Salam, everyone.
I'm not sure whether to put here or Chatterbox, or other forum (since you're free to discuss them, and ChatterBox isn't really a place for discussion. maybe general discussion or stay here?), but since people usually come to the front forum first, then I'll post here. May be moved later.
Self Defense is one of important thing in Islam. Allah like a strong Muslim than a weak Muslim, considering they're both as good as each other in prayer and other things. And it's needed even more in times like this, when Islam have many enemies.
One of the way of Self Defense is Martial Arts, many of them have turned into for sport only, but they're still a way of self defense. So have you ever train a martial arts? Share your experience and why did you choose it. What do you think of other Martial Arts and Martial Arts itself in general.

where is jyo jitsu?
Well razz
my favourite one is when u thake a sword, and cut off the head of the other one. but th ebest one is when u thake a gun and shoot the enemy.
that is just a sport :3nod
As sport, boxing is best, and also the hardest.
everyone can get a black belt at karate judo or whatever.... but boxing really requires skills.
ans as a crew, u should know that this should be at chatter-box.

I know, but I want to give a chance for those who never opened chatterbox (if there's any) I'll move it today. Ah, I forget about jujitsu, but I thing it should be together with judo. I know it's a bit different (judo-jujitsu, kendo-kenjutsu, etc.) while those with "do" is more like sport and sportsmanship and the "jutsu" really more like self defense. Wow, broken arm.. eek not really a souvenir I want, but.. sweatdrop I've learn a bit about Pencak Silat when I'm in Junior High and High School, but I have to stop since my college is in another city. I guess it's not as famous as karate and other japanese sport, but it won't lost. Believe me..^^ For a little more information to those who don't know anything about this, this is the movement of silat. Pencak Silat (East Java)

Fencing is a family of sports and activities that feature armed combat involving cutting, stabbing, or bludgeoning weapons that are directly manipulated by hand, rather than shot, thrown or positioned. Examples include swords, knives, pikes, bayonets, batons, clubs, and similar weapons. In contemporary common usage, fencing tends to refer specifically to European schools of swordsmanship and to the modern Olympic sport that has evolved out of them.
Fencing is one of the four sports which has been featured at every modern Olympic Games. Currently, three types of weapon are used in Olympic fencing:
* Foil — a light thrusting weapon; the valid target is restricted to the torso, the chest, shoulders, and back; double touches are not allowed (see priority rules below). This weapon follows the rule of "right of way" * Épée — a heavy thrusting weapon; the valid target area covers the entire body; double touches are allowed. There is no "right of way" * Sabre — a light cutting and thrusting weapon; the valid target area is the saddle line, which is from one side of your hip to the other and up, this also includes the head. The target area does not include the hands. This weapon follows "right of way"
The word fence was originally a shortening of the Middle English defense, which came from an Italian word, defensio, in origin a Latin word. The first known use of defens in reference to English swordsmanship is in William Shakespeare's Merry Wives of Windsor: "Alas sir, I cannot fence."
That is fencing...I'm trying to find a place that will give me lessons...

fencing seems interesting.. 3nodding just like the 3 musketeers (is it?) (it seems like Fencing is sword's art in West, while Kendo is sword's art in East)
i did learn taek won do - but i stopped until 1st dan. Indeed in sparring itself, the least souveniors u'll get are bruises & bumps.. rolleyes
for me, arts of self defenses are interesting 4laugh - but it won't be interesting if it is use in killing people.. neutral

I tried Kendo for a while, but I guess I'm not really continuing it anymore. The shinai (bamboo blade) is quiet expensive, not to mention the armor set.. >.< Beside, I can't really use it immediately for self defense. And I think bare handed suits me better. Well, at least I still get what I can get though, the technique and the experience of fighting a weapon user.. neko86 for me, arts of self defenses are interesting icon_4laugh.gif - but it won't be interesting if it is use in killing people.. Who knows? maybe killing unexpectedly interesting.. twisted
