Time was passing, the cubs were out of the den enjoying the day in the sun. Almost all his banu were busy supervising them or hunting, and today he intended to find one of his lovely banu in particular. Amaya was so soft and sweet she often blended right into the background of the hectic life of the large den. Not today though, he wanted to see her, to speak to her, he wanted to make sure she was doing well within the pride.

He wondered if she had been given the chance to cubsit or hunt, perhaps he could take her out for a lesson. He owed it to each of his cubs to spend time with them, but he owed the same to each of his banu. "Amaya?" He called curiously into the den as he stepped in and over a sleeping cub, that was getting to be a second habit move.

Amaya was in the back of the den cleaning herself. She had just spent the past two hours attempting a hunt...which really wasn't as much of a hunt as it was a 'sit quietly and let it come to you' thing. Either way, it had secured her a bird that was now somewhere close by. Her ears perked as she heard the sultan call her name.
Rising to her feet, Amaya walked over to greet him "Good evening, Aali." Amaya greeted with a soft smile.

"Good evening Amaya, I hoped you might like some company." He moved closer and smiled giving her a soft nudge with his nose. It was obvious that as far as looks went Amaya was probably the prettiest of his banu, which would have been lovely if he wanted to lay there and just stare at her, but he preferred to have a deeper bond with his banu. The truth was, he had been concerned at first by his lovely captives lack of skills, but in time the concern eased, she was eager to please and to learn and that was important.

"Have you been overrun by the cubs as well? I'm afraid I've rather neglected you with all the commotion." He smiled and shook his head, he certainly couldn't feel too badly though, having his den full of laughter and love meant more then anything to him.

"Company would be lovely." Hunting had left her alone much longer than she had ever been used to. She would much rather leave the hunting to those more adept at it than herself, but she felt she must make some effort. She knew she should. She was no mere pretty thing to look at anymore.

"The cubs," she smiled, "are a joy to be around. I feel no neglect, my Sultan. With them around, your presence is always near."

He sat down beside her and grinned happy to hear she too enjoyed the cubs, perhaps she had down her skill after all. "I'm glad you enjoy their company, I suppose cubsitting suits you better then hunting?" He chuckled and gave her a reassuring nuzzle.

"I think perhaps we should stick to your strengths and what you enjoy, the pride has many fine huntresses, but many of the mothers need help watching their cubs." He smiled at her, "would you enjoy that?"

"That sounds wonderful. I'm truly not much help out on the hunt...and the cubs do need looking after...especially when they get older, and more daring..." It would be a full time job, but one she felt she could at least accomplish more so than hunting.

Amaya already began thinking to herself how she would keep them entertained, what stories she might could tell, how to keep them out of trouble, and how to be polite and curious.
Yes, it would definitely be better than hunting.

Aali laughed and nodded "Oh yes I have a feeling there will be plenty of daring escapades, some of the other banu seem a little overwhelmed as well, perhaps you can pay a few visits and lend a little time."

He was pleased that Amaya was adjusting well, having a duty was important for any banu. He looked her over and smiled "You just get prettier all the time Amaya..." He chuckled softly "but I'm sure you know that." He settled down beside her happy to have some time to spare, perhaps he could find out more about her former life, though it sounded rather unhappy.

"Thank you. I try not to think on it too much myself. I don't want to become conceited,.."
Her beauty was both a blessing and a curse, she supposed. Often when she was in the charge of her former master she wondered if she'd ever be seen for anything else. But what else did she have? She had no skills. The most she'd ever learned was what she had from observing the other lionesses her former capture had, and the cubs that he would have them cubnap. So what virtue did she own?

"It's good to have modesty, but I at least want you to know that I don't compliment you needlessly. I'm glad your adjusting here, you seem to be...happier? I hope your happier, you have goals now, important tasks that fall to you." He smiled softly at her hopefully she understood by now that her value did not lay in her beauty alone.

"You have more talents then I had expected, and not the common skill for the hunt either. Theres something about you, your voice perhaps...something there, your very soothing." He gave a soft sigh and shook his head. "I'm rambling, but...it's something."

"I am," She smiled. "I am happy. Any world away from having to hear those anguished cries of the mother lionesses from which my former master stole from...is surely paradise. And a paradise in which I have found a place to belong..."
Eloquence - who would have thought a lioness raised to be silent would have such? At Aali's further compliments she felt warmth to her cheeks.

"Thank you..." she gave a warm laugh. "And by all means - ramble. Gods know I seem to be making up for my own time of silence..." She gave Aali a gentle nuzzle into his dark mane, truly appreciating the Sultan for being such a kind soul.

He chuckled then and offered her a soft nuzzle in return glad to know she was happy here, no doubt the joyful laughter of cubs was better then the anguished cries of mothers. Indeed there was an eloquence to her, perhaps that was a part of her skill. Storytelling was so important to the pride, their verbal history was so rich and long.

"I'm glad you're not so quiet anymore...I think...I think perhaps you would make an excellent storyteller. How is your memory?"

He tilted his head curiously, he was lucky to have a good memory, of course he needed it what with having to know all his prides Pads and their banu's and beybanu's, the stories of the pride, the names of cubs...yes he needed it.

"To this day I can still remember the name of each lioness and cub that I encountered, and the circumstance of their arrival." There was a bittersweet smile on her face.

A wonderful memory could be both a blessing and a pain. she'd hardly the chance to make many good memories, but she knew that she was well on her way. If she couldn't forget her past, she could at least learn from it.

Storytelling was not something that had come first to her mind when she tried to think of her talents. Though really, thinking about it she had been reciting her own life story all along to those who asked. It was so natural. Amaya supposed that everyone was a storyteller really, but when it comes to reciting second-hand historical facts, or knowledge passed down, that was probably another thing. YOu had to have a good memory...

He slowly moved closer trying to offer her some comfort with a soft nuzzle, some things one wished to forget, yet even those painful memories molded them. He could imagine how much he would loose of himself if he forgot his first capture, and the lesson that kajira taught him.

He drew himself from the past and smiled softly at Amaya "You should come and listen when I tell the cubs tales, I think your sweet voice could much improve them."

"Thank you, I will. after all, it is important that they be learnt and passed down, hn?" Amaya quirked her head to the side.

It'd show her what to expect, and maybe give her ideas for her own stories. Maybe she'd even learn some of the pride's history, and be able to insure that it gets passed down.
