It was early. Lamya sat on the beach, facing the ocean. Her pale eyes danced across the water and peered intently at the edge of the horizon, where the sun was just beginning to show its bright and shining face. She watched in amazement as light almost exploded over the edge and the clouds in the sky, which had barely been visible moments before, turned first pink and then yellow. This was her favorite time of day. Sea birds soared overhead, crying joyfully at the dawn. The little girl inhaled the sharp scent of salt and fresh air and thought that this truly must be the most beautiful place in the world. She had heard enough of the old stories to know that her ancestors and the founders of this magnificent pride must have been very wise and able lions, to have chosen such a home. It was almost magical. Lamya, who was usually bouncing all over the place, was filled with a strange sense of awe. She was too young yet to understand what it meant, but she knew that there wasn't anywhere else she'd rather be.

Up bright and early, as usual, Miminiwa wore a bright smile upon his maw as he ventured toward the shoreline to watch as the sun broke over the horizon. His favorite part of the morning. He sat by the water's edge watching with awe and amazement outline on his features as the sun spread it's warmth, and light over the water as though it was reaching out to someone. To him.
As the light crossed over him it highlighted his already bright features making him look even more sun-struck than usual. It was then he heard a voice.
Those that walk in the path of light walk in the path of greatness...
Brows furrowing together he turned his head looking around for whomever it was that had spoken to him. Seeing no one, except a black dot in the distance he shrugged it off. Maybe he hadn't heard anything except his own thoughts.
Then he realized that it was a person in the distance. Excitement lighting his features he bounded off in the direction of the black dot.
"Helloooooooo!"

The sudden cry of an unfamiliar voice caught her off guard. She'd left most of her litter mates still asleep and it was so early that Lamya hadn't thought anybody else would be up yet. The little black fuzzball turned to peer at the source of the noise and blinked in surprise at the colors of the other youth racing towards her. He looked just like the sunrise! For a moment, she thought that he might have been a ghost, or a figment of her imagination. His colors blended so wonderfully into the newly sunlit sky that she didn't know what to think at first.
"Hello?" she called back lamely, deciding that it was better to say something now and risk looking like a fool rather than a jerk. "Are you... real?"

At her question laughter rang out from his maw. Bright just like him. "Of course I am silly!" He smiled sticking his tongue out at her. "How can I not be real when I'm standing right here in front of you?" He chirped happily bounding up to the dark furred female. As if to prove his point he pushed his nose against her shoulder to show her that he was solid and real. "See?"
Then he stepped back still smiling all too brightly at her. "What would I be if I wasn't real?" He asked the smile disappearing as he pondered his own question, brows creasing together. Suddenly and idea struck him and he let out a gasp jumping back a tiny bit. "Would I be a ghost! Oh that would be terrifying wouldn't it?" He exclaimed covering his maw with his paws as if the thought truly scared him.
He shook his head. "Oh no, no that wouldn't be fun at all if I were a ghost!" He paused as his features twisted with concentration. "Then I would be able to play! That would be so sad!"
So very, very sad indeed.

This young lion was very bright, and very energetic. He talked very much and very fast, and Lamya felt herself warming to him almost instantly.
"I don't know what you would be if you weren't real," she told him honestly, and then swatted at him playfully with her paw when he poked her in the shoulder with his nose, "but I wouldn't be scared of you if you were a ghost."
Ghosts were like shadows, after all, and the latter was her muse. While the idea of talking to somebody who was actually dead intimidated her a little, Lamya would have tried her damnedest not to show it.
"What's your name?"

"If I wasn't a ghost maybe I'd be an imaginary friend, wait!" he exclaimed eyes widening as the thought came to him. "I'd be your imaginary friend! Wouldn't that be fun?" he asked still grinning brightly at the darker female. "Oooh or maybe I'd be your muse! No. I couldn't be your muse," he lamented pouting a bit as his brows wrinkled together. "I'm a lion and lions just aren't muses," he told her in a matter-of-fact kind of way even including a firm nod.
He was getting off on his little tangent unaware that she had tried to say something in return to him and only returned his attention back to her as she batted his nose away from her. He pressed his lips together as he looked down at his nose going cross-eyed in the process. That in turn set him a little off balance and he found himself falling over onto his side with a fit of giggles. "Are you sure you wouldn't be scared?" He asked patting at her face playfully. "Cause I bet I'd be a very scary ghost," he told her with confidence.
"Names Miminiwa but you can call me Mimi, y'know, if ya want," he told her staring at her upside down. "What's your name?" he asked tilting his head getting sand all over his budding mane. But he didn't mind, he was having fun!

Unless the way the shadows spoke to her counted, Lamya didn't have any imaginary friends. As he continued to speak, however, she was easily caught up in the excitement of his words and suddenly found herself wanting one. It occurred to her to ask him about that, but it was very difficult to get a word in.
She watched, giggling, when he went cross-eyed and collapsed onto his side. His cheer and laughter were very contagious, and Lamya found herself liking him very much.
"I am sure I wouldn't be scared," Lamya informed him with a confident nod of her head, "I'm not scared of anything."
It was a bit of a stretch, but not necessarily a lie.
A smile lit up her face when he told her his name. "I'm Lamya. Mimi, would you be my imaginary friend? I would like one and I don't have one yet."

"Nu-uh!" He replied sticking his tongue out at her. She couldn't be fearless, everyone had something that scared them. "Everyone's afraid of something," he said in a matter-of-fact kind of tone. That was something he was positive. He himself was scared of something. What, however he was unaware of. He was too busy focusing on the good of things to really figure out what frightened him.
Not that he minded, it was probably better that way.
"Hiya Lamya!" he replied happily before pressing his lips together in thought. "I dunno if I really count since I'm not imaginary but sure!" he told her laughing. "I'd be delighted to be your imaginary friend!"

"Not me," Lamya insisted with an obstinate shake of her head, "I'm not scared of anything!"
It was probably true. She hadn't yet come face to face with anything that had frightened her, after all. Who was he to say that everyone was afraid of something? How could he possibly know that?
He was very presumptuous. Still, she liked him. Especially because he was so eager to be her imaginary friend!
Her face lit up and she beamed at him.
"Oh, that's awesome!" She declared, and then paused. "Uh. What's an imaginary friend do?"

"Nu-uh! I bet I can figure out something you're scared of just you wait!" he stated very determined to do just that. Of course he didn't mean now, but it was implied that eventually he'd figure out just what frightened her, whatever that may be. "Not now, but soon. Promise!" he clarified looking very seriously at her. He was a very, very determined creature.
"I agree," he replied scooting closer to her. He liked her, she was fun to talk to and didn't seem to mind his rather...odd behavior. Actually she seemed to encourage it, to him at least.
He couldn't help but burst into a fit of laughter, he was just so amused! "We're imaginary! Only you can see us, no one else can," he told her very seriously. "And we're your very bestest best friend!" Now that was something he was actually sure of.

"I bet you can't!" Lamya challenged playfully. Secretly, however, she was impressed with the bright young male beside her. His confidence seemed to know no bounds, and she got the impression that he was probably always right.
Except for when he was wrong.
He scooted closer and she, feeling friendly, allowed it. Mimi was very nice. She had no reason to oppose him.
"Oh," she grinned delightedly at his explanation, "I like that very much. You'll be my best friend, and I won't have to share you with anyone else?"
It reminded her a little of the voices in her head. No one else heard the same ones she did.

Mimi pouted as she told him she didn't think he could do it. Well, he was just going to have to prove her wrong. He knew he could do it, he just had to try. "Ooooh," he grumbled shaking his head at her. "That smells like a challenge. A challenge will gladly accept and win!" he told her, a smile cracking across his maw. He could never stay sad or upset for long. "Just you wait and see."
Now the pink male was never actually aware of when he was right or wrong, he tended to charge ahead blindly insisting upon whatever he was trying to prove regardless of any of the circumstances and more often than not it turned out in his favor
Your sense of intuition is incredible and admirable. There was that voice again! Bewildered he looked around him, confusion writing itself upon his features as he tried to figure out who this mysterious person was.
"Did you hear that?" he asked gaze flickering back to her briefly before spotting the sun and everything clicked. "Nevermind, it's not important," he assured her with a firm nod. "Anyway...As your imaginary friend yes, you won't have to share me with anyone!"

"I will wait and I will see," Lamya agreed with a sage nod of her head that looked strange on such a young body, "But I like challenges too, and I will also win it."
She didn't know if she was telling the truth or not. That wasn't the purpose. Lamya was doing what Lamya did best; mimicking, just like the voices told her to.
"Hear what?" She blinked at him, and watched his shadow dance. "I listen to the shadows, but they aren't saying anything right now."
Then, she smiled. "Good. I don't want to share you with anyone."
Except maybe the shadows. But they would have to wait and see.

"No you won't~" he replied in a sing-songy tone. "Can't be two winners silly, only one will win," he chimed seemingly unconcerned by her words and her own determination. He also didn't seem to notice that she was merely mimicking him, he was too busy enjoying himself to focus that much.
"Oh just the whispers of the sun," he responded coolly to her question before gasping. He hadn't meant to say that! Oops, couldn't be helped now. "Er...s'rry, ignore that?" he asked grinning stupidly.
He couldn't help but laugh, he liked her. A lot. She was funny! "Okay, okay. I'll do my best to be the greatest imaginary friend ever!" he chirped unaware that he would, in fact, be one of the worst.

"There can so be two winners, silly," She was arguing for the sake of arguing. Charming, in an irritating, friendly sort of way, Lamya grinned cheekily and showed Mimi all of her teeth.
"The sun whispers to you?" Lamya gasped in wonder and turned in the direction of the horizon, squinting up at the bright yellow orb as it continued its journey across the morning sky. "I wonder what it tells you. Does it tell you to be bright?"
If it did, then Lamya thought Mimi did a good job of listening to his muse.
"I should be your imaginary friend too," she told him, in the same chirping tone that he had used.
