There's a furry guy I know who I met at a gathering. He's an artist and a pretty good one at that. He runs art booths at anime and furry conventions.

He's also hardcore conservative and a Republican, a fact I didn't know about until much later. He blames liberals and democrats for everything, and seems to use every post in his blog to make fun of Obama and talk about Obama screwing up the country.

It makes me wonder if you're capable of being a furry, and being, say, a Republican, or conservative. It seems that a lot of what the Republican party stands for, especially being against gay rights and gay marriage, would go against the furry fandom which has a LOT of gay and bi members.

In any case, I do happen to know several nerds who are conservative as well, including one anime and comic nerd who's very fundamentally christian, which makes no sense. Boggles my mind it does.

I myself am moderate liberal. Although I vote more democrat than anything else, I do not register as such as I want the freedom to vote for the candidate I like, not the party.

As this is about politics let's keep this civil and not resort to childish name calling or bashing....

I have a sneaky feeling that I know which fella you were talking too there, Lee, but I'll keep my trap shut. sweatdrop

Needless to say, the thought of furry lifestylers being active in government and policy making gives me the heebie jeebies, though I myself am slanting myself more moderate these days, considering I see both far left and far right ideals too far removed from reality. Then again, that's just MY opinion, innit?

I've met a fundie Christian furry on SL before. ...Not going to get into it like I originally planned, but of course what conversation there was quickly devolved into arguing. I sent them a nice little notecard afterward with a bunch of legitimate resources explaining...well, I'll just use the phrase that says it all, "Thank God homosexuality isn't a sin." razz

As for your poll, it's...very limited. It doesn't count other ranges...And even in the US there's more than just liberal/conservative....and for Europe, I've heard many times that many conservative groups are comparable to the liberals in America, so it's not very exact...

If I were to make a suggestion, I would add the following to the poll:
Socialist
Communist
Fascist/Nationalist (Or are they different? I can't remember.)
Monarchist (Just for fun, don't have to add it. razz )

More could be added, such as "green"...but...yeah...

I consider myself democrat, but not liberal. That is really all I want to say on that, because actually getting into various political views is dangerous territory. For some reason people cannot seem to be able to listen to an opposing point of view without taking things personally.

One thing I will say is that all sides are full of s**t, to some degree. There is propaganda spread no matter which side of the spectrum you fall and there are always extremist that will use misinformation and half truths to push their agenda.

It's no one who's here on Gaia, at least I don't think he's on Gaia.

I just can't see someone being fundie christian and furry, considering what a lot of the fandom has going for it (gays, bi, transgender, not to mention the weird porn... do I even have to mention Doug Winger????).

I mean, being furry to begin with seems like it would be an abomination against the Lord or something. razz

As for the poll, I did it on a pure whim and didn't put much thought into it. I can always make a new one.

Oh, I know, I know. Still, I still got the inkling. Since not too many get to talk to that fella and live.

I'd like to think I'd follow the party with the most common sense. Too far left or too far right; if you lean too far either way you're an idiot all the same.

I'm not much into politics, but I have been told I have very liberal views and out of the two major parties tend to lean more into the Democratic spectrum. I'm registered as not having a political party, which is awesome because around election time I don't get spammed with junk mail and phone calls like my registered-Democrat parents. biggrin
When voting I go with whomever I think will ******** up the least, regardless of party.

To fundies? Definitely! To people with some kind of intelligence and a heart? Absolutely not, but that's obvious. razz

Me and some friends joked once about how long this person would last in the fandom. None of us thought they would for very long. whee

You're not talking about that one Fox guy, right? Really good art, some furry flash stuff, but pretty damn conservative? Forgot his name, but that's not who I'm talking about. The guy I'm talking about isn't a fox.

A good artist that's a fox? That doesn't really narrow it down.

Personally, I'm fairly neutral although I call myself a liberal republican.

I'm catholic... and really? the dude (garek) wanted "communist" as a option XD ballz no. Everyone with common sense knows that communism is a BS fantasy utopia. It'll never work. The idea of a place with no lower class is...is just not...good. If a doc gets paid as much as a janitor (e.i your mom) Then who would want to be a doc if they can get the same money as someone who sweeps floors as oppose to surgery.

ANYWAY, Im on the fence with it, im an independent.

Politics can get disgustingly tricky, since the views of an individual generally don't all fall together within one singular category. I'm some sort of left-libertarian - maybe some sort of anarchist (libertarian socialist, maybe), I'm not sure. All I know is that I'm an semi-agnostic atheist, bisexual, fairly anti-organized religion, pro-culture, kinda Native American in my views on the environment, and blahblahblah - I have a mixed view of things that balances freedom and minimal law structure. It's complicated, so who knows if I really fall under any group at all. It might be safest to claim independent left.
