I want to liven up this Guild and get some people involved in something. So I thought, why not have a shooting competition? This isn't sponsored by the guild (yet?), it's a pure ArmasTermin creation. I'm thinking anyone can join and the entry fee would be 500 gold. The winner would recieve all collected gold, so the more entrants the more competition but the bigger reward. I thought about it being 1000 gold for entry, but this is more about getting people out to shoot and bragging rights than gold. Plus, it's time we all got to see how good we are, am I right?

I'm now looking for a target with Google Images and think I found a good one we could use as a standard and print out, but I need to test it to find if its okay. Then I'll set up distance marks. Any pistol caliber will be accepted, from .22 short to 500 Magnum and this will be a pistol competition. One entry per person, possibly print the target three times, try three times, and send in your best. Name make, model, and caliber of gun used in entry.

Once it's set up I'll start a due date. Maybe a month or two following the starting date. Now I'll need your input and ideas for this. So to clarify, this isn't open yet, it's not ready, but you can say if you're interested. I'll need some judges, too, depending on how its decided to be scored. So if you're unable or not interested in taking part, you still might be able to help there.

EDITS:
4.30.09 - Would be from a standing position.
Here are a few quick sig pictures I made to advertise for the competition. If you use one, please link the sig to this post or the guild in general. Feel free to make and post your own, too. I made these up pretty quick, nothing special.

I did some tests on a particular target printed out. Used my pellet revolver with 8" barrel and my compact Glock spring airsoft gun to gauge distances. I think a 25 foot distance would be a good one, both because it seemed neither too far nor too near, and because... my tape measure ran out at 25 feet. lol

Here is the target:

I'm thinking inner circle is worth fifty points, the one outside is 40, an so on with hitting outside the rings but hitting the paper being worth 10. An entire miss is worth nothing. I'm contemplating maybe five shots? Or six. Or an even ten. What do you guys think?

5.1.09 - I think an even 20 feet would be a fine distance. And with distance, target, and position settled I might as well start this thing up. Rules follow.

Da Rules:

Shots can be taken as fast or slow as you want. Double and single-action are allowed.

Shots must be made from a standing position in any stance.

A total of five shots will be made. The inner circle of the target is worth 50 points, then 40, then 30, then 20, and hitting the paper at all is worth 10. A miss is worth nothing.

You may print the target three times and shoot three sets and submit your best. It's techically possible to do it a hundred times and no one will know, but YOU'LL know, cheater.

Shots must be taken at 20 feet. You'll need a measuring tape or a range with some kind of distance measurement.

Acceptable calibers are anything from .22 Short to 500 Magnum from a pistol or revolver (with an barrel 8" and under). No pistol rounds fired from carbines are allowed.

Please send 500 gold to ArmasTermin (that's me!) with a message like "Entry Fee". Then upload your target to something like Photobucket and give me the link. Do not post it here in this forum or anywhere else on the GGE! I will hold all target pictures (or scans) until the end of the contest and post them all at once. This adds a bit of mystery.

When sending the link to your shot target, please include the make, model, and caliber of the gun used. The date couldn't hurt also, but I don't really care about that.

The reward is the sum of all collected entry fees. So five entrans means 2500 gold. If you happen to be the only entrant, you'll get your money back. I'll also make up a sig for the winner to flaunt their victory.

Here is the standard target all entrants will use. Please print it or use your computer screen as the target. You will not be reimberced for your monitor, however. http://image30.webshots.com/30/1/62/32/249916232NSNcoT_fs.jpg

Have fun! mrgreen The due date by which all entries must be submitted is June 1, 2009! One month from today.

New Rule: Scopes, red-dot optics, and laser aiming devices will be allowed. I won't point a finger saying that one cheated because I just consider it using what's available. Somebody with dad's old .22 revolver might not be on par equipment-wise as someone with a finely tuned match-grade, custom 1911. But life isn't fair, so those without fancy sights will just have to be better shooters. xd

Like I said, I don't know about distance yet. But it would be from standing position. Should have mentioned that. Keep in mind the target would be roughly the size of a piece of 8x11 printer paper, so maybe 50 yards would be a bit far?

No. Not 50 yards. I don't have reliable access to a 50 yard range, and I most likely will not even hit the paper.

I'd say <15 yards.

10-15 yards is respectable... i usually train anywhere from 5 to 10 feet from targets. cause thats about the normal range of armed encounters.

So is the target acceptable? What distance can we agree on? I think anything between 15 and 25 would be okay.

Tsk, tsk, you'll never get any better if you don't push yourself to your limitations.

I do. I originally suggested yards XD
I actually didn't do too bad with a .22 revolver on NRA pistol.

That's ancient, not a submission.

Are there any limitations on sights? I can only shoot the .22 worth a damn, and it's scoped.

Hm... well seeing as how there are no entrants yet... Well I suppose I could allow lasers, scopes, and red-dot optics. If someone doesn't have one for their gun (like me) I guess that's just too bad for them.

As for me, I will be participating, but since I'm hosting the competition I won't be officially entering. I just don't think it would be honorable.

Sweet. Now I just have to remember if I marked off the range in feet or yards... I'll just have to re-measure.

I'll be entering when I get the chance. Probably with the Single Six, the only thing I can hit worth a damn with.
