What is your favorite type of manga? It could be Shonen, Sentai (for those that don't know what Sentai is, think of Power Rangers or Gundam), Shojo, even Doujinshi! (SOMEBODY MAKE SOME DOUJINSHI, I WANNA SEE MORE, BTW, Doujinshi is fan made manga or anime.)
Personally, I like Shonen and Doujinshi, and stuff that makes fun of Sentai. I only really liked hard core Sentai when I was about six. So, I stick with Keroro Gunsou (Sgt. Frog here in America) which gives me all the good Sentai parodying I need. It's one of my favorites, waiting for 16 to come out, this is taking forever!!

One great is Post-Apocalyptic Violence, with Hokuto no Ken being the classic one.
There is also Action Horror, or, as I have heard it called lately Violence Horror, with the best example being Hellsing, but also including Tsukihime, Vampire Hunter D, Resident Evil/Biohazard, Biomega, Witch Hunter Robin, and a million more great series
However, my favorite genre is easily Dark Fantasy, with brilliant series such as Berserk, b*****d!!, Uberblatt, and many more here as well.

Eeeeep! No... some of those are not Shonen manga. Tsukihime certainly is, but no, by the kami, not Berserk, Hokuto no Ken, b*****d!!, or even Vampire Hunter D, or Biomega. They are otona(大人)manga. Which means adult. Anyone can buy them, but parents freak out over there in Japan as much as anywhere else in the world about the content of these things. I have seen stores periodically send an employee sweeping down the otona isles to shoo anyone who looks too young away from them.
There is sex, nudity, and graphic violence in them to extreme degrees in otona. They're most certainly not shonen manga.
While yes indeed, the typical main character of a shonen series is a young boy, there are plenty of otona manga with young main characters that are anything but similar. The real classifier for shonen is their target audience. Shonen manga is for boys age 12-18ish, or Jr. High to high school. Of course younger kids read them, but their content is still far tamer than an otona title, and most people regard them as 'safe.' That's not always the case, but so it goes... There was a rape scene in Tsukihime that caught me off guard, for example. o,0
Not that I have anything against shonen or think it's any kind of inferior, its just a real distinction between types of publications.

The difference between Otona and Shonen is the extent of the content. Yes Kenshin is bloody, but that alone doesn't qualify it as Otona. If you have read Hellsing or Berserk or any really hardcore murderfest, then you would see a night in day difference in the presentation of the violence versus any shonen title. Kenshin kills people, lops off arms, but there is arm chopping in One Piece. Now, in Berserk, the Miura practically revels in the pure and horrible violence of incredibly sadistic acts. He has some inquisitor characters in there that frankly made me ill with their wheel torture.
Lots of stuff has violence and nudity. Even the Dragonball, the quintessential Shonen manga has nudity, and it's Goku who runs around without anything on, not to mention nearly every female characters flash the old man. However, its not really sexual, nor explicitly any kind of Ero/Hentai stuff. Innocent kinds of nudity are common. Japanese are into communal bathing and kind of view nudity in a different way, it's not purely an adult thing, it's a part of regular life... However... Once you have a fully depicted sex scene, you are going into Otona territory for certain, and its a fine line from Otona to hentai. Ranma certainly doesn't go down on Akane with hardcore Ero intent and get it on that I remember at all... *ponders, wondering about rereading...*
