Jinan slowly trotted through the soft dirt, glancing up at the trees as she passed under them. She was happy today, albeit a little lonely, but happy at the same time. She loved her family, loved her pride, and couldn't be happier. She only wished she had someone to play with on this sunny day. Her sister was off doing other things, and she hadn't met any of the other cubs in the pride.
She spotted a tree she that she liked more than the others, and quickly ran up to it, circling around it a few times before settling in at its base. "Hmm...." She hummed softly to herself, closing her brown eyes. She dreamed of little birds swerving around her, and flowers springing up from the ground like magic.

Shahla has been enjoying the day thus far, it had been cooler than usual with a slight breeze, and her little walk about the pride had been one filled with many new discoveries. All there was left was to go and see the trees and make a light scratch on one. One of the things she was told was absolutely amazing to do. Although, wouldn’t it hurt the trees? She cocked her head at the thought but quickly set it free as she caught sight of a line of them. Not too far from the den and not too close to be bothered. She wanted to see the pride for herself for once. Even if it was still fairly close to the den, it would be her discoveries to behold, not her and another’s.
Nearing the line of trees she noticed a rather old, gnarled looking one sitting off to the right of most. That would be her tree, the tree that she would mark as her favorite. She would of course share it with any of the boys, but it would still be her favorite little tree. She like that thought, even if it was absurd.
Rushing towards it her face cracked into a smile, she could have a favorite something after all. Or at least... she thought she could. Nearing the base of the now officially dubbed favorite tree, she noticed a small cub lying at its base. Was this already someone else’s favorite tree? The little black cub stared at what she assumed to be a ‘her’ , confused as to what she might be, and why she was there.
“Is this tree your favorite too?”

"Hm?" Jinan's tail swished on the ground behind her, twacking against the base of the tree she lay next to. Her ears were filled with the small sound of another cub's voice- it sounded like a little girl cub like her, so she felt more at ease with herself. Just the thought of it being a girl made her muscles ease, and she let her brown eyes slide open gently. They blinked a few times, then swerved over to where the dark cub stood, looking a bit confused.
"I do like this tree a lot." She looked up at it, lightly rubbing her nose on its bark. "But it's your favorite?" Jinan found it quite charming that another cub could find a favorite tree in the world.

Shahla smiled at the little girl, she seemed rather peaceful, and somewhat of a day dreamer as well. Watching as the strange new girl rubbed her nose against the bark of the tree she couldn't help but giggle. "Well, it is different, and I liked that, but I can share it if you would like." She padded over towards the other girl and sat down next to her, mimicking what Jinan had done."Sure feels funny on your nose, huh?" Her dark blue eyes glanced over towards her company, sticking her tongue out slightly towards her. Maybe she could befriend her. All she had now were her siblings to play with, and they could get tiring at times.
"My name is Shahla. What's yours?" Her paws kneaded the tree bark lightly, allowing her to not only stretch her front legs, but to get comfortable, her eyes watching her knead the bark for a couple seconds before her eyes shifted towards Jinan again, waiting for her reply. Who was this little girl, and why did she look so different from the rest of the lions?

"We can?" Jinan's eyes lit up as she heard the news. It was amazing how sharing could bring two creatures together. "So it'll be ours." She nuzzled the tree once more, happy for the new bond the two young females now shared. "It does feel kinda different, but sometimes different is good." She gazed up at the branches, a dark cloud lingering over her mind as she said it. She only hoped that her difference would make her special to someone, and not bring her down in her home.
"I'm Jinan." She bounced a little as she said it; it was a gift from her parents, her name, and it made her ecstatic every time she heard it. She watched carefully as Shahla kneaded the bark, not quite understanding the action. She placed a paw on the tree, but couldn't bring herself to do the same as the other cub. "Do you get hot easily?" Jinan couldn't help but notice the other cub's dark coat, and added it to the fact that she was huddling under the tree next to her. Upon further examination, Jinan found that she was entranced in the dark patterns of Shahla's pelt.

Shahla looked at her and gave a nod, smiling brightly at her. It was always good to make friends with others, to be a good banu you had to know how to be peaceful to everyone, even those that she did not like, but to find someone that Shahla didn’t like was a very hard task to try and grapple. Continuing to listen to her newly found friend she smile slowly turned to a frown, she sounded sad when she said that, and it did occur to her that this female was a little strange, but it wasn’t bad. Piping up Shahla said with a smile, "Different is always good, you are remembered for your uniqueness instead of just being a follower. You are a rose, instead of a dandelion.” She meant that, no one she try and be someone else but aspire to be the best they can be.
“Oh, Jinan! I love your name!” She had noticed her bounce happily at the name and thought it the most adorable thing in the world. She certainly did seem like someone that tended to think positively, which made her all the more excited about the idea of them become friends.
Ears flicked towards Jinan at the question, she did most certainly get hot, she couldn’t even bear to be outside when the sun was at its peak due to the fact that her fur loved to lock in any heat the sun decided to throw at it. “Uh-huh…. I get very hot and normally have to take to shade or water when the sun is at its peak. It really saps the energy right out of me.” Her tail flicked lightly, watching her company study her fur and markings, doing the same to her. It was beautiful, like daybreak in the mountains, or at least, she thought they were mountains.

"Th-thank you." Jinan dipped her head at the compliment. She had never thought herself too special, especially when she looked at the adult banus of the pride. They were all so beautiful to Jinan, and she only hoped that she'd be the same way someday.
Refocusing on her companion, Jinan nodded her head a bit, eyeing the fur of the other cub. "You really do have a pretty pelt, even if it is hot to be in." She loved how the dark colors made the bright ones stand out even more. Such was the price to pay for beauty, hm? "I'm glad you're out here with me, though. I hope the sun doesn't get too bright." Jinan considered herself lucky that this cub had decided to come outside in the heat today, even thinking it fate that the two had met. There was nothing Jinan wanted more than a good friend. "Shahla, what do cubs do when they're outside together?" She had watched other cubs play, but never did she experience it herself.
