"Which do you think is better (in general)? During the past presidential election int the United States, many extreme Republicans accused Democrats of practicing Socialism. The extreme Democrats who agreed said that Socialism is the next step foreward for America.

Discuss:
Capitalism
Socialism
Which is better in general?
Which is better for your country?
Is there any other Government-Bureaucrat system that should be used?

Socialism is BETTER, but it just flat-out doesn't work. It requires HUMAN GOODNESS and DECENCY. See the problem here? People are selfish shits. Pure socialism just doesn't work in a society where everybody doesn't know everyone else. In a small town, it works great, but a nation? ******** that, man.

Capitalism. If I'm willing to spend 209129387 years in college, I wanna make some biggo moolah!
There should be restrictions about how much money you can make, but if you want to live a comfortable lifestyle and not have people all up in your biz all the time, go for it. But you gotta spend all that time working your butt off in college.

Capitalism. A socialist society is one of the very last I'd ever want to live in. I disagree with collectivism and the notion that all must be equal to be stable or good. I don't believe anything good can come from applied socialism. As said, it's an okay concept, but it's not a realistic one.

I'm going with Capitalism. Socialism is a good idea, but like Fresnel said, it requires decency, no corruption, and leaders who really care about the people. And that's a rarity this day and age. Same with Communism. Good idea, but will never work fairly.

A little of both. A little more capitalism than socialism, but over all, socialism would be my choice if it wasn't for people just thinking for themselves. Sadly, capitalism feeds to this little greed in us all.

You are mixing up socialism with communism. Well at least it appears to be so.
Silver Screen and GREEN more obviously mixed it up though. ._.;

You know, I've had people tell me this before, but not a one of them has ever taken the time to explain the difference. They just give me the hoity-toity artfag "Oh, you don't KNOW? Haw haw haw, how IGNORANT of you!".

You can have socialism and capitalism, they aren't mutually exclusive.

Actually what I said in my own comment was generic enough to cover both, as everything I said is found in communism and socialism.

Well first off actual communism has never existed and is rather epic if pulled off. There would be no government in it, a classless society where people would get what they need, and work where they fit best and want to work, eventually eliminating the thought some people have that work=bad leading to everyone being pretty damn productive. There would also be complete redistribution of the wealth. But since people are jerks it would be almost impossible to get to. Some tyrants claim to be using communism but usually are only stealing its taxation structure.

Socialism is basically the mid-ground between capitalism and communism, where the government does SOME regulation of business and owns some businesses itself. It has slight redistribution of the wealth to help those who need it but at a rate that people are still driven by capitalistic greed as well.

The USA may say it is just capitalism but it uses a ton of socialistic beliefs. Minimal to no control by the government is required for capitalism. The world learned that leaning too close to capitalism causes things like the Great Depression. The countries working towards communism (which are some form of currently bastardized communism and tyrannical socialism) learned they don't want to let go of power. This is why most countries lean more towards the socialistic mid ground because it has the strengths of both but doesn't mix up ideologies of the extremes with what actually happens but since no one has fully pulled off either, we don't know if the ideals are possible.

I checked the OP's links and no wonder people are getting confused if they are basing it off that. The "socialism" one is confusing socialism with communism and even shows it's bias and misinterpretations in wording.

Exactly. Socialism and Communism are similar enough that both of our posts fit the definition well enough.

Capitalism.

Socialism isn't even all that good of an idea. On paper, as well as in practice, it systematically discriminates against people based on their 'class', which is an arbitrary line marking economic success. I see it as being in the same field, if not quite as bad, as racism and sexism. In short, 'class jealousy'. To me, if you eliminate discrimination in social law (which is a great banner that the left tries to fly) you must match it with economic law (which they certainly do not fly). Taxing the rich by a greater amount than the poor is one thing, but taxing the rich until they join the poor is another entirely.

I would rather see class mobility, where success is earned and rewarded. Capitalism is the only system which brings it.

She burns like the sun, and I can't look away

Both are stupid. America is stupid. Your elections are stupid. Your legal system is stupid. You've got a black president, but I wish you luck for all the ******** good that's going to do you.

ALL HAIL AMERICA, BECAUSE THEY'RE CLEARLY THE ONLY COUNTRY OF CONSEQUENCE IN THE WORLD.
She'll burn our horizons, make no mistake.
