General Series Info

Q: What is Tsubasa Reservoir Chronicle?
A: If you ever ask me this in the guild, I'm really going to wonder how you were accepted in the first place, but it could happen.
(made smaller due to its size)
Tsubasa Reservoir Chronicle is a currently on-going hit manga by CLAMP, who have created other manga such as Cardcaptor Sakura and Tokyo Babylon. Tsubasa stars:
- former Cardcapturing buddies Syaoran and Sakura as teens in an alternate dimension where Syaoran is an orphaned archaeologist and Sakura is the princess of the country where they live.
- Fai D. Flowright, the former wizard of his land, who has given up his magical powers (so he says)
- Kurogane, A ninja from feudal Japan with a violent temper and a passion for bloodshed, sent on a journey by the princess he fought to protect
- Mokona, a strange "manjuu bun"-shaped white creature who originally appeared in Magic Knight Rayearth; serves as the guide for Syaoran, Sakura, Kurogane and Fai.
The group's meeting with the Space-Time Witch(aka The Witch of Dimensions), Yuuko is 'hitsuzen'(inevitable), as they all have a request that requires the same thing. Syaoran's wish is to retrieve the scattered memories of Princess Sakura, which are manifested as feathers, that were torn from her and strewn across dimensions. Kurogane's wish is to return to his home world. Fai's wish is to not return to his home world, where apparently, someone he is fleeing exists. Mokona is the magical being that each person needs, as *it* can take them to different worlds. However... to be able to have mokona, each person much give up what they value the most - Kurogane, his sword; Fai, a magical marking on his back; and Syaoran, his relationship with Sakura, meaning that even when all the feathers are found, she will not remember her experiences or feelings for Syaoran.
The four people, and one creature are now on a quest to achieve their goals, without dying in the process. They form friendships, remember stuff, fight, and ANGST!! =3

That is Tsubasa. That is our fandom.

Q: What does TRC stand for?
A: In case acronyms aren't your area of expertise, TRC stands for 'Tsubasa Reservoir Chronicle'. Many frequently refer to the anime, 'Tsubasa Chronicle', as TRC as well, but due to the anime series being vastly different from the manga, some would say that's inaccurate.

Anime

Q: Tsubasa Chronicle? Isn't this the Tsubasa Reservoir Chronicle Guild?
A: The japanese title of the anime was changed from "Tsubasa Resrvoir Chronicle", to "Tsubasa Chronicle". This was a decision made by the animation company Bee Train, and no one has really found an explanation yet. sweatdrop
The english version of the anime changed the title back to "Tsubasa Reservoir Chronicle", most likely to avoid confusion between the manga and anime.

Q: How many episodes have been aired?
A: As of 11/04/06, 52 episodes have aired. The series is finished. English DVDs of the first season (Ep 1-26) were released in 2007 and 2008. The second season (27-52) was released in 2008.

Q: Who are Japanese voice actors (seiyuu) for the series?
A: These are the seiyuu for the 5 main characters:
Syaoran: Miyu Irino // Sakura: Yui Makino // Fai: Daisuke Namikawa // Kurogane: Tetsu Inada // Mokona: Mika Kikuchi

Q: Who are the english voice actors for the series?
A: The 5 main characters are voiced by:
Syaoran: Jason Leibrecht // Sakura: Monica Rial // Fai: Vic Mignogna // Kurogane: Chris Sabat // Mokona: Carrie Savage

Q: Why aren't more episodes being released? Is Season 2 over?/When does season 3 start?
A: Season 2 has ended. Season 3 was meant to air in April 2007, but was cancelled, for reasons mentioned in the next segment.

Q: What happened to the third season?
A: Season 3 was cancelled. This was announced on NHK's Tsubasa Chronicle FAQ, and translated by Yu-gi-oh! Subs, the primary fansubbers for the second season.

Speculations on reasons for the cancellation among fans are as follows:
CLAMP was dissatisfied with Bee Train's adaptation of the anime. They said so in an interview, in late 2006. Reasons for this seem to be the countless fillers of the second season (Apprx 15/26 episodes were filler). Fillers, being episodes that do not follow the storyline of the manga. Some of these episodes even contained scenes that potentially altered the character's sexual orientations to make the show more "child friendly", such as episode 32 (S2 06) - "Date with a Magician", in which Fai goes on a date with a version of Chii on a world they visited. The animation in said fillers were often sub-par as well.
Additionally, due to the network Tsubasa was aired on being a "Family-Friendly" network (similar to ABC Family, in the US), later violent scenes in the manga could not have been properly adapted in the Bee Train adaptation, if a third season were to be created.
The general concensus fans have come to, in the simplist form, is that CLAMP cancelled the third season because they were tired of Bee Train messing with their gay displeased with Bee Train's adaptation of the series.

Q: What are the OP + ED themes?
A: Season 1's OP was "BLAZE" by Kinya, and the single relased with this was "Refraction". The ED was "Loop" by Maaya Sakamoto (who happened to voice Tomoyo!), and the single that came with it was "High Touch". Full-length versions of these songs are available for purchase in Japan, and on sites like amazon.com and cdjapan.
Season 2's OP is "IT'S", again by Kinya. The full version of this has been released, and its complimentary single was "Skid Mark". The ED will be sung by Maaya Sakamoto, and it's called "Kazemachi Jet", and its complimentary single was "Spica".

Q: English DVDs, eh?
A: All of the first season dvds have been released. They are:
Volume 1 "A Gathering of Fates" (eps 1-5)
Volume 2 "Seeds of Revolution" (6-10)
Volume 3 "Spectres of Legend" (11-14)
Volume 4 "Between Death and Danger" (15-18 )
Volume 5 "Hunters and Prey" (19-22)
Volume 6 "A Wish Upon Waking" (23-26)
Volume 7 "The Dangerous Pursuit" (27-31)
Volume 8 "A Tragic Illusion" (32-36)
Volume 9 "Renegades and Strays" (37-40)
Volume 10 "Answers Without Questions" (41-44)
Volume 11 "At the Brink of Chaos" (45-48 )
Volume 12 "At the Brink of Chaos" (49-52)

Q: Official Site?
A: The official FUNimation site is now up, and with actual content. =O
TSUBASA - RESERVoir CHRoNiCLE -- One Mission, Multiple Worlds

Q: What chapter of the manga corresponds to episodes 48-52 ("Chaos arc")?
A: There is none. This arc was a fabrication (filler) created by Bee Train, with no contribution from CLAMP. So it's basically a three hour waste of time that never really happened. heart

Q: When will the anime fanbooks/best selection books be released in English?
A: There has been no news of a release for these yet, probably due to the fact that they accompany the anime, and not the manga. These may or may not be translated as the anime gains popularity here.

Manga

Q: How many Chaptires have been released?
A: Tsubasa has been seen to completion in Japan's Shonen Magazine. 3 volumes have yet to be released in english.

Q: What are spoilers?
A: "Spoilers" refers to any information that would "spoil" an event in the story, or reveal a surprise plot twist or piece of information. This is similar to when someone who has finished a book tells you how it ends, while you are still midway. Spoilers typically occur in text form, but images and video can also be spoilers. When posting a spoiler, it's polite to post a warning before the spoiler, to alert those who might not want secrets of the story revealed.

Q: I can't stand the wait! Where can I find spoilers for the next release?
A: Spoilers posted on 2Chan (the japanese original and equivalent to 4chan) and are translated and posted by Ashura-sama to her livejournal. While her translations may sometimes come later than another spoiler-poster, Su-chan Ashura-sama's translations are far more coherent than Su-chan's. The spoilers for a chaptire are usually found and translated the saturday or sunday before their release.

Q: When are chaptires released?
A: Every wednesday, a new issue of Shounen Magazine hits the newstands in Japan. Almost every week, TRC is featured in the magazine. Occasionally, it'll skip a week, sometimes, at worst, 2.
On a typical wednesday, expect the chaptire to hit the internet in the evening, when Ladydarkmoon posts her raw manga scans.

Q: Where can I get scans/scanlations/translations?
A: Removed.
In the past, there was want of an extensive list of resources, but with the internet as advanced as it is now, it's not really necessary. And it never was legal anyway. ;; If you're desperate, a little bit of google-fu will do you quite well.

***Please remember that, while scanlations are convenient, it's important to support both CLAMP and the companies that provide us with TRC, and purchase the manga whenever possible.***

Q: Will character guides be released in English?
A: The first Tsubasa Reservoir Chronicle Charactere Guide was released translated by Del Rey in early December 2006, spanning the first 8 volumes of the series.
The second charactere guide has no mention of being translated yet. Japanese scans of it are available here.

OAD (Original Animation DVD)
Because "OVA" is so old-school.

See the Official Japanese Site Here
+ With color character designs for main cast, antagonists + X crossovers
The OAD is complete!

Q: Suu~~! Your FAQ sucks. It sucking-sucks. D= I disapprove; where can I get better information?
A: This thread is the best OVA/Season 3 explanation you could ask for.
Yeah, I can ask questions too. Mmmhmm. Yup.

Q: Tokyo Revelations?
A: CLAMP has made a contract with Production IG, the company responsible for the movie (Princess of the Birdcage Country) to create a three part animation of a later part of TRC that could not be animated on television do to heavy violence. This three part OAD is entitled "Tsubasa TOKYO REVELATIONS".

Q: What part of the manga will this contain? Do you have a synopsis?
A: Though we haven't been told of an exact summary of each OVA, the title makes it fairly obvious to followers of the japanese release what portion of the story this will cover.
The OVA will cover a major 'turning point' of sorts in the storyline, an arc typically dubbed by fans as the "Tokyo Arc", "Acid Tokyo", or "X Arc", which began at the end of volume 14. In this arc, after escaping from the library in Lecourt (Rekoruto, Recort, etc), Mokona transports them to a world devastated by war and environmental catastrophe that the inhabitants call "Tokyo". In this world the environment contains only acid rain, desert, ruins, and harsh monsters, and only two groups of people seem to survive, while in constant feuds over fresh water supplies. The gang takes shelter with one of these groups, to seek out the feather in that world, but things suddenly begin to go very, very awry...-- And if you want to know exactly what happens ahead of time, pop into the spoiler thread in the guild, or read the scanlated chaptires online (see Manga post, above).

Q: Tell me more about these three parts.
A: Each part is 25 minutes. The first part will come with box to contain the three DVDs in.
Volume 1: "The Magician's Message" (3,360 yen)
Volume 2: "The Boy's Right Eye" (2,980 yen)
Volume 3: "The Dream Seen by the Princess" (2,980 yen)

Q: When/How can I get this OAD, if it's "too violent for TV"?
A: The OAD will be released in three parts, each with a volume of the manga. Part 1 was released with volume 21 on November 16. Pt 2 was released with volume 22 on January 17, and Pt 3 with volume 23 on March 17. Buyers of the japanese manga will have the choice between purchasing just the book for the standard price, or the DVD and the novel for a fair amount more.
And don't worry, pirates/those without region-free DVD players. Someone will likely rip the DVDs onto the internet as they come out, where someone else will sub them.

Q: Where can I see this magical OAD?
A: Shinsen Subs, one of the subbers for the movie (Princess of the Country of Birdcages) has part one subtitled and up for download via Bittorrent on their website.
If torrents aren't for you, there's a collection of DDL links here.
The raw of Part 2 is available for DDL, here. So far no subs of the second OAD have been released.

Q: But I thought there was no season 3!?
A: The OVA is not a third season of "Tsubasa Chronicle", and is not produced by Bee Train, the company responsible for the TV series at all. It does not follow any plot set up by Bee Train in the animated series.

Movie

Q: Movie?
A: In August 2005, Prodution IG (not Bee Train!) released a combination Tsubasa Chronicle/xxxHolic movie. The first hour, the xxxHolic moive, was called "Manatsu no Yoru no Yume" (A Midsummer Night's Dream) and had a theme song and ending theme all to itself. The Tsubasa Chronicles movie, "Torikago no Kuni no Himegimi" (Princess of the country of brid cages), was half an hour long, and shown directly after the xxxHolic movie, with its own seperate theme song and ending song.

Q: When was it released in Japan?
A: The Tsubasa Chronicle movie was released on DVD seperately from the Holic movie, in February 2006.

Q: Is it out in english?
A: Yes! The dvd was released along with the Holic movie in February 2008.

Q; What music is used in the movie? Can I get the OST?
A: All of the background music used in the film are from the anime series. Some of the songs used, "Ship of Fools", "Believe", and "A tiny Sunshine" are all, for example, on the first anime soundtrack.
The opening theme, "Aerial", is vocalized by Kinya, who sang "Blaze", and who will be singing TRC season 2's opening - "IT'S". Aerial was released on a single CD with another song by Kinya, "Season".
The ending theme, "Amurita", or "Amrita" is vocallized by Yui Makino. Yui Makino plays the voice of Sakura in the anime, and sung other Tsubasa songs such as "Towa no Omoi", and "Yume no Tsubasa". The other song on the album is "Jasmin".

Music, Dramas, and The Kitchen Sink

Q: What does OST stand for?
A: OST = Original Sound Track

Q: How many Tsubasa OSTs are there?
A: Someone pmmed me with this one. ;o
There's currently 4 soundtracks for the anime. Each features about 20 tracks, of the background music played throughout the series, and the Tv-sized openings and endings.
Each album had a limited edition, and a regular release. The limited edition includes...well, a limited edition object. The first soundtrack contained a feather pen, and the third had a pencil case, for examples.
They're 'officially' called, Tsubasa Chronicle Future Soundscape I, II, and III, IV. The fourth OST came out on September 21. No news of a separate soundtrack for the upcoming OVA (see 4th post) has been released.

Q: What are the Drama CD's everyone keeps talking about?
A: The Tsubasa Chronicle Charactire Drama Albums have been released starting in December, with volume 1. Volume 1 had a 3 part "voice-drama", much like an episode of the series, and contained 2 character songs. Volume 2 was a continuation of the voice-drama in cd 1, and contained 2 more character songs at the begining and end. This CD was released in February.
Volume 3 will be the conclusion of the voice-drama, and contain 2 more songs sung by the main cast of Tsubasa. This was released on the 24th of March.

Q: What are the Character songs?
A: There are 6 planned character songs for Tsubasa Chronicle. 5 individual songs, and one duet, 2 songs released on each CD. They were broken down as follows:
Drama CD 1 (December 2005)
Zankou/Sword: Tetsu Inada (Kurogane)
Towa no Omoi/Eternal Emotions: Yui Makino (Sakura)
Drama CD 2 (February 2006)
Kizuna/Bonds: Miyu Irino (Syaoran)
Smile: Daisuke Namikawa (Fai)
Drama CD 3 (March 2006)
Tabi no Tochuu de Kibou no Uta wo Utaou/Sing a song of hope along the journey: Mika Kikuchi (Mokona)
Yume no Tsubasa/Wings of Dreams (duet version): Yui Makino and Miyu Irino (Sakura and Syaoran)

Q: There's another Drama CD? With xxxHolic?
A: Yesh. A crossover Drama CD came out in May, featuring the voice works of the casts of the TRC and Holic animes. The Drama is called, when translated, "Private Acadamy Horitsuba", and is in an alternate universe to both Holic and Tsubasa, similar to CLAMP School's, where everyone is a teacher or a student. ('Horitsuba' is a combination of the japanese pronunciation of Holic and Tsubasa - "Horikku" and "Tsubasa". Hori-tsuba~! ) Syaoran is a foreign exchange student, and Sakura, Doumeki, Himawari, Watanuki, Mokona, and Mokona are his classmates. Yuuko, Fai, and Kurogane are all teachers. Throughout the drama, Syaoran struggles to find out just what the big deal is about Valentines day, and winds up getting horribly, horribly confused. I blame Yuuko and Fai. >=|

Q: Horitsuba Drama 2? 3?
A: A second and third Horitsuba Gakuen drama was released.
The second was advertised as having a 'special guest'. In this drama, the cast prepares for the Summer festival. Things get a bit crazy, when Sakura spots a "doppleganger" of one of her dear friends, and the entire cast sets out in a panic to stop him from meeting his original. Naturally, they've misunderstood the situation entirely, and acquire a new acquaintance. Misunderstandings. Men in maids costumes. General Crack. Just as good as the first.
The third consisted primarily of a contest held by Yuuko between Kurogane and Fai, to find "Fai's precious thing". The students provided helpful hints, and a new character arrives on the scene. Syaorans playing basketball. Kurogane and Fai being awesome. Himawari and Sakura accompany on piano. Fun for the whole family.

Q: Does TRC have an Artbook, like X and CCS do?
A: Yes, it does. 3nodding Kodansha released an artbook for Tsubasa on 04/18/07 in Japan. It's titled "Tsubasa Art Collection -ALBuM De REProDUCTioNS-" (haha, CLAMP loves weird spelings for this series). As the name "reproductions" might suggest, all of the images contained within the book are ones we've seen before, except for the cover images of the main cast, and a folder-insert of the main cast wearing glasses. A black and white omake was included at the end of the book, as well as notes by CLAMP about each drawing. This collection covers art from the first 16 volumes of the series. English release still far from being known.

If you're gonna put up scanlations, might as well put up places to get the anime too. The torrents will be slow right now and NA might've taken it down, but just wait till the next season. And the DVD for the ovie is PROBABLY coming out in MArch, before anyonne asks. And plushies come out in March, and are hideous to cute.
