Or yesterday as the case may be, I made myself a new belt. I bought a shitty belt for a buck at Goodwill, cut the buckle out, and made a new belt on the buckle... out of 45' of 550 paracord. So in under two minutes, I can disassemble my belt into a nickel-plated buckle and one forty-five foot strand of 550 paracord. Is this win?

Next up: bracelet. Same idea, but only eight feet long. I just need a buckle that's the right shape first. It's essentially this, except I can make it myself in fifteen minutes for the cost of materials, and in my choice of color. Seriously, the knotting is easy and self-sizing... it's like a modified square knot, repeated. The hard part is the initial sizing of the item as a whole.

Also at Goodwill, I decided to check for expensive tactical pants and came up with a gem: a near-new pair of 5.11 covert khakis in my size, for $7.

That is pretty win. I should try that sometime.

It's kind of a flattened oval. It's not really all that thick.

In other news, I figured out the King Cobra stitch. Meaning that what WAS 45 feet of paracord can now be 90 feet. ******** yeah.

Also, Goodwill part 2: Today I found a London Fog trenchcoat complete with liner for $10. I ******** love Goodwill. Will post pix with brown fedora shortly.

If I may ask, what makes paracord so special compared to other lines?

It's 1/8 inch thick and has a 550lb test. It's also pretty much weatherproof. After a year in the sun, cotton rots and polyester fries, but paracord is still good as new. I just made a bracelet out of paracord that's been in direct AZ sunlight for most of a year, and other than green discoloration from the brass grommets it's in perfect condition.

Also, as promised,

My dad has something similar to a 27, but I forget what brand it is. It's locked up tight though so I doubt I'll ever have a chance to pose with it.

Thanks for the info. I've been wondering for some time now.

I'm jealous! I've found several great things it my local Goodwill, best being a gray pinstripe suit that fits me almost perfectly for $15. I always hope to find a nice trench coat that fits there, but still no luck. That's a snazzy coat, but I'm looking for the classic double-breasted knee-length belted model.

I was hanging out with a friend the other day, and he has a near-identical London Fog coat (fur liner where mine is quilted, but no epaulets) that he got at the local Habitat for Humanity store for $10. xd
