Twilight. Not quite night, but not quite day. It was the time when clarity blurred and edges became hazy as darkness mixed with light, fooling the eyes. The same could be said of the occassion. A soft white shape shifted through the shadows. A pelt speckled with blue, but littered with scars: Mvua'wingu. She was an adolescent now and time was surpassing her, but things inside were growing just as fast - if not faster - than her outwardly developing appearance. She was making her way to the currently deserted sandy training ground with determination, where she had agreed to meet with a certain someone. Someone who had been blurring the lines of all that she knew, just like twilight.

Quote:
How often had he gone about this particular song and dance? More than he could count. But these days, Mvua was one of the best spars he could get. With a small smirk, the young adolescent kneaded the ground of the desert, his eyes dark and molten in the sparse light of the twilight. And when he saw the pale form heading towards him, he smirked lightly.

Just as she had expected, there he was, waiting for her. This was often the only time of day they could get together and have an honest fight; during the night, there were too many other lions around, and it had to be embarrassing for the poor lad to get beaten by a slave. She smiled at this thought, though they were truthfully rather equally matched fighters these days. Still, there was privacy. "Hello, sir Nyota," she said, bowing respectfully. She had grown too accustomed to calling him sir, along with everyone else, of course. It wasn't her place to do otherwise; the demons demanded respect as part of their nature, at least coming from a non-demon like herself. She sighed inwardly, fully aware of how she was "different."

"You know you have no need to call me sir when we're alone," Nyota reprimanded gently, his lips pulling into a grin. Demon or not, he respected Mvua. She was an excellent fighter, and was always respectful whether he wanted her to be or not.

Mvua's skin grew hot beneath her fur at his reprimand but she smiled at his smile. She knew he no longer cared for the formality, but old habits die hard; she doubted she would ever stop calling him sir. But that wasn't the topic of conversation she wanted to talk about this time. There was something heavier on her mind - or was it her heart?

Mvua and Nyota had grown up together. Nyota was the son of Mvua's master, and Mvua had often been the sparring partner for both. Of course, when it came to Hakuna, Mvua was treated as more of a plaything. She put up a good fight, of course, but the point of her life was to cause amusement for her sadistic master. But that was beside the point. In the closeness between Nyota and Mvua, the two had grown, well, close. Fighting was one thing, but something else was happening now.

Mvua couldn't take it much longer. She had to say something. "Nyota," she began, her voice soft and quiet. She glanced down at her paws, but her eyes wandered to his own. They stayed there; not looking at him, exactly, but still seeing him. "I need to tell you something. I know it's not my place to suggest something like this, but we've known each other for a long time, and, y'know, we've been friends for a while now," she started speaking too fast; her nervousness made her want to have to explain herself, despite the fact that she knew it wasn't necessary - was it? "But, Nyota, I think I...." Mvua's eyes traveled up his legs and past his fresh mane, finally connecting with his own waiting eyes. "I think I love you."
