What a strange world this was. It didn't make any sense. None at all. Loko o ka wandered through the bones of the graveyard, heading nowhere in particular, when the dusty landscape suddenly changed. It changed so quickly, in fact, that the young hyena was entirely puzzled by it.
Why on earth would the land change so suddenly like that? Nonsense. Complete and utter nonsense.
And so she sat her tiny rear upon the ground, right at the edge of the graveyard, glancing back and forth between the desolate graveyard and the sand colored savannah stretching out before her.
"This is foolishness." She grumbled to herself, "It's more than that, it's just stupid. I don't understand it... Not one bit." Her ears flattened against her skull, a look of pure irritation on her face. She hated it when she didn't understand things. Part of her wanted to run off and ask her mother about this phenomenon, but the other part of her knew that her mother would probably not know. She sighed. Why did her mother have to be so... Oblivious? Were parents not supposed to be wise? Apparently not, because Zua still acted as though she were a pup!
Her intense red eyes flashed angrily at the thought. She did not hate her mother, but she did think that she was rather useless when it came to the logic of the world. She'd have to find someone smarter to teach her. Someone who did not always want to frolic and play.

Always being an escape artist from getting away from his family, he thought today he would try to get close to the graveyard pack... or where he thought they were. Every time he went off on his own, he had himself travel a little farther each time. This way... he would remember how to get places better. He had been getting good at remembering places and was gone from home longer and longer. His parents didn't necessarily like that one bit, but he always managed to ignore them and their lectures.
Today he managed to succeed in his traveling goal. He did, in fact, get further away from home. This time though, the scenery seemed to change really fast and that was very unusual. Where he usually went, the sandy floors of Africa flowed in every direction. Now, in the very near distance, he noticed the ground got more dusty. The wind picked up the particles more easily and practically got dirt in Raziki's eyes. It seemed like a darker place to be and a small chill went up his spine. Would this end up being the place he had always dreamed of? The adventurous, bone-covered fantasy?
The chill went up his spine had made him grin though. Even though it hadn't been confirmed yet as to where he was, he felt instinctivly he had reached his destination.
He plopped his rear onto the ground, which seemed to make a cloud of dust take flight. He looked around at his possible future home. Although it had a creepy vibe to it, he liked that feeling much more than the boring same old grasslands and sunshine. Here, the sun looked like it dimmed down. He searched the horizon, looking for anything out of the ordinary, only to spot a hyena pup. A female. Why was she out here all alone? Didn't she have some rule baring parents like him?

Her eyes scanned the edge of the plains, sweeping from one end to the other several times before, to her surprise, she saw something that had not been there before.
No, that wasn't right.
It had been there, she just hadn't seen it. A creature... A hyena by the looks of it, and he blended in almost perfectly with the grass of this strange new place.
That, and he was looking at her. Her curiosity kicked in, and she rose to her paws, hurrying towards him.
"You there." She yelped, "Hey, what is your name?" She asked. Her tone was difficult to read. She was not friendly, exactly, but she certainly did not sound aggressive. As she neared him, she realized that he was a good deal larger than her. He must be older. She made a mental note of that before continuing.
"My name is Loko o ka." She stated simply, "What brings you here?"

He noticed the female scampering towards him and at that moment, he wondered what she wanted. Hopefully she wasn't going to kick him out of the territory. Then again, even if she tried, he was bigger and stronger than her. He'd surely get his way... unless an adult came along.
When she reached him, she already started questioning him. What was this? A trialing?
"Raziki..." he slightly glared. Why was she asking questions right away? He wasn't used to it.
With the mention of her name, he made sure to remember it for future reference by repeating it a couple times to himself. Loko o ka... he had never heard a name quite like it before.
"Why would you want to know?" he asked in a cocky tone.
Where he was planning on traveling to and where he came from was none of a stranger's business.

"I want to know," She scowled at him, "For several reasons." If he was going to act cocky, she didn't see why she shouldn't too. The young pup sat down and flicked her tail slightly before looking back up at him in a 'do-I-really-need-to-explain-this-to-you?' sort of way.
"First of all, I live here. I want to know who comes here, and why. I had originally intended to offer direction if you needed it, but..." Ironically, her tone was almost patronizing and as she went on it became more and more clear that she did not appreciate his greeting. "Then you went and got smart with me."
If there was one thing that Loko o ka could not stand, it was being treated as inferior. Perhaps it was to be expected at this point in life, but when she got older she would tolerate it no longer. She'd show any fool how dangerous she could be.
Just as soon as she was big enough... Then nobody would treat her like she was small or weak.
For now though, she'd simply have to rely on her above-average intellect to win respect.
"Secondly, I had at first wondered if you wanted to be... What's the word? Friends?" She shrugged, "But that seems to be out of the question. Unless, of course, you decide to be a bit nicer."

"Oh?" So she wanted to play, did she? He had played these games before with females. He played them all the time with Seriti, the hyena pup who had mysterious connections in his family.
"Directions?" Raziki grumbled. "Who ever said I needed directions? I get around fine on my own." He knew his way around of a lot of places right now. After all... all Raziki liked to do was go exploring whenever he got the chance to run away from his family, so of course he knew his way around. It made him wonder sometimes how others could just undermind his smarts. In fact, he was confident that he knew more than his mother and father combined. He didn't care if he was cocky... rude... or sometimes even hurtful. Raziki usually didn't like to go as far as hurting someone, but if the time called for it, he did what he had to do.
Friends, huh? He thought about it for a few seconds. Just enough so this hyena girl wouldn't question his mental thoughts. Raziki knew that he didn't need anybody in this world. He didn't need any friends at all. No, not him. He knew though if he continued on showing his true personality though, that he most likely would miss crucial information that he would want to know from this female. He hadn't even figured out if he had come at a stop on the edge of the Graveyard pack or not.
"But I suppose I should use a bit more of my manners." He told her. It left a nasty taste in his mouth to say that, but he needed to do this for the sake of his future. The sake of his dreams.
"My name is Raziki though. I am a rogue and came from a little ways away. I was just curious as to what was over here. I am in search of uh... something." He explained and waited for her to return the same information.

"I never said you needed them, I was merely offering on the possibility that you might." She clicked her tongue in a slightly amused fashion, her ears swiveling forwards to listen better as she did so. "But according to you, you don't. I'll leave it at that."
She watched silently as he thought over her statement, probably weighing his options. She was quite pleased to hear his decision.
"It would work wonders." Yes, manners did tend to do that with her. Anyone who treated her politely was likely to get the same in return, along with possibly some useful information. She wasn't sure if Raziki had figured it out yet or not, but she was quite the bright little hyena. Her elaborate vocabulary (especially at such a young age) often stunned adults, but unfortunately was usually wasted on younger hyenas. Out of habit, she spoke that way nonetheless, but she did enjoy the puzzled looks the older hyenas gave her.
"A rogue who is looking for something? How very vague." She resisted the urge to roll her eyes before continuing. "Come now, if you don't tell me what you want, I can't help you."
"As I've said before, I live here in the graveyard. Not far from here you may find my mother and younger sister, if you feel the need to visit with them." She didn't much like the thought of spending time with them, personally, but as ditsy as her mother was, she did know her way around here well enough. "Don't go too deep into the graveyard on your own, though." She said warningly, her tone lowering slightly.
"If you're not with someone who'll vouch for you, you could be in for a world of hurt."

He gave her a short nod when she suprisingly was somewhat kind about his opinion. Usually people weren't like that and got very short with him. She must have had more patience.
He then heard an obnoxious noise coming from somewhere and arched an eyebrow when he figured out it was Loko o ka. His siblings made weird noises like that all the time.
When she mentioned about how she could only help if he told her where he was traveling, he knew she was right. He had to tell her things that he usually didn't like telling people. "Yeah, I suppose."
"Graveyard you say?" Once he heard that word, his ears pirked up so he could listen to everything this female was saying. "Well in that case... if that is where I reside right now, I have already found what I was looking for." With telling her this, he started stepping towards the territory more until she had mentioned a 'world of hurt'. Now what was going to stop him? First it was his mother, then knowing the way to travel, and now supposently he will get hurt? This was too much. He felt like he might have come out here for nothing. Then again, he got to look at it. He got the chance to admire it for a while before entering that world.

"You were looking for the graveyard, then?" She asked for confirmation. "For what reason? Or are you simply seeing the sights?" She asked with a slight smirk. As if anyone would come around here to look at the bones. How laughable.
Before he could even answer, Loko o Ka was already pondering why Raziki could have come here. Perhaps he, like so many other hyenas, was looking to join the pack. Or maybe he intended to remain a rogue, but take up residence here? That would be unwise, but she did not know his intentions and was determined not to judge him until she did.
"I suppose you don't have to tell me your business." She said with a shrug, "After all, I have no reason to be trusted with it, but I doubt it could hurt. Unless your plans are... Less than friendly, as far as my home and it's residents are concerned." Her eyes flashed warningly. If he did turn out to be an enemy of sorts, she certainly would not hesitate to fetch some of the older hyenas. She would stand no chance against him, of course, but an adult could handle him with no problem.
"So if nothing else, I'm afraid I must know this; what is the nature of your visit?"

He sighed with a low grumble. He was getting tired of getting asked all of these questions. All he wanted to do was explore the territory without getting asked things to death. If he were to come into contact with one of these hyenas around these parts, he'd simply flee, but his plan to be really sneaky about being there... admiring. He didn't want to do any harm to the pack whatsoever.
"Yes..." he sighed, rolling his eyes. Raziki hoped that this annoying pup would hurry it up with all of her questions.
"I came out here looking for the Graveyard pack because I was simply looking at what I intend to live upon someday." Hopefully this would answer all of her questions. "I want to join the pack soon."
Wanting to just go somewhere, he started playing with the dust. There was no way he was going to sit here all day talking about what he was all up to.

"You intend to live here?" She asked, now more curious than skeptical. "Well then, welcome in advance. That is, if you decide to go through with it." She shrugged. The graveyard was certainly not a bad place to live, especially with the protection of so many other pack members, but she always thought that it must look quite sinister to outsiders. Oh well.
Loko o Ka simly stared at him as he began to play with the fine dust on the ground, watching him intently in an attempt to decipher what he was trying to accomplish by it. She didn't very well understand the concept of being bored. There were always fascinating things to look at, to study, to think about. Perhaps Raziki had never seen dirt so light and prone to float in the air before?
Yes, that must be it.
With that, she dismissed the thought. "In any case, when you decide to join, just tell someone. They'll take you to the alpha, and you'll go from there." She nodded, "Just don't get snotty with her, clear? We don't want you to join these skeletons as another decoration, hm?"

"Uhm, thanks." He wondered why she thought there was a chance he really wouldn't join the pack. It's all he ever wanted to do in his life, so why would he back out now? The pure adventure of it attracted him. It was quite different from any other group of animals. Especially the location, but this just made Raziki's interest grow more.
"Why wouldn't I go through with it? Do I look like I would back out? I've been wanting this since I can remember..." He finally had said. Raziki was definately not a wimp. There was no way he was backing out of this whatsoever. He would show everyone who ever doubted him that he could be the toughest hyena around and become a known name. Soon he would prove himself...
At what the pup said next, it almost sounded like she was trying to be his mother. He wanted to snap and say something crude very badly, but had said he would keep somewhat polite before. He had to suck it up to his best abilities. "Okay. Fine." If being polite was what the alpha wanted, he'd do it. In fact, when he started living here, he was sure he would do almost anything to get the approval of whoever ran the joint. He was determined to become the best.

"It's nothing." She flicked an ear, not really caring that he didn't seem terribly appreciative. One was not helpful for the sake of being thanked, but to share knowledge and make the world a more intelligent place. Whether Raziki recognized or appreciated it was his choice, hardly something to get worked up about.
"Not really." She shrugged, "You look like a young male hyena. That doesn't tell me a thing about if you would back out of things or not, though." She snorted. "Don't expect for me to know your intentions. If I already knew those sorts of things about you, I would not be asking. I don't ask for things that I already know of." She held back the urge to laugh. How closed-minded some hyenas were! She reminded herself that not all saw the world the way she did, and fell silent.
She'd just have to remain patient with them.
"Well then, I think I'm finished with my questions." She gave a satisfied nod. "If you have anything to ask of me, please do. But if we're done here, I'll be going."

Raziki acted like he was listening intently as he drifted somewhere else on Loko o Ka's words. They weren't all that important to him. All he knew was he found the location of the Graveyard pack for future travels and he was proud about that. He had found it all on his own... as a pup. He didn't need anyone to help him.
Blinking, he had noticed she finally had stopped chattering. He would have to say something, but what did she say? Oh who cares. "Yeah." he answered, although he didn't know what she had said. "I need to go though, so I should be leaving now. I have been gone a while already from home." And with that said, he gave her a nod and stood up, heading in the opposite direction. He needed to get out of there because that hyena pup was driving him slowly insane. If anything would change his mind about joining the Graveyard pack, it would probably Loko o ka alone. He figured he could always avoid her though. He just wanted to tail out of there before the female had anything more to say.

Well that response just made no sense at all. Loko o Ka snorted and watched as Raziki began to leave, her ears flattened against her skull in an irritated fashion. He hadn't been listening to a word she was saying! A quiet growl escaped her, but she said nothing of it. So what if he didn't care what she had to say? It was his loss.
"Fine then." She said softly, so much so that it was unlikely that he would have heard her. Though it pained her to be ignored like that, she forced it to the back of her mind. Now was not the time to be wallowing in self-pity.
With that thought in her head, she stood up and started in the direction of her own home, an air of pride radiating from her. The fact that Raziki was most certainly not watching made the effect rather less satisfying, but it was her own way of showing that she didn't give a rat's tail about what he thought of her.
Nobody who was dumb enough to ignore her like that was worth giving a second thought, in her mind.
