Oh how to explain this tidbit now...Mahewa glanced over a shoulder to be sure the lioness was still there. Yes...Part of him wondered what was wrong with him, why he'd suddenly decided to become so foolish. The other half simply rebutted that this was not only the way of nature, but his job as well. Wasn't it the role of the Neumar to find other demons by any means? Even if it meant...creating them himself? He shook his head. Where had that thought come from? Some trickery of the gyspie-dancer, no doubt.

"Aran'shale!" He called into the cavernous mouth of the cave they were waiting at. "I need to talk with you!" Another glance back, and this time the huge lion stepped back to put himself beside the female. He wouldn't lose her, no, not yet. He knew the moment he stopped his song she had begun to lose interest...he could only hope it would remain long enough to pass his...idea...before the kings.

And if not, he could always whistle up a little tune to summon her back. For once it seemed the dancer had been snared by someone else's beat.

Why am I here? Nasain's steely gray eyes blinked slowly and dully. Clipped wings were not part of this deal, so why did she feel like such a caged bird? She sunk into her newly found 'place' next to Hewa's side and sighed breathlessly and almost soundlessly as her heart drummed up a new sound and sent her blood throughout her veins and muscles while waiting for the whom ever Hewa was calling for.

Nasain wasn't sure how she had become so captivated by this pride. It couldn't have been this big fluffy male and only him. That was something so small. Something that she would have usually just thrown away at the thought of it. It wasn't worth her time or effort, so why was she here? Sitting so comfortably next to him. So strange. So very strange indeed.

"How long do I have to wait here?" She asked, slightly annoyed.

It didn't take too terribly long for one of the two leaders of the pride to appear, in fact. Verge was out and about for the moment but Iartuupe came to the mouth of that den after a moment, eyeing the two of them.

"Mahewa," he said simply to the male, a bit of a challenging growl in his tone. The female, he didn't greet at all... he knew that she wasn't a part of his pride, and wondered why the dark lion had brought her here.

Hewa offered Nasian a pleased look when she moved to be beside him. And he was pleased, both that she hadn't run off, and that she chose to be beside him. Comfort around him was critical for the...plan. For a glimmer of a moment his strength wavered, his acceptance of his plan tripped...but it did not fall. The lioness was of use to the pride, to him...

And it had been so very long since he'd had someone to counterpoint his song.

He chuckled at her annoyed tone and quirked a brow rakishly. "Not long, there's always one Aran'shale or another around. You should be respectful when he comes...neither of them is particularly friendly, I warn." He made sure to be experessive with his tone, making it rise and fall to be sure he had the female's attention. "While we wait, perhaps you can think up something for me to sing to you?"

His attention was drawn forward again by Iartuupe's appearance. He nodded at his name and bit back a smile...Iar was obviously in a mood today. "Aran'shale, I have brought this female, Nasian, into our pride...I wish to ask permission for her to remain here for...a while. I wish her to stay with me, specifically."

Nasain moved closer to the lovely sound bursting into the air from Hewa's well trained vocal chords. The sound was brilliant, enough to make her want to sing along and spin in lovely little cirvles for him. Make him happy, make him smile, make him sing his song louder! The thought made her tremble. This male had her under a spell. A dirty, rotten spell. Her gray eyes watched him and as she opened her mouth to speak, a new voice spouted off from her left.

Nasain held her steady spot, snapping her teeth together and locking her jaw. There was an air about the male that had come in. Malicous, blood thirsty. It was in the way he moved and spoke. There was a twang of bitter and pain that made her cringe and attracted her to the odd new comer. She laughed at herself. In the middle of a pride and everyone ELSE was a new comer? How pleasant. Pleasantly WRONG.

Her mouth was shut, sealed tight. She hoped she wouldn't need to speak to much for fear of getting her pretty little face scratched up a bit.

At that, Iartuupe shifted his gaze to the female for a moment, eyeing her. Well ... at the least, she did not look like a weakling. "Why is that, Mahewa?" he asked, voice almost a low purr - and yet threatening at the same time.

Much as he knew that they needed new pride members, more strength and power... he wasn't sure what to make of him asking permission for her to stay 'for a while'...

Hewa was glad Nasian had chosen to stay close, stay quiet. One never knew how Iartuupe would act...indeed, he seemed rather irate today. "Isn't it my job to bring back fitting lions for the pride?" He stepped a bit forward, and between Nasian and Iar. "She has the colors...and she has spirit." How could he explain that she was a temptress like none he'd seen before?

"She will stay as long as I want." He glanced back at the lioness. He had captured her, he knew. Perhaps not forever, but long enough..."I think she can be...of use to us. To me, and the pride."

She scoffed. 'As long as HE wanted?' Nasain thought, there was a spiteful sting in the words that floated through her head. She was infatuated, that was for sure, but she wouldn't want or dream to be Hewa's precious possesion all her life and her extended time in the pride lands.

She broke her silence. It was much to much for her to remain quiet and appealing to look at while this male, dear as he may be, danggled her in front of the vicious lion that wanted to consume her soul and leave her trapped in the dank dungeon that, while she did like it, kept her in secret and scornful of the outer light that had once graced her pelt.

"I will stay as long as I please." Her voice was sweet yet filled with venom, "and as I see it with my own clear eyes, I, and any cubs I may have within my life time, will stay for an eternity if it keeps me in close contact to those like me." Sharp and to the point.

Iar blinked at the female's sudden words and then actually barked out something that was almost like a laugh. Well ... she certainly had fire. Had Nasain stayed quiet the entire time and never spoken for herself, things might have been different.

However, if it was going to be like that... "What is it about you that makes you like us?" he asked, focusing on her now - wondering what she would answer.

Hewa glanced quickly between the king and Nasian. Oh god...He let her run her course, knowing it was far too late to stop her now, but he too stood and stepped up beside her, listening intently, obviously ready to interject if he felt he needed to. He did find a bit of relief in that Iar was focused on her now. She seemed content to charge right through the matter regardless of the amount of aid he offered, so why not see how far she could get on her own.

"You all have a passion for fighting something that, in the end, will gain you something that you find a necessity." Nasain said analytically and kept her eyes on Iar, hoping she was appealing to him in some small way while her insides led her into a deeper thought that refused to stay in her head.

"In the time that I've been sneaking, creeping, crawling about in these shadows! I've been studying and watching. Why? For the purpose of seeing if I should be here, of course!" Her blood was beating in her ears. She wanted to be here, but how can one be dignified while begging and pleading for a way to stay?

Nasain continued, lowering her sweet honeyed voice to appear more put together, "The few that I've met around here are driven, strong. They know what they want and it's something that's embedded in their spirit, not just their head. It's like a permanent crazy! But nothing crazy at all at the very same time. It's fighting for you life, but it isn't you life at all. It's more like fighting for the one thing that means your life. My dancing is my life without that I'm a shell. Hewa's life is his song and without that he's a colorless bead in a pile of vivid eccentric hues!"

She sighed, feeling that she couldn't quite explain what she wanted to get across. Articulation. Why couldn't her bright magniloquent language come in hand right now?

Iar rumbled at her explanation - considering her words for a moment. What she said sounded much like what he felt at times, so he was inclined to allow her to join them. However, there was one more formality to take care of.

No matter her words, he must be sure she was worthy by way of a little test. "Very well ... there is one more thing you must do to join us. A final test, if you will." Crouching down, he eyed the female for a moment.

Then he said simply, "Defend yourself!" and attacked her.

Nasain gasped and tried to duck away. The worst part of these wretched lands had to be the constant bloodshed and fear. Maybe not to another lioness, but to her fighting had to be her worst nightmare. The thought of her own face getting ripped and slicked to ribbons honestly and bluntly: scared the living begeebers out of her!

She grunted when she felt the larger lion slam into her and bared her teeth while trying to slice her pearly claws into his large body while protecting her lovely little face the best she could. Where was the hatred and strenght when she needed it most? Subsided? So quickly? Could that happen? Nasain sure as hell hoped not.
