With her head held high and her ears set forwards the brightly coloured youngster padded through the prides lands without hesitation. Taking a long deep breath she was off to see the leader of the pride, she whom would give her, her drum. She knew she had to go on a quest but that was the fun of it, she knew she was old enough now, connected to the sound of the rain which reminded her so much of a tiny drums beat on the ground.
A smile lifted her young maw as she padded along her golden eyes glinting in the sunlight. It was her day and she was going to make the most of it. It was time to find her beat and join the drum toting club.

What a day! It was still young and Isithunzi was already tired. She'd had to eat, move some things around in her den, check up on events at the drum circle, and redirect Hakuna's attentions. Poor Taka needed a break from him, he seemed to latch onto her in particular. Why was unknown, but Isi couldn't have her daughter being mobbed constantly by her son. She was so frazzled by now that she'd left all of her things- drum and shakers both- back at her den.
No time to get it now, she spotted a teal figure heading towards her. Though she hadn't really interacted with the girl much, Isithunzi knew Vinca's name and face, as she knew everyone's. She knew also, that this was likely for... a drum quest! Frazzled or not... A drum quest always cleared her mind, it was like a pause for life, and she was always welcome to one.
She picked up her pace and headed forward. "Hello there, Vinca!" She called when she was close enough. She kept padding forward until she was within talking-distance. "How are you today?" She said cheerily, really hoping that the juve had it in mind to get her drum made today.

A wide grin formed on the young lionesses face, a smile which touched her eyes and clearly broke from her heart. "Greetings ma'am." She purrs bowing her head a little, she had been taught by her mother that it was better to be respectful than blunt in these situations, even if by default she was usually forth coming with her questions.
Of course impatience caused her to blurt out her wants, she was after all young and carefree and impetuous. "I've come to get my drum." She beamed puffing out her slender chest and holding her head high. She felt for a moment like the adult whom stood before her, proud to be taking a path she needed, she wanted, she longed for. Proud to be finding her beat.
It only took her a moment to regain her calm exterior, fidgeting a little she flicked her ears and grinned a little more sheepishly this time. "If I could ma'am, i want to go on my quest, I'm ready!"

Isithunzi certainly understood the excitement and anxiousness to get one's drum, it was always an exciting time in an Nchi'Mahadhi member's life. She couldn't help but catch on Vinca's excitement while it lasted. "Certainly, you're of the right age," Isi said. "Well, let's go get your drum made!" She started to turn towards where the gourds were, watching to make certain that the teal lioness was following. "So tell me how much you know about Rhythm, we can discuss that on the way to where the process begins. Do you have any idea what you think yours should be like?" She asked the juve as they padded along, watching Vinca's reaction. She knew the way so well, she hardly needed to watch where she was going.

Vinca smiled looking thoughtful, she had thought about her rythem alot. "I think, I think I know a little. I love it when the rain comes down and I can hear the pitter patter." She moved her forepaws in a strange manner then making a slight fluttering of the soft ground which sounded similar to raindrops.
"Is that like my rythem?" She smiled and padded up beside the older lioness her eyes shimmering like golden amulets. This was her moment she was about to get her drum. She was so excited, thinking about what her drum was going to be like she almost stumbled, though she straightened herself quickly and grinned, maybe she was a little too excited.

"Well, it's not exactly your rhythm yet, but it's a good start," Isithunzi said with a nod as they went. "You can base your rhythm on rain, most certainly! But you kind of need to develop it first. Something that is specific, that can be repeated. It can evolve too, over time. As you change and mature, so will your rhythm. But yes, you can make your rhythm sound exactly like the sound of rain." The sound of rain... was actually very enjoyable, Isithunzi took a moment to wonder why she didn't have anything like rain in her own song. Maybe she'd work it in, if she could.
"But that's definitely a good start, a lot of cats don't have the slightest idea, you're a little ahead of the game, Vinca," she said cheerfully.

Vinca grinned, she felt overly proud of herself, she was ahead of the game, all because she liked the sound of rain. She beamed and her head lifted a little higher, if that was actually possible.
"Are we nearly there? I can't wait to get my drum!" She puurrs taking a small leaping skip and landing herself a little ahead of the older lioness. She could barely contain her excitement and it was coming out in little odd skips and rushes of adrenaline.
This was the greatest thing that had happened to her in her young life and all those happy thoughts kept bubbling up and over her paws making her body shift and sway in rather hyper manner.

Isithunzi couldn't help but chuckle lightly at the girl's enthusiasm. "Yes, we're nearly there, just over that hill. You'll find gourds there, don't pick it solely on looks since you can decorate it later, the gourd is the base of your drum, you'll need to choose it wisely," she said, keeping her rose-colored eyes on the girl before her. "You'll pick one, tap it, and see if the sound seems like what you want. Some like deep sounds," she said, deepening her own voice to emphasize it. "But I have a feeling you'll want a higher-pitched type, they've generally got thinner walls." She wasn't sure if that made any sense from here, having not seen them yet. "You'll see what I mean in a few moments." She said as she crested the hill, showing a tree just a bit ahead. At its base were gourds on the ground, having fallen out of the tree. Yes, it was her favorite tree, Isi loved to see it. She knew that this tree was old, old but important.

Vinca beamed, her golden eyes smiling happily as they crested the rise and she took in the sight of the gourds, there were lots, and she had to pick by tapping them? It sounded like quite a task. Licking her lips she looked to the elder lioness for a moment before she trotted forwards without a moments hesitation.
She had to pick her gourd and it had to be a really good one, one that sounded gentle as the pattering rains. She just didn't know quite where to begin, she felt a little over whelmed but soon found a gourd which to tap.
She unfurled her claws and pattered her toes along the base but the sound was much too gruff, she wanted something gentle. Her progress along the line of gourds was slow and rather, quiet it felt like time had slowed to a standstill.
Finally she came to a small gourd, which she ran her toes across, the sound it made forced the fur on the back of her neck to stand on end. "This is the one." She purrs nudging the gourd gently, this was her gourd, ehr drum, she had to be careful with it.

Isithunzi watched the girl go from gourd to gourd in the little "field" of the ones that had dropped from the tree with a smile. Such attention to detail... Vinca would undoubtedly find the perfect one for her, most were very choosy with the one they picked, and that was just fine by the grey lioness. She sat back on her hanches, tail flicking absentmindedly until the teal lioness spoke again.
"Alright!" Isithunzi said, rising smoothy and trotting over to the young lion. She sat down again and inspected it. "Ok, so here's what's next. Now we've gotta punch some holes in it, to hold the drumhead on when we get it back. We can do that out here or carry it back and do it at the drum circle, your choice" Isi said with a nod before continuing. "But anyway, we punch the holes with our claws and teeth, but you should be able to carve it out with your claws. Want me to do one, to show you?" She asked. Some were willing to start digging into it on their own right away, and others preferred a demonstration, she would be willing to do either.
