salam alykum read this : biggrin
Islam (Arabic: الإسلام al-’islām, pronounced [ʔislæːm] ( listen)[note 1]) is a monotheistic, Abrahamic religion based on the teachings of the Qur’an, a religious book considered by its adherents to be the verbatim word of God (Arabic: الله, Allāh), and the Islamic prophet Muhammad's personally demonstrated examples (collected through narration of his companions in the volumes of Hadith) for implementing them. The word Islam is a homograph, having multiple meanings, and a triliteral of the word salam, which directly translates as peace. Other meanings include submission, or the total surrender of oneself to God (see Islam (term)).An adherent of Islam is a Muslim, meaning "one who submits (to God)". The word Muslim is the participle of the same verb of which Islām is the infinitive. Muslims regard Islam as the completed and universal version of an original monotheistic faith revealed to peoples before, including to Adam, Abraham, Moses, Jesus, and other prophets. Islamic tradition holds that previous messages have changed and the revelations were distorted.
Religious practices include the Five Pillars of Islam, which are five duties that unite Muslims into a community. Islamic law (Arabic: شريعة Šarīʿah) touches on virtually every aspect of life and society, encompassing everything from dietary laws and banking to warfare and welfare.Almost all Muslims belong to one of two major denominations, the Sunni (85%) and Shi'a (15%). Islam is the predominant religion in much of Africa, the Middle East, as well as in major parts of Asia. Large communities are also found in China, Russia and the Balkans. Converts and immigrant communities are found in almost every part of the world. About 20% of Muslims live in Arab countries,30% in the Indian Subcontinent, and 15.6% in Indonesia alone, the largest Muslim country in absolute numbers. With 1.3 billion to 1.8 billion Muslims, Islam is the second-largest religion in the world and the fastest growing religion in the world.[

In brief, Islam itself isn't just a religion, but it is a way of life. It guides us in how to live in this beautiful god (Allah SWT) given world. It is known guided by prophet Muhammad S.A.W the prophet after Isa/Jesus and Allah has stated that Muhammad S.A.W is the last prophet.
Islam was created after different kitabs before. The different kitabs were sent as 'wahyu' to prophets as a guide to live in this world. Different era with different prophets thus with different kitab used to guide humans way of life.
It was after these kitabs where Al-Quran was created and sent by Allah SWT to prophet Muhammad S.A.W, the final prophet as the final kitab as a guidance in living in this world. As I said before, the kitab are used as guidance in life and the prophets are the chosen caliph that will teach all humans in the era about the contains in it.
This includes kitab Taurat where prophet Moses (Musa) holds, Zabur where prophet Daud holds , Injil (Bible) where prophet Isa (Jesus) holds and Al-Quran (The Koran) where the final prohet, prophet Muhammad S.A.W holds.
Though not only kitabs are used as guidance, sunnah are also a part of the guidance used by muslims. That is all for now. But the prospects and scope of defining Islam in general is too large and difficult to explain within a second, thus questions presented are most likely accepted as an easier way to answer your questions about Islam. Wallahualam~

Hello, If you want reliable sources regarding Islam then I highly suggest you not to get it from gaia. You may talk with Muslims and see their opinion, however regarding Islam and the teachings, it's wise not to learn it through here. For several reasons: 1) Most of us are teens, and are still learning ourselves 2) Not all of us know the correct things regarding Islam, one person may be taught something that is untrue and is unaware of it. 3)We are more likely to mix our opinion with the religion (not on purpose)
What I suggest you doing is go t your local mosque. Trust me they will help you finding and giving you the right information. We may give you a list of websites, but the best and most reliable source is the mosque themselves. They have resources for people who want to learn about islam. And anyone is welcomed to come in.
