Yaretzi stretched herself out on a raised branch yawning to herself in the afternoon heat. She smiled to herself as she felt her back crack in a few different places. It was nice and quiet, but at the same time, rather boring, she closed her eyes and let her limb hang limply from the branch. She wasn't used to alone time that was peaceful... it was awkward to say the least.

Xiang didn't like the cool green darkness of the jungle depths, but at least he rarely saw anyone else here. He traveled deeper in, deeper than he usually did, ears perked at all the sounds, he wasn't alone, but the animals that lived here wouldn't bother him, so he was content. Funny, he thought, they knew him to be a danger without question, no matter his color, no matter, they just ran the other direction, but for some of the stupider monkeys that hooted at him from heights he wouldn't bother climbing to chase them. As he went things quieted all around him, he went until he couldn't see anything but trees all around, he knew he was far from the priest's dens too, because the air here wasn't as moist as it was near the area where the hot springs billowed steam. Stopping Xi let out a contented sigh and stretched against a tree, scrapping it with his claws, and then he lay down. This was, kinda nice.

Yaretzi looked down with interest at the white lion below her. She couldn't help bur smile down at him, and was also slightly disappointed that he couldn't pick up her scent. She frowned slightly as she watched him settle down and relax. That wasn't a very smart move, she wondered slightly if he knew that or no... The frown on her face disappeared, only to be replaced by a sly smile. "Watch where you lay child!" She let out before jumping out of the tree a child-like laugh escaping from her mouth.

That voice! Xi had about two seconds to try and locate its source and react, that wasn't quite enough time and he looked up last, he still has a lot to learn, defending himself in the jungle was now one of those things. He backed his ears and glared at her, backing from the spot where he thought she would land, "You must be brave, crazy, or both. You know you're deep in our lands here, don't you?" He growled out, his calm mood swiftly shifting to one of annoyance.

Yaretzi landed with a thud but still attempted to make it look as graceful as possible, as soon as her two front paws hit the ground she went into a slight trot and moved in a slight half circle. "Brave sounds better." She said lightly to herself. "Although I am a little happy with the fact that you could react so fast. She sat down, licking at her front paw and rubbing it against her ear slightly as if it didn't really matter that he was there. "Yes by the way, I do Know that I'm in your lands, I'm still trying to decide if I want to join the pride or not."

"Or stupid," Xi muttered, he had to back up further and was almost landed on anyway, then he sat again, his claws flexed against the warm moist dirt. "I should teach you a lesson on boundaries. I told you I don't trust you, what are you doing this far in, if you have yet to decide?" His fur all stood on end and he narrowed his eyes, did she know how close she was to the dens, or was she really just lingering in indecision...

Yaretzi regarded him for a moment without a real expression on her face, she looked around her as if she really didn't know where she was. "actually..." She stood up, as if she were debating whether to move or not, her feet moved slightly in anticipation. "Um... hm.... How far into the boundaries am I? And what's gonna happen if anyone else finds me here?" Her body language didn't give off the feel that she was worried, or even anxious, but her eyes, they were slightly wider, making her markings move a little.

"Far enough." Was his short response, he frowned slightly, she wasn't worried about him at all was she... all questions of, how she got here, what she was doing and when she was going left his head, Xi had only ever attacked first with his brother, this time it was in defense of his lands. He lept at her, snarling, moving to strike at her with claws out, he didn't want to kill her, he wasn't as vicious as that, but he felt he was doing what he should.

Yaretzi was caught off guard as Xi attacked her, she let out a yowl and moved back swiping roughly at him. She flinched and hissed as she felt him slash across her shoulder. She felt it give slightly and she cursed herself, damning the fact that she'd let such a simple blow as that make her front leg give slightly. She turned around quickly snarling at him. "Bad move child."

He snorted and watched her move, her swipe was easy to dodge, but he had been ready for retaliation, he was confident now that he has her attention, if nothing else. "What are you really doing here? Tell me the truth, I'll give you that chance. Don't make me regret it... I want to see your demon, prove its inside you and I'll take you to see the the kings. Com'on~" He put his head low and circled wide.

Yaretzi sneered at the child in front of her, he hadn't cut her deeply, the blood in her shoulder was already stopping, but it stung, and that made her incredibly pissed. She watched him as he circled her, never letting him leave her direct line of vision. She stared at this child before her, how dare he attack her, how dare he question her, how dare he demand to witness something as personal as her hatred, her shame, her Demon. She felt a vicious snarl rip from her throat and she blacked out, only slightly aware of the fact that she was now chuckling. "Don't ask to witness something that is greater than yourself you brat."

Xiang laughed humorlessly, "I won't take it back. What's said is said, so bring it on, I wanna see your worst!" He continued to circle, ready, not showing his back to her once, ears back against this skull, his lips pulled back from his fangs in a dangerous grin, he was an experienced fighter for his age, so he thought, thanks to his brother, thanks to his pride, now all that bubbled up, this was as close as Xi came to smiling.

She didn't let him finish his sentence. That wasn't the way she acted, if she let him finish his statement, he'd be able to focus fully on her again. She lunged, claws extended, arms outreached but close enough together to prevent him from batting at her face. 'what's said is said?' Yaretzi repeated to herself, watching as if through a blurred screen as she attacked Xi. She felt her paws connect with his side, and felt her back to legs push as if to throw him over. She felt her mouth open up as if to ask if he was alright, but instead all that came out was a feral cat cry. She cringed back, the bad things in her was loose, she just hoped it didn't kill Xi, he was after all just a child.

Though speaking he was still focused, her lunge brought her close, her claws cut his side, but he twisted away, not letting her take him down, he knew she'd have the upper hand that way. His muscles were tensed, legs coiled as he danced around her, he roared back, caught up in the moment, letting her lead, to see what she'd do.

She lunged forward again, there were trees all around them, and the demon in her decided to push him into one if she could, she'd pin him and rip his throat out that way. The roar took her by surprise, it was more dominant and intense then what she'd ever would have thought such a runt would be capable of. Her back raised slightly and her front lowered, but she was still making her attacks, still striking out, the mores she missed, the angrier she became.

The angrier she became the more Xiang was able to watch and catch her movements, she was no larger than he was and so her size wasn't something she'd be able to over power him with, but if this was her demon out to play, Xi grinned, he was confident that his own was an easy match against it. He had been struck by a few of her swipes and struck back, all were so far superficial attacks, nothing too deep, nothing too vicious and Xi laughed, he'd been attacked by 'better' demons in his youth than in facing Yare here. His only disadvantage was his lack of knowledge in fighting in the trees, he wouldn't be backed into a corner, but he was used to having more room to maneuver, more open spaces than this.

He dodged around a tree, stepping backwards, letting her advance and watching for an opening.

As he dodged around the tree, Yaretzi saw her opening, she'd always been fast, it was necessary when you were a rogue lioness, and hunting was one of the things that kept you alive. If you couldn't catch your food, you would have to go with out, and if you went with out for too long, you would starve. So as he darted one way, she darted the other way, lunging at him with out-stretched claws.

Xiang roared as her claws cut into him again, she had speed that he couldn't match, even in the trees, he rolled to dodge her, so that she could not pin him, but now he was bleeding, what she did next would call the fight for Xi, proof to him one way or the other. Breathing heavy he glared at her as if daring her to advance on him again, inside a deep chuckle rang in his mind, somehow Xiang was enjoying this fight, but hadn't he learned to enjoy the many fights over the months, maybe.

Yaretzi gained control over herself as she sliced into him... it was a deeper cut then what she had wanted to administer from the first place. As Xi glared at her, she smiled innocently and sat down, cleaning her claw of the blood and dirt that had become stuck there, before it could matte in her fur. When she was satisfied with the cleanliness of one paw she looked at Xi again, fully, sneering at him slightly. "And that is what happens when you go picking fights with strangers, it's an incredibly asinine idea, I've met hyena's that know better." She shook her head as if mocking him. "So, are you going to stop this childish behavior? Or shall I continue to belittle you?"

"With just this? I've had worse you know, it's not even bleeding much..." He kept his eyes on her, but turned his head to lap at the wound, it had only trickled a little, nothing that would seep from him and into the moist earth. After a swipe or two from his tongue, he turned his head back to fully place his attention on her with a scoff-like laugh at her words. "Answer me this; Why did you not continue on the attack. You changed."

She stared at him for a moment, her eyebrows raised. "Why did I change? simple, I have control over my inner demons. They don't instigate me into an attack, I make that decision on my own thank you." She stretched out, once more the lazy look on her face and displayed through her body movements like before. "And you know, you started bleeding. Blood attracts other animals, I don't need anyone else to bother me while I'm trying to figure out where I'm going. You're an annoyance enough as it is." She rolled her eyes and continued watching him.

Demons, it was always plural with this lioness, he mocked the word back to her, no voice, just moving his lips and nodded then he tilted his head to one side, trying to puzzle her out. He was not yet sure if she was serious or not, she might be just crazy. At her next comment he let out a sigh and rolled his eyes, dramatically, then looked around in a very pointed fashion. "I think, I've had just about enough of you. Firstly, it's hardly bleeding. Second, I'm a demon, standing in the Aikanaro'hini lands, I'm not worried about 'other animals'. Lastly, if you need some 'help' figuring out where you're going, how about this, I'll lead you in, right to the Aran'shales' doorstep. But you won't talk down to -him- if you want to live long."

Yaretzi chuckled at Xi, shaking her head actually laughing a little bit now. "You really do think I'm stupid don't you?" She rolled her eyes and shook her head lifting herself up in a 'I can't beleive I'm going through all this effort' sort of a way. She stared at him, pointedly. "We've already been through this, you've already harassed me, already told me this is the scary pride lands of the demons. What, did you think I just sort walked away with my tail tucked between my back legs, like some sort of cub or wild dog? No! I have already gone to speak with a pride leader, and I have already been accepted into this pride. Do you honestly think, anyone, in their right mind, would spend more time then they need to in a pride full of deranged lions? I think not."

She shook her head hoping that he really didn't think she was THAT dull. "Oh, so, congratulations on attacking a fellow pride member unprovoked. ESPECIALLY, one of higher rank than you... Child."

She quickly changed her mood and smiled at him. "But I won't tell if you don't~" She sang songed to him. Smiling and thinking of a rather childish lion that had impacted her life before coming here, making her more playful, and not so with drawn. She looked at this child, and saw herself at his age. She didn't much like that... "My names Yaretzi, not that you'd care of course." She said, a more sober look on her face now.

No, just crazy~ The words almost slid past his lips again, he was so completely annoyed with this lioness, he hoped that the Aean'shale that sized her up was in a foul mood. He managed to listen to her ramblings without snapping back at her, the information catching him off-guard and cementing its self into his brain, this lioness was the deranged one, he wondered if she counted herself among that lot or not. "We are not all 'deranged' here-" he began, though he knew that some of the pride were clearly not always in control of their bodies, that was different though, the demon and the mind didn't always mesh coherently, clearly.

"What!?" Xiang was flabbergasted that she'd even suggest such a thing! "I don't believe you." He narrowed his eyes, all the more reason not to trust her, if it was true, Xi regretted his actions, but if she were lying to him, he'd surely attack her again. "Prove it."

Again Xi was thrown by her changing mood, "..." what was her game, what did she want? Why had she taken this interest with him, if she was a pride member, shouldn't she just treat him like most of the others did, her eyes, he watched them, the color was new to him, not the fiery orange color he'd come to recognize among the more liked members he knew, but deep green, just like the jungles that surrounded them now. "My mother named me Xiang," he stated, ignoring the 'not that you'd care' comment. There wasn't much he did care about, so why did she?

Yaretzi smiled and rolled her eyes, "That's not how the stories goes~" She said, flipping her tail back and forth as she stood and looked at him. He was strange for a lion of this. "The lions in this pride are supposed to be pretty deranged, crazy~ Dangerous." She hissed out at him. Still playfully, still with an unamused look on her face. "though for some reason, you don't quite match up to the horror stories~"

She sat down smiling at him now, and tilted her head, her tail still swishing back and forth. "you don't beleive me?" She said, losing her smile, stopping the swishing of her tail, looking at him seriously. "I came out in the Savannah, I could almost taste the jungle, but I chose against it. Becuase I make my own luck."

She smiled at him again now, but a small sort of smile, a satisfied sort of smile. "Xiang~" She repeated, "What your mother named you hmm? And what would you have wished to be named? No nick names?" She wondered if his pride was suffering, having to suddenly treat her with respect, after he'd attempted to fight her.

"We are demons, our state of mind has little to do with that! If you really are a member already, you'll see that when you get to know more of the members personally. 'Deranged' and 'demon' are not always synonymous. Dangerous, I won't argue with," He nearly grinned, showing his fangs, but Xi never really smiled. "My story is just beginning, keep your ears and eyes open, Yaretzi." He snapped his teeth on the last syllable of her name. "Maybe it will become something more scary in the coming seasons."

When she spoke again Xiang narrowed his eyes, trying to judge if what she had said was truth or not, the name quest was, as far as he knew, something that wouldn't be thoroughly spoken about outside of the pride, probably, he didn't know for sure, having been born within the seers' dens and never traveling far beyond the borders himself, as others such as the Neumar had. "Or perhaps your 'demons' are content in mediocrity?" He laughed, and it was a cold sound, much like the one that had echoed in his head, now spilling out, mocking her 'choice'.

His expression returned to that look of indifference that masked anything he was feeling, he was still wary of her, trying to understand her interest, her smile, not cruel nor mocking. The simple feeling of the conversation, "Nothing more that what she saw fit to give me, until the day comes that I learn my true name." It was much to ordinary and strange to him, almost awkward to be speaking about such things together with her.
PostPosted: Thu Sep 03, 2009 10:42 am

"I doubt it~" She sang out to him, smiling in a mocking sort of way now. "I've met you already~ and you act like a child, easy to anger, easy to fight. It's a shame really. Patience, after all, is a virtue." she shrugged, knowing that at least she'd always known that and finding a sort of comfort in it at least. Yaretzi raised an eyebrow when he snapped his teeth at her, if she were younger, or if her demon were prowling, she would have most likely slapped a paw at his face, with the intention of leaving a scar.

Her demon flared when he talked down to her like that, when he questioned her demon. Sonneillon stared at him through her eyes, rising to the surface fast. The one thing her Demon would NEVER tolerate was some one talking down to them, ESPECIALLY a lowly child like the one in front of her. A snarl ripped through her body and Yaretzi could feel Sonneillon pulling forward almost lunging, before Yaretzi ripped her head back, throwing her in another direction altogether.

her whole body tensed as her other personality fought her for dominance. let me teach him a lesson he'll never forget, let me CARVE it into his carcass, let him look me in the eye and have him still acknowledge that I settle for mediocrity! Yaretzi could feel her fangs bared, could feel the growl still coming from her throat, eminating from a place that didn't belong to her.

She shook her head, both mentally and physically, locking her demon away for the time being. She didn't like losing control like that, her demon didn't fight fair. That was why she'd come here, so much harder to kill a lion when they're on the same grounds as you are.

She still had a look of snarling, a look of disgust, a look of hatred. It was her own now, but not at the young lion before her, at her self rather. "Neither my Demon nor myself choose Mediocrity. We choose to make our own way in life, we've never had anything, ANYTHING, handed to us in this world and that's the way we would like to keep to it. Why the hell would we let some good omen shape the way we treat the world." She wasn't playful anymore, as her shoulders slumped, it had taken a lot of energy out of her to have that inner battle. She was even panting with the effort it had taken her. She could feel her demon's discontent, and it almost felt like her own for having to share this body.

"A little lesson for you child, my Demon, is known for her hatred. Talk down to her and you will get her jaws rather than my words."

A low growl escaped at her flippant dismissal of his future and he narrowed his golden eyes, letting it fall audible from his lips, not a threat in and of its self, more a show of the disagreement he felt, the annoyance and anger she brought to front within him. "And wrath is a vice," he kept his ears back, flat against his skull but his fur and mane ruffled. Xiang had never really had rage issues, well not counting the rage and hate poured upon his person by his older brother Hiam, he'd never really had a hard time keeping his own anger in check. Xi didn't hate the world, nor his pale pelt, nor the members of his pride that viewed it and him as something less, something weak, but he also didn't agree with them. He didn't conform to the teaching that said pale equaled weak, that was the reason he did not submit to his brother, nor anyone that would not expect very much from him. His demon burned him inside, his vice was his pride.

"You think just because I live among deranged, crazy, dangerous lions, that I haven't learned about morality." He laughed low, it wasn't a question. He wondered again what she was doing here, why she had come to this pride at all.

Xiang didn't shift or retreat when the demon rushed to the surface, he saw it there, burning in her eyes though and his previous disbelief left him, he watched her carefully as she slammed it back, visibly keeping her demon from lashing out at him, inside he was disappointed, but he kept his expression carefully neutral in light of the fit she seemed to be having. He had wanted a fight, or maybe it was his own demon, silent but there always, burning at him, deep inside, without words it was a presence that he knew and did not question nor hold back, but so far, in his life, his demon had yet to act.

Xi watched Yaretzi, and the play of emotion and expression on her face, his own eyes smiled, the rest of his face blank, he waited silent for her to act or speak. When she did, he was silent and still, rolling the words and assumptions she had all but spat at him, around for his thoughts to digest. When he spoke it was without anger or contempt, two emotions that this lioness and demon embodied as she was before him and as she treated him, but he spoke calmly as if he was giving a lesson, perhaps, or as if he was repeating one learned back.

"The name quest is very important to our pride, our true name, our demon's name hold great power and is a mark of adulthood," Xiang sat up just a little straighter, "and, as you seem to thoroughly enjoy pointing out, I am not yet an adult. I have not been inside that cave and I know little about it. I'd like to keep it that way until the day I set foot inside myself. From what I have learned, there are three exits from which you can emerge, in the end, after you have become an adult and know your demon intimately." He stood and gestured around at the moist, close, dense, green surroundings with one paw, "To exit into the jungle is a mark of grand fortune," here he smirked, and settled his paw again, his eyes still on her. "I hate this area myself, its has nothing within it that I enjoy or want." Xiang continued on with his words, if she'd been told all this before her own quest, he would still continue with his point, "The desert, an omen of ill luck," he nodded once and shrugged, as if he did not care. "and the savannah, neutral. The savannah, where the prey live, where we hunt, and rest, where we defend and where we fight, where everything important and unimportant that will happen in our lives plays out. And it means nothing. Mediocrity. And you choose it. You said so yourself. Here's the way I see it. Omens are just that, omens. You can say that you chose it, but I think it chose you. Your demon chose you and your omen, your exit, your 'luck' chose you. Life happens to you. My demon isn't known for anything -yet- and that fills me with discontent." Here he looked distant, and his voice grew soft. "I still await that day, and it will come. It will come and then, and then we shall see."
PostPosted: Sat Sep 26, 2009 10:12 am

Yaretzi shook her head as she listened to him talk to her. "Just because you go through a task that allows OTHERS to view you as an adult, doesn't mean that you are truly an adult. It's more than spending a few days in blistering heat, with out food, or water, and little light, that makes you one." She shook her head, suddenly needing to lay down, feeling as if all the strength had suddenly been zapped from her. "And as far as Omens go, if I were to beleive that, then wouldn't the fact that I had the scent of the jungle calling me towards one particular exit, wouldn't that have been my omen? Wouldn't that have been the thing to choose me?" She layed down, suddenly exhausted, happy to know that she was at least in the shade. "You shouldn't let your demon shape who you are. You and it, are two separate identities. Just becuase it may be strong, doesn't mean that you shouldn't strive to be stronger."

"You can -say- all you like that you had the scent of the jungle in your nose," Xi raised his voice an octave to mock her tone, "but you've lied to me before, I don't believe you, you've done nothing so far that has raised you to a place where I care what you think or say. If you exited to the Savannah, that is fact, unless you are lying again, or change your story, or whatever else... Yes, I agree that the name quest doesn't -make- one an adult, clearly you still have some maturing, some issues of your own to work out. Age is just days, sun sets and rises on and on and makes you older. I'm not claiming anything other that what I am. I am strong and I don't need to prove it to you."
PostPosted: Mon Nov 02, 2009 9:55 pm

Yaretzi turned her head to the side and looked up at him, a bit of an unreadable face, but... at the same time, the expression could be taken as many things, disappointment, frustration, sadness, amusement. "Have I lied to you?" She asked, a genuine tone to her voice. "To be honest, I can't remember if I have or not. What do you think has been a lie?" She rolled to her side lazily and began to clean at her paw. "Tell me~ What in your personal opinion, makes you strong?"

"Don't mock me." Xi snarled, annoyed beyond reason at this female, "My beliefs are my own and I don't feel like sharing. You don't care, and I don't want to hear it if you want to pretend that you do." He looked down at her with contempt, she was constantly mocking him, the way she lay there now, lazily cleaning her paws as if they were just having a pleasant chat! "I'm done here."
PostPosted: Mon Nov 02, 2009 10:20 pm

Yaretzi lifted her head when he said that, a shocked sort of look on her face, she raised her self to her paws in a flash and was along side of him, cutting him off and turning her head and body to him, blocking his path in a non-threatening sort of a way. "I wasn't mocking you. I've been watching you Xion." She told him honestly, her head lowered in a submissive sort of way, but not the rest of her body. She just wanted him to know she wasn't looking for a fight. "I see how the others treat you. I just, thought it would be nice to talk with you, that's all. Just because no one else has wanted to hear what you've had to say for the most part, doesn't mean that I don't want to. I look around at all of those other lions in the pride, and all I hear from my Demon, for the most part, is weaklings. She and I have the same view on a person, when it comes to the very important things. What really matters, is the eyes. And your eyes... As I've already said. Are filled with much to much maturity, and hatred for my liking." She sighed and moved out of his way, a slightly defeated demeanor to her body. " You don't have to beleive me of course, but do keep in mind~ I cut our fight short. and most definitely not becuase I pity you, but becuase I would like you to not see me as an enemy."

Xiang hadn't yet moved, so there was no path to block, besides there were many, many paths in the trees, but he stayed to let her have her say. "Xiang." He snarled, correcting her, his hackles raising again, nothing she said moved him, he didn't trust any of it for a second. "You and your demon are wrong. This pride is strength, if you're just going to look down your nose at us, why are you even here. I don't see you as an enemy, I don't see you as anything. You can keep all your talks and lies and your games, I don't want anything to do with you or them."

Xi wouldn't admit it, not to her, not out loud, but he had his own beliefs about eyes, as different as hers were, so far they meant nothing to him, they never met his for long anyway.
PostPosted: Mon Nov 02, 2009 10:57 pm

She nodded, sitting down, not really having much to say anymore... not sure what to say. "Xiang. my apologies." She wasn't sure why... but she suddenly felt defeated. She looked at him, and for once, she wasn't being snide, or making some sort of a remark. She simply looked at him, a sad sort of smile on her face. "I'm afraid I might end up pitying you Xiang." She said honestly as she stood, turning from him to leave, her whole body sagging. "I came to this pride~" She continued as she began to walk away. "Because I believe it's a safer pack, with lions that can handle my demon. Not becuase I beleive in everything your pride does, most of it I think is ridiculous, but becuase I'm afraid one day, my demon will go berserk and kill everything close to her." She sighed as she curled her way around a tree, mumbling to herself. "You all seem the best to deal with that."

"If that day comes, you'll be killed." Xiang called after her, wondering if she even cared. "You can try and kill us, but you'll be the one to die. Doesn't seem worth it."
He was being snarky, but he didn't want her pity, and he didn't want to be a part of her self pity party either, this wasn't the lioness that he's met, she was being pathetic.

"You're a foolish lioness, Yaretzi!" He roared after her when she's turned away, that posture didn't bring feelings of compassion to him, only the urge to shove her further into the ground, he had always been down trodden by the pride, by his brother, he'd had it rough, his mother loved him, but she was always always busy, so as it was he'd raised himself so far, if he was hot headed, or a brat at times, who was to blame. He could deal with her sneering swagger, but pity wasn't in his vocabulary. She'd always been confusing, hadn't she, maybe she was still playing with him? "Foolish and weak!"
