help out. However, in the meantime, while we're doing this, do not get any more eggs. Or else, we'll start having the same problems they are having at the Sanctuary - too many eggs and hatchlings to watch over.
(5) If anyone else has any more ideas, please post them here in this thread. Any and all help is greatly appreciated!
Thanks for your cooperation and your patience in reading this very long post!

(2) Other helpful ideas for your dragons
a. "Walk" your dragons around Gaia. Place your dragon eggs or babies in your signature and then post around. Chatterbox has many, many bumping threads (see below post for suggested threads). You could also place your dragons within your post. Many folks here have very decorative message posts which include their dragons. Some simply copy them in at the end of their messages.
BENEFITS - This helps you get some clicks and views, especially those elusive "Unique Views" needed to help your dragon grow and stay well.
b. At the end of each Infirmary post (second post in the "Incubator" thread), there is now a "Dragon Walking" aka "Walkies" (per Beady) section (thanks for this suggestion, Umrae and Beady!). These includes all the eggs and babies which are inside the 2-day countdown or are sick. I update the Infirmary each morning (look for the day and time at the top of the post). I also try to do a late evening/night update, sometimes editing the "Dragon Walking/Walkies" section. In this case, you'll see an EDITED message above this section.
Updates are also posted within the "Incubator" thread text and in Tree's "Dragon Lair" Chatterbox thread. There are several guild members who copy and paste the "Dragon Walking/Walkies" group and travel or walk them through Chatterbox. I've recognized these helpful folks in the "Incubator" as dragon walkers. If you want to help, or have helped, walking the babies, please feel free to do so. And if I haven't recognized your efforts, please PM me!
BENEFITS - This helps you get some clicks, views, and unique views. This also helps other guild members. Remember, we're all in this together!
c. Using the Random Sig Generator is another way to show off your eggs and babies in your signature (thanks for this suggestion, Ultimate Dragon Momma aka Maha). Click the link and make an account. Then put in the codes for your eggs and babies (not sure if it takes both the Tiny URL or the BBC codes).
Using the Random Sig Generator, you can get all your dragons in your sig without having to worry about Gaia's URL limit. However, you do lose the "click" ability on your dragons because you have to use the second URL in the code. Also, you will not get an equal amount number of views on all your dragons, but it does work.
BENEFITS - This helps you get some views and unique views.

Yes, yes Willa! I know I personally had a learning curve on quite how much work is involved in getting these little dragons to grow up. I think I'm going to restrict myself to 2 at a time for a while, they'll both fit in my signature that way, and much safer. I know I REALLY appreciate the help I've gotten along the way, cause you guys saved my little eggies. So part of my ritual is clicking everyone's eggs every day (currently waiting on like 5 tabs to get a response from dragcave, apparently the site's being bombarded again). And that brings me to my thought. Didn't know what people's methods were for checking all the dragons out, but right-click and open in new tab is WONDERFUL! You don't lose where you are, and don't have to wait on dragcave while you read posts. I figure most people are already doing something like that, but just in case, anyone not using it, try it! biggrin
