Whatever happened to the values of humanity,
Whatever happened to the fairness in equality...

So, I'm wondering, why exactly isn't whistling allowed in Islam? Unless...I'm wrong, and it's allowed? =D Please be generous enough to spread your knowledge to a fellow Muslim sister. ;D

The thing is I dont think is exactly against islam it is just prefered not to do so b/c it isn't a well mannered act... When you whistle at a girl you are disrespecting her... and when you whistle at a concert it is also not a mannered act... and was Muslims he are suppose to give out a well mannered image... But it is not like you get a sin for whistling ...

@0_o__V: Actually, that's why i'm posting, I don't know whether it's a sin or not? ^^' I've been taught that when you whistle, it's a call to Shaitan or something? ^^' I dunno, I want firm proof though. razz

Assalamualaikum. I am Hafizul Syarafi from Malaysia. I just wanna share my opinion here and if there was anything wrong, feel free to fix it.

Hmmm... from what I know, whistling and clapping is haram according to the law of Islam. confused
I just referred to the website from my country and asked some of my friends. Like oOo-Az-oOo said just now, "I've been taught that when you whistle, it's a call to Shaitan or something?".

Alright. Based on the website I've referred before, it says that whoever trying to follow the others (another tribe/those infidel) will be like them. (Hmm... sorry. My grammar is worse. I just translate it into plain English. crying )

مَنْ تَشَبَّهَ بِقَوْمٍ فَهُوَ مِنْهُم (I just copy this though.)

Haven't that Allah has said that:

[8.35] "Their shalat near the Baitullah is nothing but a whistling and clapping. So, feel the pain due to your infidelity (to the infidel)".

This is the pray that the Quraisy people do each and every day in front of their worshipped 'statue God'. stare

So, in order to prevent from following the 'bad habit' based on the facts above, I think we should practice to avoid it. May Allah bless us all. Assalamualaikum. neutral

What? I hope you're not decrying whistling based on that passage...

Then again, it would explain a lot, why extremists do what they do- You're simply following a logical fallacy- The problem in the passage isn't the WHISTLING, it's a combination of several things- It's the worship of a statue, and the meaninglessness of their prayer- Decrying whistling because someone the Qu'ran calls "bad" did it, then you shouldn't breathe or walk, as bad people have done that while committing blaspheme too.

Whatever happened to the values of humanity,

I asked one of my RL friends, and this is what they came up with:

Surah Al Anfal - 35
Their Salât (prayer) at the House (of Allâh, i.e. the Ka'bah at Makkah) was nothing but whistling and clapping of hands. Therefore taste the punishment because you used to disbelieve.

Clapping and Whistling is thus a resemblence with kuffar. Thus most of the ulema have prohibited it. Instead when ever a Muslim likes or dislikes something he should say Subhan'Allah or Allah O Akbar, which is best.

Secondly, clapping is masrooh for women, like in praying, if the imam does some mistake, women will remind him by clapping and men by saying subhan'Allah.

So its better for Muslims not clap as we do in parties or functions.

This topic is taken from the book FATAWA by Sheikh Abdul Aziz Bin Abdulla Bin Baaz, Mufti of Saudi Arabia.

@DivineS: That's an interesting perception, yet (sorry for my strange examples) some devil worshipping groups dance around naked drinking animal blood, now let me ask you, if you sighted a person doing that, and had heard of the above information, what conculsion would you come up with? En plus, the Qu'ran didn't necassarily call it bad, yet it does show a fractional dislike on the matter, however, when decisions can't be brought to a conclusion, we consult our Imaams (Islamic 'teachers'...kind of) and follow their advice.

For this reason, there is a lot of confusion on the matter. Which is why I made this thread, to try and figure it out. ^^

Also, breathing and walking is a part of life, compulsory for our existence, however, clapping isn't. Therefore, this comparison you have drawn up is invalid.

Drinking animal blood is a little different from whistling a tune. But technically, since Allah apparently does not like us to represent things that are of divine nature, shouldn't we NOT pray with words and use the wordless whistling and clapping that expresses our feelings without binding them to human linguistics?

And walking or breathing don't HAVE to be observed- Ask a Hindu ascetic.

Why is it haram, and is it haram?

Assalamualikum brothers and sisters,

Their prayer at the House (of Allah) is nothing but whistling and clapping of hands: (Its only answer can be), "Taste ye the penalty because ye blasphemed." [Qur'an, 8:35;Yusuf Ali's
Translation]

This is because it was known for the Quraysh tribe perform tawaf to encircle the Qabah naked, clapping and whistling which was a form of blasphemy.

As for it being haram, here no one knows, you cannot give an opinion unless you have the right to meaning being a scholar, it is better to ask a scholar, I will ask and if I find an answer then I will be gladly to tell you.
