Domevlo's feet sank in the sogy soil, as he took his first step into the swamplands. He looked at the ground, and though one not aquainted with the grimey soil would most likely sneer, no emotion came over his scarred face. He instead, turned his golden eyes back ahead, and moved on, senses bombarded by the smell and feel of the swamp.

As he moved on, his nose became slightly more accustomed to the smell, and soon he picked up other scents. Living scents. He stopped, and perked his ears fowards to listen. Had once again he stepped into the territory of another?

Maliciousness that had once consumed him had ebbed away in the time he had spent away from 'the world'. But memories remained. He could well remember the look in the eyes of those who spurned him, and those he had slain. If not but to avoid attack, he would call to the inhabitants of the swamp. Then at least he might bet a propper rejection.

The low rumble of his voice as he called out his greeting roar seemed almost consumed by the groggy, wet, surroundings. He wondered if they had even heard him?

Someone was here. Asali'jua, resting in the outskirts of the swamp, lifted her head at the sound of the roar. Not that she was surprised - she'd seen someone coming this morning. That was, in fact, the reason she was out her in the first place, instead of drowsing next to her Consort. She was waiting, and it was about time whoever-it-was showed up. Peace and quiet and time away from children and grandchildren and pride was all well and good, but dozing was considerably less enjoyable when you were alone, at least when you were old.

The Queen roused herself and stretched, and ambled in the direction of the call.

Domevlo soon caught sight of the female, and sat, ceasing his calls. He tried to make himself appear less menacing, which with his stature was a funny concept. He lowered his gaze respectfully, keeping his head bowed till she was before him.

Mentally he tried to figure out what he would say. He had learned a way with words, but their eloquence did not come without much prior thought. He felt his wretched heart beat in his chest. Oh, how he so longed to live amongst others of his kind. To know what it was like to care and be cared for by a family unit. More than anything he wanted to satisfy the bountiful care within him, and vanquish the hate. And he would try. If there were any willing to listen, and set aside aesthetic pleasantry. For that his surely didn't have.

...well. He was not the most handsome of lions, was he? In fact, he was really rather the opposite, except for his color. That was quite nice! Either way, however, she was unbothered; it wasn't as though she was in the market for a suitor. She was too old for that.

The lioness approached witha kind smile, and sat before him when she was close enough for conversation. "Hello," she said warmly, rich voice unaffected by age, "Welcome to the swamp."

'Welcome.' The words warmed him and renewed his hope. He had very well hoped that the creatures of the swamp would be the ones to overlook his scars. It was something he pondered when his foot first sank into the damp ground. And words could not express, as he glaned up, the way he felt at recieving that kind smile.

"Greetings," Domvelo replied, with a smile of his own, though it was lopsided, as if he didn't have much feeling on the one side of his face.
"My name is Domvelo." His own voice was telling of his solitude, for it had the sound and rumble of someone who seldom used it, along with age and wearyness.

"Domevlo," she repested. Her tail curled around, and she smiled again. "I am Asali'jua, Queen of the Jini-misemi. "Tell me, what brings you here?"

He again gave a respectful dow of his head, before answering.
"I was traveling. Looking for a place where one such as myself can live, happily, the life nature intended for all its creatures. I am a lonely soul, who no longer will hide from the cruelties of others. I had long ago exiled myself from other beings, because of the horrible things I have done due to other's cruelty towards myself. But there is a part of me stronger than all the evil within that longs to be accepted among my own kind, and share the abundant love within my heart. Fellowship, more than anything, is my hearts desire."

He closed his golden eyes. In his confession, he had opened the door to many questions about himself, and about his character. He was dangerous, just as he was loving.

"Well, that's more than I usually get," she said after moment, with a chuckle - not mocking at all, but the old and good-natured kind. Her seriousness returned, however, and she nodded respectfully. "Few have I met who seem to know themselves so well, and fewer still who will share what they know. Perhaps this may be the place for you."

"Tell me, what do you think of the notion of spirits?"

"I wish not to hide anything," He nodded, in reply to her first statement. He mostly wished to have everything put out there for her to see, so he would not get his hopes up, only to be torn down by a secret.

"Spirits," he began, "I believe then to be everywhere, a part of everything. Guiding our footfalls, and changing our paths frequently. Though we cannot see them, their evidence is all around. In you and me, the air we breathe, and ground which we walk. The rain that falls, the sun that shines,..." Domevlo stopped. He had a tendency to ramble, even when he wasn't 'putting everything out there'.

"Well then!" Asali'jua beamed, quite pleasantly surprised. He wasn't simply open to the idea of spirits - he was already on board! "This may be just the place for you indeed. You're welcome to stay with us awhile, so that we can get to know each other better and see for sure."

Domevlo helt his heart soar. He gave a bright smile, pleased beyond words. He hadn't expected to so easily stumble upon a place that would accept him. His eyes watered slightly, a liguid gold, as he felt the most profound of emotions.

"Thankyou," He replied, eternally grateful to the queen.
