I was playing CS:S (CounterStrike: Source) the other day, and someone said "pwned". I corrected him, saying "It's Owned.".
He replied, by saying: "No... idiot, it's pwned!" (< edited for grammatical and censorship issues).
(^ Note, this was after several repetitions of me telling him it was 'owned')

I thought "pawned" was acceptable now, just "pwned" wasn't. Of course I use neither, so what do I know; however, I do know it isn't "pwned."

Thanks for the heads up. I had no clue it wasn't right.

Strangely, from my time of playing online games, I've grown somewhat accustomed to "pwned". sweatdrop
In a lazy gamer's sense (prime example: my boyfriend, but I still love him anyways) it's alright, but if I ever see someone typing it out as "pwnd", they'll be down for a beating! evil
(In my irregularly so-called mind, if you're going to type out an unintentionally-typed out word such as "pwned", at least do it right. sweatdrop )

Oh. OHH. I thought "pwnd/pwned" was supposed to abbreviate "pre-owned". So would it be like "p-owned"?
Wait! Here it is: pwn. [urbandictionary.com link]

Well, I actually use the word pwnt online at times. ._. Is this correct? (Note:It is pronounced pp-nn(i)t. I can say it in real life, so I think it qualifies...>.>)

Isn't pwned a typo of owned that just sort of stuck? For some reason it's not a word I have a problem with, maybe since it's sort of gamer vocabulary now...I'm much more concerned with the butchering of normal language. neutral

Oh... yes, yes, I get it.
Thank you so much for the link, YourLovelyBear. Turns out 'pwned', 'pwnt', and others of the kind are all evolutions of 'pwn', which is a completely meaningless typo that, for some reason, gamers adopted and incorporated it into thier vocabulary.
It says- on the urban dictionary site YourLovelyBear was kind enough to direct us to- "Originally dates back to the days of WarCraft, when a map designer mispelled "Own" as "Pwn". What was originally supose to be "player has been owned." was "player has been pwned"
Fascinating. My world of words has been enlarged.

I learn something new every day.
... I always thought 'pwn' meant pound... which I guess could mean the same thing...
