Do You?!?
  Yes, I do.
  Never.
  On occasion.
  Yes, but don't tell anyone.

I am ashamed to say that I use them. The occasianal 'OMG', 'OMFG', 'WTF'.
And I accidently wrote 'Orly?' once. Oh, lord...

Do you ever use them? Whether it be by mistake, on a whim, or to make fun?

I'll type "OMG" to be funny.
I say "be arr be" in real life though. It began as a funny thing, and now it is just habit. The shame!

For the Rose is a Beautiful Flower
I see nothing wrong with acronyms, as long as you don't overuse them. I do tend to stick to ones that are likely to be known in the forum where I'm typing, if I were to talk about an "NPZR" you would be like "Huh?" but on the Kingdom of Loathing forums everyone knows it's a "Ninja Pirate Zombie Robot"

I use the "WTF" acronym most of the time instead of the real sentence because it sounds a little less offensive; I'm like that. I would love to say the real thing but I just can't.
"Orly?" also comes in handy when I'm mocking someone and I usually say it more than type it.

Yes, I do you use acronyms, but only for long phrases such as AMRAAM (Advanced Medium Range Air to Air Missile).

I only use internet acronyms when I'm mocking something. Sometimes I say "Oh really?" as "Orly," but you can still tell what I'm trying to say.

Common acronyms (for example, MRI, MIT, ASAP) are a part of everyone's vocabulary, so I use them when appropriate.

Probably the only one I use in often is ROFL and I normally just say it randomly, but other than that, not really.

By the way: MyOwnBestCritic, your username reminds me of the song "My own enemy" by Thousand Foot Krutch.

I use them in chats that have letter limits to get more information in at one time, and sometimes when Instant Messaging or Texting. I use the "txt tlk cht sp33k" sometimes to prove a point or add an element of sarcasm to an otherwise neutral statement.

I have to. The Navy is somewhat famous for its use of "Alphabet Soup," so I get to be familiar with obscure things like LPO, NEX, CSD, RCPO, DMTI, and dozens (dozens!) of others.
