I can't figure out how to get them out of the game once I've taken them? Please help.

This depends slightly on if you have expansion packs installed or just the base game.
In just the base game you can find all of your pictures in; My Documents>EA Games>The Sims 2>Storytelling
If you have expansions then you will find them here; My Documents>EA Games>The Sims 2>Neighborhoods>N00X>Storytelling
N00X represents the number of the neighbourhood the pictures were taken in. So if you took the pictures in Pleasantview then this will be N001. A custom 'hood will have it's own number after the N.
A lot of players also don't use the in-game camera and instead use the Print Screen button on their keyboard and then paste the contents to a photo editing program or Paint.
This question also belongs in the Q&A section where I will move it to now.
Protip: It'd probably just be a lot easier to hit the printscreen button and copy the picture into paint, so it'll go straight to your pictures folder. 3nodding
