In the end, we shall all end up as dust – yes, even you, my brother. But are you really foolish enough to think that will be the end of existence?

Known among Cainites for millennia as the "Clan of Death," the Cappadocians are shunned even by their brethren for their macabre interests. Cappadocius himself was an iconoclastic priest in life, and continued his search for the secrets of life, death and what lay beyond after his Becoming. His childer have continued his research, and through their efforts Cainites have learned much about the nature of their existence. Still, the secretive nature of the clan has caused as many people to fear them as respect them. In vampire society, Cappadocians often fill the role of advisers to the leaders of a sect. They are respected for their insight and wisdom, and largely trusted due to their lack of interest in earthly power.

Death is more than the end of life;
it is a rebirth.
To wax poetical is fruitless
and to garner the temporal is folly.
The curse of the blood bears a barb as wicked as any scimitar
for even in death the answers be speak more questions.
We know the pain of being dead
and yet still dying

Nickname:: Grave robbers
Culture:: The one word that sums up the old clan is "passive." The Cappadocians had their own projects and plans, and generally focused on those while ignoring the larger affairs of the world. Blessed with an unusually active Antediluvian and a generally placid nature, the Cappadocians were much less concerned about Gehenna, political backstabbing and the other niceties of undead life. This, of course, made them natural targets for the Giovanni. They were well-known for partnering with the Ventrue, often serving as stewards or aides to Ventrue Princes. In this fashion, a Cappadocian could acquire what resources and protection he needed to pursue his own projects.
The Cappadocians were also highly religious, and would often adapt Christian religious practices, even if Embraced before Christianity. As a result, there were a large number of Cappadocian monks, priests and the like. The Islamic Cappadocians were known as Qabilat al-Mawt, and were among the most learned of the kindred of the Middle East. The Qabilat al-Mawt had to be careful in their studies of the dead as Islam holds the dead in high regard; desecration of corpses could have attracted the attention of both mortals and the Ashirra, or organized Islamic kindred. Very few Qabilet al-Mawt were also true Muslims; many used the Islamic teachings as one of many means of information
Organization:: The Cappadocians maintained a rather collegial organization: the clan was generally friendly towards each other, but loosely organized. Cappadocians would correspond extensively on their work, but generally were solitary, with sire-childe relationships being the most common. The clan had respected elders, but given the generally loose structure of the clan, clan prestige and power was mostly associated with insight into the mysteries of death and life.
Embraces:: Cappadocians usually choose scholars or other intellectuals for the Embrace. The clan's morbid predilections meant that they often desensitized new embraces by burying them or interring them in crypts shortly after the change. In this way, the childe could acquire first-hand familiarity with death.

Early History
Unique among the Antediluvians, Cappadocius viewed the Embrace as a unique opportunity to examine the condition of death and un-life. Throughout the early history of the Damned, he studied alone. Of all the Antediluvians, Cappadocius appears the least interested in politics or power; even Saulot sired childer and fought in wars. Cappadocius saw no need to do so, until he realized he would never find his answers alone. Long after the flood, and after the demise of the Second City, he began with one childe, Caias Koine. With Caias, he began to study mortal civilizations in order to understand death.

Cappadocian history begins with three events: the embrace of Caias, which creates the clan proper, the first visions of Cappadocius, which would guide the future of the clan, and an encounter outside of Jerusalem. There, Cappadocius encountered a lone traveler who introduced him to the nameless God, who would become the goal of all of Cappadocius' projects.

The first of these projects was the construction of Erciyes, the vast temple-complex at the mountain of the same name. This site became the Cappadocian headquarters, containing a monastery and the home of the Antediluvian and his oldest childer. Erciyes became the heart and research center of the clan, with the majority of the clan returning regularly to trade discoveries and set clan policy. Cappadocius had a goal, and unlike some more anarchic clans, the entirety of clan Cappadocian was dedicated to this goal of meeting, and then diablerizing, God. Cappadocius, a priest in life, was the only Antediluvian to adopt a human religion - following Christianity in his own fashion.

The Dark Ages
Cappadocius, a vampire of the "I wake up and read for the next 300 years" variety, ruled his clan with a project but a relatively loose hand. He was a visionary, not a manager, and the clan was largely controlled by his favored childer: Japheth Cappadocius, Caias Koine, and Lazarus. These three had childer of their own in positions of power (most notably Constancia, and Lamia, the founder of the bloodline of the same name). After those, the ones Cappadocius would regularly see the clan spread far. So far that they populated two cities of their own: Kaymakli and Derinkuyu. Cappadocius was not aware that his clan was, in fact, the largest of all vampiric clans until the mortals of Derinkuyu told him. Remorseful at this, Cappadocius prepared a massive purge of his own clan.

He called another meeting of the clan at Kaymakli, with Japheth and Caias in attendance. Leading the members of the clan deeper into the cave complex underneath the city, he asked his descendants a sequence of questions to measure their worth to society. The ones who answered incorrectly (on the surface, at least) were dismissed and abandoned in the tunnels, while the remainder continued along with Cappadocius. In the end, Cappadocius sealed thousands of vampires in the caves with the curse of an Antediluvian: "Let no childe of Caine ever leave through this passage; let no son of Seth ever enter". There, bound by their Clan Founder's ward, the rejected childer starved, frenzied, fed, and fell to torpor.

The Feast of Folly led to another reduction of the clan: Lazarus had not attended the gathering, along with his childer he remained in Egypt. At this time, Egypt was close to forbidden for the clan, as the Followers of Set would make short work of invaders to their territory. By dint of power and darker measures, Lazarus ensured his safety there, but he and his infitiores were severed from the clan, renouncing their identity as Cappadocians for their own projects.

Following the Feast of Folly, the founder sought further assistance for the clan in unraveling death's mysteries. Selecting a family of Venetian necromancers, the Giovanni, Cappadocius brought their patriarch into the undead, seeking to complement the Cappadocian mastery of death with insights into existence after it.

Embracing Augustus would become the undoing of the clan, however. Augustus Giovanni had his own motives for the Embrace, and eventually betrayed his clan, diablerizing the Antediluvian and remaking it in his own image in 1444.

Victorian Ages
The Giovanni hunted the clan to extermination by the 19th century, having extracted a promise of non-interference from the Camarilla. The only survivors of the clan were small offshoots: Lazarus' infitiores, the Premascine Giovanni under the canals of Venice.

As the Cappadocians fell, various offshoots of the clan mutated in fashions that had already begun before Cappadocius' death. Some of the infitiores decayed physically, becoming mobile corpses.

Meanwhile, other Cappadocians were active beyond the Shroud, waiting...

Modern Nights
Some accounts have it that a cabal of ancient, powerful, and very angry Cappadocians took advantage of the Sixth Great Maelstrom to break through the Shroud, claiming or forming new decayed bodies and seeking vengeance. Others have it that it was the Capuchin's magics which helped the cabal escape the Underworld.

Whatever the truth may be, it is known that these Harbingers of Skulls have made nominal alliance with the Sabbat, although it would be more appropriate to say that they are the enemies of a Camarilla which sold them out.

Another group of Harbingers have made alliance with the Tal'Mahe'Ra, assisting that sect with its Underworld affairs in return for the opportunity to study the Dark Umbra.

In addition, two legacies of Clan Cappadocian exist within the Giovanni, the Premascines and rare cases called "avatisms of the blood". Premascines are old Cappadocians, members of the Giovanni family and bloodline who live under Venice's canals. The second are rare members of the family who upon Embrace take on the weakness of Cappadocians (a corpse-like pallor) and lack the Curse of Lamia.

The mutation of the Cappadocian blood since the clan's fall means that most surviving Cappadocians are now, to all intents and purposes, considered members of bloodlines or other clan variants, but there are still one or two who are recorded as remaining Cappadocian, such as Angelique of Cairo by Night and Apacia of Children of the Revolution.

During the 2010s, the Harbingers of Skulls launched an assault on Clan Giovanni's holdings in Venice, with the assistance of a number of young Giovanni. This was one of the immediate causes of the Family Reunion.

The majority of the Cappadocian remnants and the Harbingers of Skulls, no longer able or willing to exist separately, have synthesized into a single bloodline within the Hecata called the Harbingers of Ashur. Still, some Cappadocians are migrating to Camarilla domains and are weighing leaving the Hecata to join them.

Both the Hecata Cappadocians and Harbingers of Skulls, have a great deal of influence over covering up killings done by them or their companions, and they learn far quicker their arts of necromancy than most Hecata.

Because of the clan-wide changes in the blood, Hecata Cappadocian no longer exhibit their corpse-like visage. In its place is the new clan-wide bane of the painful Kiss.

Curiously, and although it is not widely known, the Cappadocian and Hecata are immune to the Beckoning.

Clan Stereotypes

Assamites:: Killers who have no appreciate for the sacred act they carry out time and again.
Brujah:: They claim to fight for what they believe in, but there is rarely any spiritual depth to their crusades.
Followers of Set:: To corrupt another's soul is surely the greatest crime imaginable. Although they believe themselves to be masters of spiritual decay, they know little of the consequences of their actions.
Gangrel:: In their attempt to reconcile man and beast, they have left their higher selves behind.
Lasombra:: With all their talk of darkness, they forget that without light, there can be no shadow.
Malkavians:: To see into the realms of the spirit as they do requires true wisdom and self-knowledge. While others dismiss them as fools and madmen, we know the wisdom behind their eyes.
Nosferatu:: Always hiding, always afraid to let people see them for what they are. What kind of toll does this constant deception take on their souls?
Ravnos:: Vagabonds and beggars who debase the name of vampyr with their childish games.
Toreador:: Their search to understand the eternal through art is admirable, but until they learn to look beyond the temporal world, they are doomed to fail.
Tremere:: Upstarts who seek a power they cannot hope to understand. A little knowledge of the occult arts can be a dangerous thing indeed, as they will doubtless learn in time.
Tzimisce:: Mastery of the flesh is admirable; if they could but see beyond it..
Ventrue:: Their realm is the temporal, fleeting world of mortal power. Admirable allies, they have achieved near mastery of what they set their sights on.
Baali:: Fools. If they truly understood the meaning of eternity beyond death, they would not talk of it so lightly.

Disciplines

Mortis
is rooted in the control and manipulation of death. More specifically, Mortis is a form of magic dealing with corpses and their conditions after death. The Cappadocian clan are the only kindred to possess the natural affinities for this Discipline. It is said to have been given to the clan Elders by Cappadocius himself.

Cappadocians believe that when a person dies the soul leaves the body, but an echo of the soul remains. This echo, along with the flesh of the dead, can be manipulated in many ways. Mortis, like the Tremere Discipline, Thaumaturgy is seperated into different paths and contains rituals. However, this is only true of the Dark Ages version; in the first edition (Vampire: The Dark Ages), Mortis was a more traditionally-styled Discipline.

The Lamia bloodline of Cappadocians have their own proprietary path of Mortis called the Path of Four Humours, while the recently-Embraced Giovanni family has brought their own paths, Nigrimancy and the Path of Haunting.

In the Final Nights Mortis evolves into the Samedi discipline of Thanatosis, while the path of Nigrimancy becomes the Giovanni blood magic paths of Necromancy.

Caitiffs are also given the option of taking this as a Discipline, although most Storytellers look down upon the clan exclusive disciplines as a choice

Auspex
is a Discipline that grants vampires supernatural senses. It is one of the most common and favored Discipline among Cainites due to its versatility and overall usefulness in just about every facet of vampiric existence. In addition to the individual powers granted at each level, Auspex allows someone the opportunity to see through illusions, such as from Obfuscate or Chimerstry, so long as the user possess at least an equal mastery in Auspex as the Discipline in question. Furthermore, it has been known to grant some degree of oracular ability, particularly when alerting a Cainite to danger, even if they are in torpor.

Fortitude
is a Discipline that grants Kindred incredible resilience and the ability to resist fire and sunlight, the natural banes of the undead. Normally Fortitude does not need to be activated, and each dot is added to all soak rolls.

The following clans and bloodlines possess Fortitude as an in-clan Discipline: Akunanse, Blood Brothers, Daughters of Cacophony, Gangrel, Gargoyle, Harbingers of Skulls, Ishtarri, Kinyonyi, Lamia, Mla Watu, Nkulu Zao, Ravnos, Salubri, Samedi and Ventrue. Risen wraiths may also acquire this Discipline with the right training

The cemetery was silent as a lone Fae made his way through the tombstones, his paws brushing against the stones. Even though the sun had set hours ago, the stone and mortar still held some of it's warmth. Few other Faes would have noticed it, for few others had fur quite so cold as his was. His blue eyes read over the names of those who were now deceased; they may come in handy later, when he was prepared to take his revenge. But that was some time from now.

Now was the time to build up his clan again; to once again have the largest vampire clan. How foolish he had been to have demolished them all! His time spent on the other side of the Shroud had given him plenty of time to think of that. But alas, it was too late. A few may remain and come back to him, but he could not be so hopeful as to think he would find any more than that. So he would take whoever he found here and then they would seek out more to join their ranks.

His stride was even and slow as he made his way toward the church in the back of the grave yard. Rumor had it that the few that still called themselves Cappadocians took up residence in the catacombs of this ancient-looking church. Gods be damned if they weren't.

User ImageAnita sits in the light with a couple books opened and a notebook beside her hands.

Feeling a shiver she looks around, she was alone Apollo was somewhere close, but this feeling was stronger then that, it was a vampire essance that she was feeling she blinks, could it be their master finally waking up at last she blinks again, closing the book she heads up the stairs to check it out.

Finally reaching the doors to the church she growls at herself and gets ready incase it is not whom she thinks it had been while since she felt him, she opens the door and steps outside looking around for him.

"Anita, darling," His voice was almost warm as he entered the room. Of course she would be here. She had been one of the truly dedicated few. Lucky of her to have been far away when the Feast had taken place. What a shame it would have been to lost her. A cool paw brushed her hair off of her shoulder as he looked over her to the books she was looking at. They were nearly as old as he was.

"How have things been?" Ashur offered a toothy grin, pleased that she, at least, remained. If no one else existed, Anita was a worthy one to have around. Certainly she would help him build the clan back up; but this time he would keep a better eye on his children. They would not spread so far, and he would keep a closer eye on them.

Anita blinks then smirks at bowing her head to him " hello Lord Ashur." she smiles lightly as he brushes her hair, she follows his line of sight, then smirks a bit, without showing her fangs, she knew that he would be impressed to see her studing again

" Things could be better my lord, everyone from your clan has left us, there is only one child that has remined here with me, his name is Apollo, I have also met the Elder for the Giovanni he is cruel and hateful as always, their clan is much bigger then ours, it has been differcult, our meth left and hasn't been seen either." she places her arms folded around her

He didn't say anything now, but just looked around the temple. He should have known that things would be less than satisfactory. Two left. One of them who was may as well be a child. Yes, Anita had stayed, thankfully, but the Meth had left? Damn it. And did she say that she'd been associating with the Giovanni? A growl formed in his chest as he swiped some of the books off of the table and seating himself across from Anita.

"What were you thinking? Going to them! They're the ones who ruined this clan!" Slamming his paw onto the table, he looked away from her, infuriated with the past. He had been the one to change the first Giovanni. Augustus Giovanni. While it had seemed a good thing at the time, the necromancer had overtaken the clan and attempted to rid himself of Ashur for good. Little did he know that the Disciple was back. It took more than death to destroy death itself.

anita blinks as she watches the books hit the floor she drops to her knees not knowing what Ashur will do with him mad she was worried and fooish she didn't know what else to do at the time how was to tell him that.

shaking in fear of him she bows her head father still on her knees with her head down " I wasn't I was scared and fooish my lord, I didn't know what else to do." she sobs softly not beening able to stop herself, she knew that the giovanni did that, that is why she choose to hide herself away and sleep, did he know she the power to create and control the dead.

Rubbing his head slightly, as any mortal with a headache would do, Ashur looked at her over his shoulder. It almost disgusted him to see her cower so. He'd thought she'd had more dignity than this. Rubbing elbows with Giovanni, sobbing on the floor, in his presence, non the less! "Get up." His voice was still a rumbling growl, his eyes flickered away from her as he looked to the books now strewn across the floor.

"And do get those while you're at it." Both sentences were commands, and at this point, or any point for that matter, it would be foolish of her to disobey him. Tail lashing in frustration, he leaned back, tipping his chair and tapping his finger tips together. "Anita, Anita, Anita..." Once more, he looked to her, his eyes holding a softness that a father might hold for his daughter. "I thought I taught you so much better than all this. You should have known no fear in my absence. But I must have been wrong about you." Through the softness, there was a tone of disappointment.

"Tell me of this other. Apollo, you said his name was?"
