"You might want to put,
Watashi wa _______ desu.
Or else it sounds kind of weird saying your name then desu. And the polite way to say it would be.
Konichiwa.
Hajimemashite.
Watashi wa Tasha desu.
so on and so forth. And at the end, I do this but I guess you dont have to, dozo yoroshiku."

A simpler version. For names

Watashi wa ____ desu.
☆Example: Watashi wa Niko desu.
❋Note: "Watashi" can be used by anyone. Also can be used to state your name, age, and other things. But for now stick with using it for your name.
✿Translates to: I am ____

Boku wa ____ desu.
☆Example: Boku was Niko desu.
❋Note: ONLY GUYS SHOULD USE THIS, IT'S WEIRD IF A GIRL USES IT.
✿Translates to: My (a guy/boy) name is _____

Namae wa ____ desu.
☆Example: Namai wa Niko desu.
❋Note: This can be used by anyone.
✿Translates to: My name is _____

Boku wa Niko desu.
Doozo yoroshiku

Also to ask for someone's name you can use
Namae wa non desu ka?

The thing is there's a certain time when you can use the top two. Watashi is a politer form for self-introductions, while boku is more casual...not exactly something you want to say to a native speaker..unless you plan to act arrogant.

hmm... there aren't any "l"s in Japanese though, right? so instead of "melissa" you write "merissa"?

Konnichiwa!
Hajimemashite.
Watashi wa Akariu desu.
O namae wa?

i'm wondering if you could say "anata desu ka?" for a more slang term, like "you are?"
