Aali was basking in the sunlight outside of the den, his eyes were half closed and he smiled as he sprawled with a contented mumble. His ears flickered happily at the sound of his cubs playing within, the sounds of the pride, of families. Ah family, how he adored his own and seeing all the cubs interacting made his heart warm.

Still, it wasn't all play for even as they grew they absorbed the careful lessons that the adults had to set out for them. Some were outright, Banu's being taught how to behave, others were playful like hunting practice and games to sharpen skills, and still others were even more subtle, hidden within a story the lessons and morals of the pride. Yes, it was his job, the prides job to teach their youth and create a proper generation to follow them.

One black tipped ear flicked and he smiled as he leaned his head back sensing one of his cubs nearby. Perhaps she wanted a little one on one time, something he tried to oblige as much as he could.

Shahla softly padded out of the den after a long as restful night cuddling between a brother and a few sisters. She had enough of the den now though and decided it would be nice to greet the sun again and thank it for coming out. Nearing the entrance of the den though she stopped dead in her tracks, staring at the large figure she has come to know and love as her father.

Pausing for a moment she chewed her lip before summoning the courage to move towards her father who seemed to be enjoying himself. It was kind of funny actually, the way he sprawled himself out turtle in the sunlight. “Papa seems to be enjoying himself.” She chirped lightly padding up beside him and sitting down, cuddling into his fluffy self.

"What are you thinking about?" She questioned, looking out towards the pridelands. It was beautiful, her pride. Everyone seemed so happy and friendly. Well mostly everyone anyway. Her thoughts drifted back to the boy she had met recently, Harb. He didn't seem to happy, and she couldn't figure out why either. Huffing a sigh at the thought of him she looked back up at her father, smiling up at him as she waited for a reply.

Aali smiled softly as he felt his youngest snuggle against him, he grinned and pulled her close with his paw to nuzzle her lovingly. Some males might have felt smothered if they had to give attention to so many cubs, but Aali just felt blessed. He smiled and gazed out to share the view of the pride with his daughter.

"I was just thinking that I'm the luckiest father in the world to have such beautiful daughters." He nuzzled her and smile before looking at her curious of the sigh. "And what's on your mind my little Shahla?"

Shahla smiled as her father nuzzled her lovingly. She absolutely loved the attention he gave her, because she knew he was busy and was still finding time for her along with so many other brothers and sisters. “You most certainly are one of the luckiest fathers! Everyone loves you very much, Papa!” She smiled broadly at him before looking down towards the pride again. Only to shudder at the next part.

Looking up at him, she had hoped he wouldn’t have taken notice of the sigh she had let go! Flicking her dark tail lightly as she scolded herself mentally for allowing him to see her displeasure she rolled in her thoughts before deciding it would be best to talk to her father about it. Maybe he could help, if only a little.

“I met another Pesar Papa, his name is Harb. He had tripped over me because I hadn’t noticed him but we did have some friendly chatter…”
She chewed at her cheek for a moment before continuing. ‘So I decided to have him watch the sunset near the gnarled tree…. He told me there was no magic in the sunrise and it wasn’t something to celebrate. As if… he didn’t enjoy his life very much either.”

Her ears were plastered to her head as she spoke. She should have been able to help him more than she had. Yet she didn’t, she just made everything worse. “I feel like I didn’t fulfill my duty and a Banu Papa, because I couldn’t make him happy.”

Her eyes were now glued to the dirt, too ashamed to look up at her father whom she looked up to most. Her father who she wish nothing more than to make him proud of her. Rubbing one of her paws into the ground lightly she looked up at him.

"He seemed so upset... and I couldn't help at all."

Aali smiled and nuzzled his daughter happily licking her cheek as he felt his chest warm with pride. Yet as she shuddered he frowned and looked down at her worried. He relaxed when she started off by telling him she had met a pesar, it was good for the youth of the pride to interact.

He frowned as she continued however, Harb was one of Vu's boys, he wondered what had the young pesar so sad. Still at the moment reassuring his own daughter was more important. He gently placed his paw beneath her chin to lift her gaze. "My sweet Shahla, you tried to help and that's what's important. A banu who sees where she's needed, who wants to comfort others. Harb is not your pad little one, when you have a pad of your own you will learn how to help him when he is sad, you cannot make things right for everyone all the time." He nuzzled her softly.

Shahla stared at her father as he spoke to her. He was right, she couldn’t always fix problems that everyone faced, and it would leave no time to fix problems for herself. How would she ever sharpen her own abilities if she was always trying to fix other lions problems? She needed to learn moderation and when to leave something be. That would be one of her goals in life.

“Thank you Papa, I will keep your words in my heart, so I never forget them.”
She smiled softly at him, snuggling into him. Her father always left her heart feeling warm and bright, and she knew she could always talk to him if there was a problem she couldn’t seem to understand or fix.

“Mmm… ” Her eyes glittered up at him. Maybe he would be willing to tell her a story today. She loved listening to them, each and every one. You could always learned something from them, and the deep boom of her father’s voice was always a great thing as well.

“Would you mind telling me a story?”

Aali smiled and nuzzled his daughter pulling her close and licking her cheek, she was so sweet so compassionate. He was so very proud of his daughter, of all his children. He grinned when she asked for a story and nodded. "Of course my little one, of course...lets see..."

He lifted his head for a moment deep in thought before smiling. "Aha! the Tale of the Lying Lion!"

He lowered his head and started his tale his voice rich and strong.

"Once upon a time there was a small pride, each evening they left a guard to watch their borders to ensure a roaming pack of dangerous hyenas did not attack them.

One evening the guard was feeling bored and lonely, he wanted his pride mates to come and keep him company. He lifted his head and roared out, "The Hyena's are coming! The Hyena's are coming!" and waited.

Quickly all the members of the pride rushed out to him "Where, where are they?" they cried out."

Aali looked at his daughter for a moment to see how she was enjoying the tale.
