Why You REALLY Need Your Beauty Sleep!
Taken from an article at work ripped out of a magazine, I wish I knew what one!
1) In a study of women and men between the ages of 32-59, scientists found that those who regularly slept five hours or less has roughly twice the risk of hypertnsion of those who slept seven or eight hours...
Hmmm (I'll remember that when I turn 30 in another decade, lol)
2) Researchers at NY Presbyterian Hospital/Weill Cornell Medical Center found that napping didn't interfere with sleep that evening, and that the volunteers performed better on cofnitive tests immediately following their siesta and on the following day than they did on days they didn't nap.
3) In a study in the American Journal of Epidemiology, women who slept seven hours or more put on less weight over 16years than women who slept less, even if the other women exercised. Those who slept only six hours a night were 12% more likely to put on more than 30 pounds; if the women slept five hours or less, they were 32% more likely to gain that much. Other studies have found that lack of sleep impacts hormones that regulate appetite (ghrelin and leptin) and that a higher BMI is portionally linked to less sleep. One solution is to set the alarm so that you get your full night of sleep, and schedule your exercise for later in the day.
4) Here's the good news- Several studies have found that insomniacs reliably underestimate the amount of shuteye they get by as much as an hour.
And the comic of the day is...
