Ri stretched out, enjoying the heat nearer to the volcano, the sacred hell-gate. The heat of the sun was not something she enjoyed, but she could endure it. But the heat of the hell-gate...that was a heat full of power. A heat she reveled in. And her mother would not bother her here. Even with her mother's ability to adapt, she could not stand the heat of the hell-gate...proof her mother was a pathetic non-demon.

The little demon-cub rolled onto her back, careful to not dislodge the starts of her beautiful headdress. One day...one day she would move without making the bells ring, and creatures would learn to fear when she could not be heard...

Like her sister, Kasdeya also spent a great deal of her time near the volcano. Unlike her sister, however, Kasdeya's motives were not to avoid her mother, but simply to enjoy the power that she felt within herself in the volcano's presense. Kasdeya often acted as though she was without a mother, fully understanding that her mother's position in the pride was that of a slave and she was without demon blood within her veins.

As the small brown cub continued to appoach her common resting area, she spotted a similarly marked cub already there. Recognising the colors and markings immedietly, Kasdeya felt a slight snarl appear on her face. Moricorm.

Continuing forward, the cub narrowed her eyes and cleared her throat, eager to make herself known. Looking the other cub over, Kasdeya cocked a brow curiously, "What the hell are you wearing on your head?"

Ri opened a single blood red eye at her sister's approach. "It's called a headdress. It's not finished yet, there are still a few bells I want to find...But it's a perfect training device." She smirked, wondering if her sister would even understand. Ri's thought reached far beyond just the present...the small cub planned for the future.

She twitched her tail a bit, showing off the gold rings that shone there. "And one of the slaves found these...Beautiful, yes?" Ri was still rather unsure where she stood with her sister...She knew Kasdeya was not on...good terms with Ri's closest ally in her plans. But she also knew Kas adored her father just as she did.

While Kasdeya thought her sister looked rather foolish with the swarm of bells around her head, she did have the admit that her sister's thinking was brilliant. "For training?" Kasdeya repeated, a sly smirk appearing on her face. If the two shared one thing in common, it was their desire to train and become the most powerful and respected demons of the pride. Kasdeya also trained for the great battle in which she planned to compete against all her siblings as well as the other cubs of the pride.

Oh how she longed to compete Nyota in particular!

When Moricorm twitched her tail to reveal two gorgeous, spiral marked, golden bands, Kasdeya simply snubbed her sister, acting entirely unimpressed. "They are alright, but I think you are focusing on unimportant things, Ri. Tell me more about your training." As harsh as Kasdeya's words sounded, the fact that she used a nickname for her sister said so much more. Kasdeya was harsh towards everyone, feeling as though showing emotion made her weak. A simple nickname, however, showed that she did actually care for her sister.

Ri laughed softly and nodded. "I intend to one day move without making a sound. Even with this on. Think of the advantages I would have...a foolish opponent would underestimate me." She smirked. "And they are unimportant trinkets certainly..."

Her eyes flashed with fire. "But as I said, the foolish would underestimate one who is adorned to impress. Makes it easier for us to determine who is unworthy of their blood." Ri had no doubt she and her younger sister and eldest sister were worthy of their father's blood. Her brothers and elder sister...that was another matter.

Foolish, soft things.

((Where does Kas fit in age wise? I'm not sure I know the order the cubs were born))

Kasdeya nodded, still wearing her trademark smirk. "That is clever, sister. Even I doubted your reasoning behind the jewelry, but I can see now that they are simply tools to assist you in achieving your goal. They would certainly distract an opponent." Looking them over once more, the cub continued to be impressed. She had seen a variety of tactics that the young lions of the pride were using to create a signature style for the competition. What had she been working on?

When Ri continued to explain how only the foolish would underestimate the trinkets, Kas felt her bite down hard on her own tongue. It would be silly to start a fight with her sister over her wounded pride. The conversation was going well thus far and she had already met enough enemies for the time being. Looking to shift gears, the cub's eyes scanned over Ri's clean pelt and then became curious. "And what about your scars? Have you been training with any others?" Kas lifted her front paws to reveal a thick scar Mahewa had given her on her underside. It had not been the most respectable battle, but no one had to know just how the cub got her trophy.

(Since Kas is a custom, I think she's counted as the 'youngest' of the litter.)

To hear Kas of all the others praise her ingenuity gave Ri an honest swell of pride. She quickly contained it, however, since she knew how dangerous a bloated ego could be. Ri could NOT afford such a thing. Not if she wanted to be Tari'shoter. A bloated ego would mean she would underestimate her opponents, and that would be bad. "Thank you, Kas. Your praise is always a breath of fresh air...no deception in your words." Kas' honesty would get her far if she used it right...

"Scars? Mmm...I have none yet. I will change that soon enough. I'm confident I can start fighting without one of you breaking me." If there was one thing Ri HATED about herself, it was her size. It was a blessing in some ways...but in others....It infuriated her to have so much bloodlust, but none of the size to properly enjoy it. The others were so much bigger...

But she would show her size was not necessarily a factor...no...she would show the small could be deadly too. Like a young cobra...

Ri's response was something new to Kasdeya and she felt her cheeks warm as they turned a pale shade of pink, hidden well beneath her dark fur. She hadn't had very close relationships with her family and while Ri had been one of the few she believed might be a challenge, it was comforting to know that she could agree with her sister about certain things. It gave her a sense of family and belonging.

When her sister finally answered her question regarding scars, Kasdeya was returned to her earlier mindset, focused on their goals and discussing tactics. "Of course you can fight us without us breaking you, Ri." It was strange for the brown colored lioness to be so supporting of her sister, but she felt herself somewhat caught up in the moment. "I am constantly training and would enjoy the company of a sparring partner. The two of us can achieve our goals together."

Ri smiled. "I would like that. A great deal." Sparring with Kas would give both of them and edge. And if they remained on good terms, that was in both of their best interests. Let En'da have her war games and her brothers be coddled by their mother...

The two youngest girls would prove their worth to the pride. And themselves. They would show they were worthy of their blood. "Perhaps we can start tomorrow night?"

Kasdeya nodded at her sister's proposal. The sooner the two began on their training, the sooner they could improve and gain more practice. The way that Ri had talked down on herself because of her size had surprised Kasdeya. While she understood that her sibling was the smallest of the litter, she had never thought less of Ri because of that. In fact, of the entire litter the one that Kasdeya found to be the biggest threat was the cunning, intelligent Ri. It she never became a very skilled fighter, she could use her trickery and deception to get whatever it was that she wanted. Perhaps the two had much to offer one another so that they could both benefit.

Did they need to prove themselves to the pride or did they need to prove themselves for themselves?
