I never had a game system until the Genesis era, however, my grandma (yeah, really!) had a NES system at her place to entertain the grandkids (she was also a tetris fiend! That and the original Jaws game... she would sail around looking for that damn shark for hours!) so I would play it after school a lot with my cousins, cause my grandma looked after us three when we were off school till our parents came to get us.
I particularly liked Mario 3, and though my cousin could beat it (he knew the right warp whistle tricks to get through it real fast), I never did until much later. We also had Zelda II, and played that a lot. We'd hand off the controller when someone died. Contra and Ikari Warriors were the other mainstays. I couldn't get very far in Contra ever, but my cousin and I got nearly to the very end of Ikari Warriors doing two player mode.
One classic series I rarely got to play, since it was a friend who brought the cartridge over, was the Castlevanias. Oh how I love and yet hate the original trilogy games. Love because the'yre fun and classic, hate because they are stupid amounts of hard. I never beat a single one till a few years ago when i got them in emulation wink

Not only was that game awesome but it was harder than HELL to beat. I'm noticing that trend in older video games. I get my a** whooped playing them. So does my brother, which is even more incredulous. He sailed through Twilight Princess without so much as a scratch, but he got beat the ******** down playing zelda 1 and 2. I bet he'd school zelda 3 though, since we actually remember playing that one.
@Miss Death: Reading your comment about playing an NES in high school made me feel like I was still in diapers. when I was in early high school, we were moving on from the Xbox. I don't even remember playing an NES, Dad says we had one though, so that's all that matters.
