If I'm not mistaken isn't ice for ice sculptures pretty clear? As I recall the white stuff are the impurities in the water. If you use distilled water (without the added minerals for flavor) then you might get some pretty clear ice. biggrin
... then it was probably intentional.

It's the suspended oxygen inside the water that makes it not clear. Possibly some matter in it as well but I'm sure it's mostly the air.
