Does anybody know of any single-stack pistols that might be suitable for CCW? I know Walther made the PPS in several calibers, the 1911 is a single-stack IIRC, but .45 is a bit manly for me. Anything in .22 is single-stack, but that's the other end of the spectrum. I'd prefer 9mm or maybe a bit bigger, but .40 is pushing it. I know there's quite a few 9mm single-stacks, but I have no idea what they are. Anybody know?

Kahr Arms is on one end of the spectrum. They make high quality sing-stacks for CCing.

Of course, there's always the Kel-Tec PF-9.

Bersa makes a 9mm pistol, as well.

And then there's always this if you're willing to step down to a .380.

Whoops, mah bad.

I think it was either a Kel-tec P3AT or a Bersa Thunder.
They're both in the same price range, at about $230-300 depending on who's selling it to you.

A proffessional review can be found here and here, for the P3AT and Bersa Thunder respectively.

They both seemed to be fairly decent.

I was going to suggest a Mak, but good quality HP ammunition is difficult to come by, atleast in my area.
And, to top it off, I'm sure that reloading would bring up legal problems if you actually had to use it on someone.

why would it bring up legal problems?

I love my mak biggrin

I had some really decent Hornedy XTP for it at one point. and the silver bear stuff isnt bad. I'd stick withe Hornedy XTP for carry though.

It's generally because if they sue, or their family, then they'll find out that you manufactured "extra-deadly ammo".

What, and you plan to have me execute lethal force with "slightly less deadly ammo"?

If it could be the difference between life in prison and/or millions of dollars being a byproduct of you getting sued, then yes.

Lawyers can make anyone's life a living hell in court.

For example, one lawyer could make the point that if you are knowingly using hollow point bullets in your home defense weapon, you are intentionally attempting to maim the criminal who has broken in and threatened your welfare in a way that exceeds the need.

Glad I don't live in a state where people have issues like that.

Back on topic, since I own and am delighted with my Bersa Thunder .380, I can recommend it without reservation. While a short tactical rail would have been nice, I can always move up to the new .45ACP model.

Yeah, by all means, a good lawyer's a good lawyer.

I'm just saying that it'll be much easier to defend that handloading can be "extra-deadly", which I'm not going to dispute.

I'm just saying, if I'm gonna use deadly force, I'm gonna be using the deadliest ******** force I can get my hands on. If I shoot him and he DOESN'T go down, life is suddenly much worse for me than it was ten seconds previously.

good lord....

I've never had issues defending my use of HP ammo... generally... the judge hearing the case is former LEO, or Deputy... so they have an ounce of common sense.
