He was looking for her without looking for her, if that made any sense at all. Too hesitant to approach the den of the Regent pair when he did not know their whereabouts often kept him away. He felt, somehow, that they would look into his eyes and discover his secrets in a moment. Yet he wanted to see her. Zii'moto. No fire is what it meant. But was this true? No. He had seen fire in her eyes.
He'd never had a friend before.
Allies, siblings, but no friends. Zii was his first. His only. And though he knew he shouldn't be encouraging this feeling of friendship he could do nothing to stop it. He wanted to be her friend. Yes. Though he may deny it, he knew he was fighting a battle that could not be won. Zii was his friend and he could not turn away from it now.
He glanced up, looking for her as he went about his routine. Hoping to catch a sight of her, or her scent on the breeze. But days had passed and their paths had not met.
Perhaps that one meeting was going to be the only one they would have.
Probably for the best, really.
That morning he had been practising his hunting technique and now he carried a fat rodent in his jaws. Carried it slowly towards a mound of rocks where he intended to stop, rest and eat his kill.

Zii in fact was in fact out with Jua at one point and he showed her something fascinating... the borders of their lands. She had been curious and interested in them ever since. They would one day be her domain-walking them as as guard and keeping eye on them. It excited her. Truth was, no one knew where she was half the time-she had been sneaking off to the borders and gazing into the distance and preparing herself for her future.
She had gone early in the morning to watch the current guards do their duties before she decided to head back and be a good girl. She padded along, her tortoise shell necklace tapping her chest against her mark. She lifted her head as she neared the dens-she could see them.. along with someone familiar-
She smiled upon seeing his handsome pelt. Dropping into a crouch, she began to sneak up upon him-her golden eyes excited. She had been practicing with her sister Azar until she could do it pretty well. She got closer and closer, being careful to not let he jewelry jangle. That was why she had gotten the ornaments, to improve her sneaking ability.
And she was sneaking up on handsome

(( she looks so cute with her jewellery! <3 ))
He reached the stones, pulled himself up and set the rodent down at his forepaws, rolling its lifeless body for a moment. Boy, was he glad he had not been born something so weak and pitiful. He was thinking on this as Zii approached, unaware how close she was.
He lifted his head to look up at the sky. Cloudless. Blue. Bright. As bright as his eyes. But all skies could change, all skies could bring stormy winds and sandstorms.
His eyes were no different.
He drew in a deep breath and glanced back at his prey. His stomach growled.

((Thank you. 8D When she grows it will look neater 8D))
She was tingling with excitement. He didn't know she was there-and that made her so giddy she could barely walk quietly. She took her time, watching his back to make sure he wasn't going to notice her. Lately, she had been avoiding him really in a way-since her and her sister talked about him. He was safi-and she was the regents cub... It looked bad-or did it? Well, she didn't care-she had befriended young Jua and he was teaching her to 'misbehave'.
She wasn't good at it.
She got closer and closer-until she wasn't sure what to do. Pounce? Roar at him? She stopped very close behind him-reaching forward with a paw and pushing it down onto his tail slowly-the grin on her face so wide her face almost split in half.

He almost jumped out of his fur. At the pressure against his tail he jolted forwards, fell sideways into a roll and found his paws again a few moments later, sides heaving as he tried to suppress the shock.
He felt the tremble of rage, felt it gathering like fire in his chest. Felt ready to lash out. And then it was gone. Extinguished in a second.
This was no foe.
It was Zii'moto.
"You scared me half to death." He blinked and drew forward a couple of steps. "Are you okay? I haven't seen you for a while. I came looking for you the other day but...uh...you'd already gone out."

She could not contain her glee and spooking him. She flopped down onto her side and stretched her pale paws at him; the smile crossing her face making it obvious her enjoyment.
"Hello Rowtag!" She said sweetly, her golden eyes squeezed shut as she flexed her paws and writhed on the ground. She was finding it more and more entertaining; her ability to sneak up very well for being so white. She lifted up her adorned paw and rattled her dangling claws and teeth at him. "I thought for sure you'd hear me coming."
In reality, she wanted to hear how stealthy she was.
"I've been okay... just... thinking a lot... and to be honest-i've been to the borders a few times lately... my friend Jua showed me them... and since i am going to be a guard someday I've been studying them... why... where you looking for me?" She asked, a small hint of red showing on her white cheeks

He smiled at her greeting. With her around he almost forgot all those bad things in his life. Almost. "Apparently you move quieter than you had thought." His eyes went to the adornments hanging at her neck, ear and forepaw. They looked pretty. "Even with all those jangley things on, you moved quietly." He was actually very impressed. This girl had a lot of talent indeed.
"Really? Should you be going to the borders? Is this Jua strong enough to protect you if some bad rogue showed up?" He thought of Rap, lurking, waiting and felt his blood run cold. What if he thought it would be fun to pick on younger firekin who'd strayed too far from the den.
His eyes flashed at the thought.
"Why...? Oh, right. Well...just to hang around, really. I've been sort of busy with training and don't have that much time to spend just relaxing. Thought I'd make the most of it. Your sister told me you weren't home." He thought of the dark cub and remembered the anger in her face. They were so very different.

She lifted her head proudly, her necklace jangling against her chest. The smile crossing her maw proved her glee at being told she was improving. She lifted her forepaw and jangled it. "Thats why I got them... so I could practice my stalking and such. So far I am doing well except for when I get sand in my nose." She in turn wrinkled her black nose.
"Well. I think I am okay. I don't go out of the borders and Jua showed me all the tricks for being sneaky... he is quiet a bad boy in reality... but not bad to hang with..." She said, sort of walking in a slow circle around him, before dropping down into a crouch and wagging her rump.
"My sister!' She lifted her head with a smile. "Azar! Oh, was she nice to you... she can get mean sometimes-but she can't help it. She got all the angry from our parents while I just got the starlight!" She lifted her head more. "Oh, thats right... so me and Azar were talking and we decided that she is the night sky and I am the stars! Isn't that neat?!"

"Good idea." He agreed, genuinely interested in the concept himself. How else to improve your movements than trying to keep noisy trinkets still even when walking? It was a very good idea indeed. He smiled, nodding.
His ears drew upright then. "Jua?" He didn't like the sound of this at all. Was someone trying to steal his friend from him? A possessiveness arose in him but, realising how silly it was, he pushed it down and pretended it wasn't there. "I don't know him. Maybe you shouldn't go to close to the borders. Bad lions might be there, you know."
Talking about bad lions....her sister was one of them.
"No. I don't think your sister likes me very much at all." And that was an understatement. The meeting hadn't gone down too well. "I'll keep out of her way from now on. Probably for the best."
And then his smile returned a little. "Starlight. You do shine like the stars do. Stars are nice." He looked down at the rodent lying there and, with a paw, rolled it towards her. "Um, I got this for you."

She shifted her weight around for a moment when he mentioned that bad lions may be on the borders. Who did she have to fear, there was no rival pride anymore that hated her people. "I stay out of sight most of the time. And I have only been there a few times-once alone and once with Jua... who is very nice and you don't have to worry about him." She said softly. Though she wasn't sure why she felt the need to say it.
She looked down at her paws and sort of dug a little hole with them at the mention of her sister. "Yeah... I sort of figured something like that would happen. My sister is-well... a bit more firey than me." She sighed. "I think most of it was that we are so close and-well... she sort of doesn't want to trust the Safi lions yet... which is silly." She said with a small smile.
She blushed a little at his words. She lifted her golden eyes at the mention of a gift. She looked down at the rodent and was impressed. She for one had not caught anything other than bugs. She may be sneaky and quiet but she wasn't yet ready to kill something. "Rowtag... you caught it by yourself?" She asked, obviously impressed and smitten.

He flicked an ear, making a mental note of this Jua. If Zii ended up getting hurt or in trouble he'd have hell to pay. Rowtag would make sure of that. With a small huff he straightened and nodded. "Don't worry. It's not your fault."
He nodded again. "Yep. For you." He smiled. "And someday I'll be able to catch bigger and better prey." Not that he'd need to do much hunting, being a soldier. Even still, he had enjoyed it and he didn't want it to be the last time he caught something.
He stood then and shook the sand from his mane. "You're very different from your family, Zii'moto. And, I don't mean in looks. Like, well, you don't judge people. You accept them for who they are. That's a good thing." He smiled, but inside he felt that horrible guilt crawling up again. He pushed it down and continued. "Do you want me to show you where I caught it? The rodent, I mean."

Zii felt her heart flutter a little. She was glad he didn't think worse of her for her sisters actions. Perhaps something inside Zii, wanted to show everyone that Safi were good and that they were apart of everyone in the Pride. That they could be united again without fear and without worry. Someday, it would be proved wrong. She blushed, looking down at the mouse and reaching over with a paw to nudge it with a smile. For her. A present for her.
"Yes.. someday you can catch big things... both of us can.. I can't wait for my first big kill... I heard it's like-the best thing to happen to a lioness or lion." She said excitedly. Soon, within a few months it would be time for her to prove her strength and power with prey. "Oh yes.. I would love to see"! she said with a smitten look. He probably could have given her a rotten camel leg and she'd be happy.
She stood up and anticipated which direction he would go in her excitement.

He nodded. Lionesses were skilled in hunting. He'd watched them move with such precision, such agility. Once his mane grew in he'd be heavier, slower, but he'd still hunt. He enjoyed the feel of power it brought him.
At her declaration he stood and moved in the direction he'd found the nest of rodents. The hairy, stupid things were always scampering around. Luckily even the softest of breezes covered their tracks. But that was all that was lucky about them. Their scent was strong and it hung heavy in the air as he drew closer.
"Just up ahead." He pointed towards a gnarled old tree, the base of its dried, rotten trunk protected by boulders. He lost his footing briefly and brushed against her. A tingle of warmth ran down the length of his spine and his cheeks grew warm.
Eep. This crush certainly was developing!
Clearing his throat he quickened his pace and leapt up onto one of the boulders, peering down between them. "That's the entrance down there." He replied, finding his words somewhat difficult to come by through the embarrassment.

Zii gazed at him and had to really ask herself why no one would want to be friends with anyone from the Safi. Rowtag was proof of why! He was absoultly darling and as his crush was starting to form, her's was also starting to become a light in her heart. She smiled at him, content to follow him with a skip in her step and she hummed a little tune.
She chuckled when he brushed against her, her eyes squinting as her cheeks also blushed. She side stepped a little, looking down and shuffling her paws slightly. She simply looked up at him and a little grin crawled across her face.
She scampered behind him, coming up to gaze at the entrance too. "Oooh. You're right. They smell!" She said with a wrinkled nose.

Casting her a shy sort of grin he nodded and, with a light growl, started to dig at the sand around the rodent den. One furry body bounced out and darted into another entrance of the den. This time Rowtag was not quick enough to catch it.
Turning he threw her another sort of awkward smile. "It takes practise." He explained. "And maybe a little hint of luck."
"You'll be better because you're much quieter than me."
