So, what do you think?
  I love that guy!
  Ugh, I hate him!
I don't know who that is.
I know who he is, but I don't care one way or the other.

I'm curious. How do you guys feel about Barack Obama?

A lot of people say he's a Muslim (though he's actually a Christian, he just has a Muslim background) and they're scared by that. They shouldn't be, but everyone's still on edge after 9/11. I'm sorry that my country is like that. I'm not, so don't be offended, please.

So I just want to know what you guys think of him, if you have an opinion at all. Personally, I like him a lot. I don't care what religion he is, because your religious views don't really determine whether you'll be a good leader or not.

(P.S., Barack Obama is the democratic nominee for the presidential election this November in the United States.)

psht. i think he's too naive when it comes to foreign policy. as my life is going to be directly affected by his choices (i'm in the army) i'm not too pleased about him.

I don't see why anyone is scared by his Muslim background except the ultra-Christian nutbags.

He's supposed to be bringing people home from Iraq, so wouldn't that actually work out well for you?

But yeah, people are just still paranoid. They shouldn't be, but they are.

just because he wants to bring people home doesn't mean it will be executed correctly. I'd like for all of us to leave, but a 6-month withdrawal is too short [it was a short time, i can't remember the exact time]

IF we leave too quickly, we raise serious concerns about civil war + religious cleansing+ genocide. people are waaaaaaaaaay too picky about ethnic backgrounds over there, pisses the hell outta me.

I'd rather clean up a mess than let it ferment and get worse. We didn't take care of Afghanistan after completely assisting the Afghanis in fighting the Soviets, and look at the situation there now. I'm not saying we could have prevented 9/11, like a bajillion conspiracy threads seem to talk about, but I think we really just need to actually sit tight at and take care of what damage what was done. I'm tired of loose ends becoming knots and pains in the a**. North Korea is another fine example.

I'll never be into politics since you pretty much HAVE to lie to get the people to favor you. I favor with Obama abit more than McCain but really I'm not gonna be voting and I know both sides will screw the world over in SOME way.

Because one vote won't change much, And I think Obama would make a good leader yet I don't wanna vote incase that person is not the same as I thought.
I'll be thinking to myself "I voted for this guy?" I mean really, Republicans favor Rich folks while Democratics favor the poor and the majority of the people. Which is one of the reasons I would favor Democratic, But it's just I don't like either parties and such.

Ratri: I understand your concern... but it's sixteen months, not six. So that's one year and four months.
http://youtube.com/watch?v=e2WS0kiX5Os

John McCain, on the other hand, hasn't seemed very concerned at all about bringing the troops home.

Given that these are the only two choices... I think I would be on Obama's side, especially if I were in the army. But your opinion is your own.

Dark: I hope so, too.

Haydar: It's fine, a lot of people don't like politics. But I've always been a firm believer of "If you don't vote, you can't complain." So, even if you like neither of the candidates, you should at least try to vote for the lesser of two evils. That's what most elections come down to anyway. And one vote can change a lot.

Yeah it is true but really, I won't be able to vote till the next election anyway (Turning 18 next year) so as such I can't vote anyway. Now I suppose I would vote for Obama but I don't like being involved as much as some people.

Oh. Wow, turning 18 after this is gonna be anti-climactic.
I turned 18 in May, so this will be the first election I'll vote in.
But if you're not even of age yet, the voting-rule doesn't apply.

Oh don't be surprised, I think being 18 to vote is ridiculous since they allow 16 year olds like myself drive which of course causes more problems. I'm just stating if I were 18 I wouldn't vote or who I would vote for.

Yes, it is messed up that you're old enough to take a life through a driving accident but not old enough to choose a leader... I'd rather they raise the driving age than lower the voting age, though.

But if you're 18 and still don't vote, thennnn... no complaining later if you don't like the results. ;P That's all I'm saying.

A year? No, that's too short. when I'm talking about naive, that is what I am referring to. McCain has real military experience...sure he was a squid, but at least he knows the hell of battle and the cost of war better than anyone else in this gig.
Obama doesn't. Would it be nice to leave in 16 months? hell yes. practical? no. We can't even put in stability in the region and we've been there...how long? Leaving the mess the way it is...will only increase the casulties. Military History has taught me alot, and if there's one thing the US really needs to learn that the Brits found out at a high price is this: always clean up your messes. We should have done it the same way we dealt the nazis. Only take out a select group of people in power, not take out the whole damn police force and army and attempt to rebuild it from the ground up. The war was messed up from the start when politicians refused to listen to the military, pleading for them to NOT GO into Iraq. This is what happens when you get politicians that don't know the cost of war. They don't know what it's like to serve and have strategy. Instead they burst in, expecting to be praised like heroes. We're not going to be cheered if we leave in 16 months. More like jeered for not fixing everything. Obama sees the world in rosey-colored glasses, and that's what bothers me the most---lack of experience. Just because the guy wants to get me out faster doesn't mean he's any good at getting me out quickly and in a whole piece. I don't want to rush out, just to lose my leg. It's like going through a minefield...one must travel carefully. And slowly.

I understand... but between 16 months and 100 years, I'd much rather be out in 16 months. I'm not in the military, so my opinion might not be the same just for that reason. My cousin's husband died in Iraq, though, and it seems... meaningless to me, by now. I mean, I understand that it would be best if we could fix everything and be seen as heroes. But is that going to happen? I think the Iraqi people would just be happier if we left all together.

Are any of you guys in Iraq? Maybe you can offer me some more insight into this.

P.S.
Ratri, your signature is too funny. XD
