-The moon was only beginning to rise in the sky as the sun settled beneath the hills of the horizon, but Mitsuki was already up and about. Predominately nocturnal, unless she was needed in the day, or she happened to be hunting helpful herbs and plants that only bloomed in the day, she was nonetheless an early riser. And though she had nothing in particular to do, she wandered tonight, turning her eyes up to the moon in thought and prayer.-
"I suppose I should not feel so alone. With your eye upon me I should feel nothing but content and protection. And the pride grows larger and stronger with each day. And yet..."
-A soft sigh escaped the lioness, before she pushed the thought away, eyes turning to her surroundings. Might as well make a note of what was growing in this area, in case she might need the assistance of some plant to numb and help along labor in the coming days.-

((Setting this in a little in the past whee ))
Zizi had come back from her self-set mission successful. While she had never been pregnant before, the old gal had seen others fall pregnant more times than she could count. Or rather than she could be bothered to count now - if she put her mind to it, she could probably figure out just how many lionesses had and how many times they'd born cubs. It was simply a matter of using her knowledge of family trees.
She was a Historian and it was her job to know such things after all.
But back to the point! Her mind was wandering even as her paws were. She was looking for Mitsuki. Unyenyezi was quite old now and truth be told this had probably been one of her last times to be in season. So she was worried now she actually was pregnant and besides - Mitsuki would be needed when her time came.

((*Doesn't know that you even need/want this rp anymore, but replies nonetheless*))
-Mitsuki paused, leaning forward to better inspect the strange vine before her. She tested the scent, brought a claw to it, sniffed it once more now that it weeped. Digging through her mind, she tried to identify it, sighing a little to herself that she'd become so rusty, even despite all the births lately. They'd just been so easy! Not that that was a bad thing, she simply hadn't been of much use lately other then words of encouragement.
Her back drew her up again as she heard the rustle of brush nearby, eyes turning to look. Probably just some small prey animal... right?-

((I'm still game for it if you are!))
Though they weren't close, Zizi recognised most of the scents of her pridemates. It had been just another bit of knowledge for her to pick up and add to her clear-muddled memory of facts about the pride. So she was sure she was on the right track and as she rustled her way along the trail she called out.
"Mitsuki? Are you around here? I need your help." She said cheerfully, and began to recall the names of the midwife's family just out of habit. As swiftly as she remembered the facts, as if taking down a dusty book from a shelf and clearing away the cobwebs, she let the knowledge go again. So long as she could still remember at will a family's line, the elder lioness didn't mind how hazy her mind was sometimes.
"It's Unyenyezi, the recorder."

-Mitsuki wasn't expecting a voice, so she nearly jumped when one sounded, taken a back by the fact that it actually KNEW her. The voice had been familar, but the name touched her before her mind had actually registered the whole situation.
Shifting softly, a nervous little laugh escaping her, she let the cheer and excitement of the other lioness take over her.- "Unyenyezi, it's been a bit since I saw you last."
-Composing herself from the surprise, dropping the vine she'd been messing with before, she approached the voice of her fellow pridemate.- "Been busy with all the new activity these days?"

"It has been a while." Unyenyezi agreed and sat down, smiling. Mitsuki was someone she respected professionally. All that knowledge she had about herbs and females and pregnancies and - yes. She had a very important job. Not the least because she was entrusted to correctly report what moon litters were born under so that everyone was correctly ranked.
"And yes, moreso than most know..." Of course she'd been making sure she knew the names of all newcomers and new cubs, but she'd also had her own mission, " - Unyezi permitted me to take a trip a little while ago and I was wondering if you had anything to confirm my ...suspicions? I decided it was time there were others to continue my family line in our pride before it became too late for me to do so."

-Inwardly Mitsuki was relieved by the identity of her company. Though her job in the pride was entirely social... Mitsuki often kept to herself. It wasn't that she disliked anyone, no. She simply found herself flustered by the silliness of certain cubs and new members. Not to mention embarassed by the fact that she had nothing more to talk about then the pride. Unyenyezi would understand she thought.
Her ears twitched a little, catching the words and pulling herself out of her own thoughts. Suspicions...? Her eyes narrowed a little puzzeled. Until the rest of the words fit together, her eyes falling immediately down to the belly, soft smile turning up the corners of her maw.- "My, my. It seems like all us old girls and boys are being blessed. Congratulations"
-Drawing closer still, she took in a deep inhilation, seeking any signs or subtle symbols she might find of how far along her friend was.- "About how long ago was this trip?"

"Thankyou! Just hope I'm right." She smiled.
"I've been back three days, almost four. But the...encounter was seven days ago almost eight." She had mostly blocked out her meeting with the purple maned lion - his purple had been so close to her real mate, her true mate, who'd died so long ago, that it was easy to forget him and turn him into her husband in her mind. She missed him so...hopefully he'd forgive her for this but she felt it was her duty to have cubs before she died. She was the last of her family otherwise.
"I'd also taken a bit of blue-root to keep me in season while I was out there. I'm an old girl. Got to prolong what windows of opportunity I still get." She added, knowing that blue-root was a drug a midwife'd know and that it sometimes caused phantom pregnancies because of what it was. A plant that mucked about with a lioness hormone levels. Probably not wise to use at her age but then it wasn't also wise to get pregnant at all at her age either.

-Ahhhh, so it was all very early still then. The signs would be almost invisible to most, quite subtle even to the mother or the trained. Nonetheless, she watched and scented softly as she listened to her fellow pridemember, smiling in soft reassurance.
She nodded at the use of the familar drug, an innocent enough one that she used herself from time to time. Plants that arosed fertility when there was none.. or forced birth when it was not ready would have gained a nasty retort from Mitsuki, for she truely believed that the moon god should decide it all. But blue root was harmless, only making a cycle that was already fertile stronger. It was a good idea, obviously Unyenyezi had thought ahead.
Pausing finally when the lioness had completed her story, Mitsuki offered a thoughtful smile, shifting more comfortably in her position. She was not usually the bearer of blessed news, and that alone sent a slight ripple of excitement through her.- "Well dear... I can't say with 100% accuracy just yet, the signs are so weak within the first weeks, but I do very much believe your trip has been a success."
-Leaning forwards with a tenderness actually fairly uncommon in the overly serious lioness, she pressed a faint puffed kiss of good luck against the other's cheek.- "By the third week I can know with absolute certainty, but in the meantime take good care of yourself, rest and eat well, make plans for the future, speak with the great moon. And in another week or so I will give you the good news again."

She placed a paw over one of Mitsuki's gently, her own gesture of affection and of thanks, beaming. She'd been so hoping to hear an affermative and would take the best care of herself to ensure she didn't loose this, so that her cubs would grow strong and healthy. Her family line would continue after all! She'd yet to grow into a mother's love for her children and right now considered that her very important goal. Perhaps given her job it wasn't so surprising.
"Thankyou so much. I admire your skills greatly and was hoping that even though it was so early, you'd be able to perhaps tell me yes or no." She smiled. "Even if it's not 100% certain that's blessed blessed news. I'll take the best care and pray to the great moon."
She withdrew her paw and looked up, gauging the time by the position of the stars and the moon. "I said I'd meet with one of the newer members, to learn what they know of their family tree. It's later than I thought - I'd better get going soon.. but thank you Mitsuki."
Unyenyezi bobbed her head respectfully, still smiling. That smile wouldn't fade anytime soon it seemed.

((Iris is a dork who thought she put the end post on this long ago. XD Apparently I just thought I should do that though. Anyway, FIN heart )
-It was strange, this feeling of excitement and hope was so much stronger than usual. But it wasn't a bad feeling at all and as the lioness departed to do her own duty, Mitsuki turned her eyes upward. Closing them, she offered a prayer of her own for the lioness and the babies that she was certain, deep down in her heart, were growing within her. The life of a midwife was a nice one, mostly relaxing, important, sometimes challenging, and always exciting. But when the one she shared the journey with was a friend... well that just seemed to make it all the much better.-
