So, how do you pronounce the word sabot? Or rather, which way is the right way to say it?

I heard it pronounced around here as sah-but, and I always assumed that was it, but I also heard pronounced like say-boh. Any help is appriciated.

I always thought it was like sa-boh with the "sa" being like "sat" and the "bot" being like "beaux".

But I could be wrong.

Agreed on Sabot, and as to carbine, I say both. Usually EIN though. The M4 always makes me want to say "M4 carbEAN" for some reason.

I always pronounce it as CarbEIN myself.

I always use "CarBEIN" because the other way just seems... well it doesn't sound good to me. And Garand is "gayr-and" (gayr rhymed with bear), right? Not Gah-rand?

Because Garand was Canadian or something.

Garand has more to do with your dialect if you ask me. Some people pronouce the american A as an E or I, so it varies.
I've always said Ga-rand or Ger-rand. I really don't see any specific way to say it as long as you have a E A or I vowel sound between the G and R.

EDIT: Thread name should be changed to "How to pronounce funny words" xd

I say carb'ein'.

I pronounce Sabot as 'Say-beaux'. I've staid that way since I played armor commander or, whatever it was. The 3d tank game that's like Comanche Gold. That's how the pronounced it in that game, "Loading sabot!" or "Loading heat!"

As far as Garand, I pronounce it with a short A.
I guess you would spell the pronunciation as, 'Guh-rand' although spelling it that way sounds retarded. It's less of an 'uh' more of an 'a'. Yeah, just consider it a short 'a'.

"The name "sabot" comes from a French word for wooden shoes traditionally worn in some European countries, also called clogs."

I guess it is.
